  1. I think it's fairly typical. So although the garage charges per hour, the costs of running a garage are largely fixed, staff have to be paid whether they are working or not, so the hourly charge will need to cover all of those costs, not just the 30-mins it might take for an oil change. The previous example of the mobile mechanic with a much lower charge rate works because his overheads will be much lower and I assume is a self-employed one man business.
  2. Personally I use a microfibre towel for the bodywork and a quick drive round the block will clear any excess water from elsewhere on the vehicle. I would have thought a dryer would be likely to leave water marks, especially if you live in a hard water area.
  3. Euro Car Parts - Pagid are usually decent quality. https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/pagid-brake-pad-101824538
  4. If that was a problem with the hybrid system I think we would see a lot less high mileage Prius minicabs.
  5. Plastics do age and generally become more brittle, I think the only potential warranty cover would be from the supplying dealer if that's where you sourced the vehicle from.
  6. Spot on, and most of the things they inspect are part of an MOT anyway, but this is the industry norm, nothing unique to Lexus.
  7. That's the top of the range solution with greatest peace of mind. At the other end of the scale if you are only doing 3-4k a year you could probably get away with a service every 2-years, the intermediate MOT should spot any major issues, but obviously less protection and peace of mind.
  8. The CarMats4U Platinum range are advertised as having a lifetime guarantee. I have a set for my RX and they are nice quality, thick and heavy duty.
  9. If you have the last service just before 10-years / 100k you get another full year / 10k miles, so effectively Relax is up to 11-years / 110k.
  10. In theory yes as the purpose of the spoiler is to create down-force for more grip when cornering, on the straight it will just increase drag and hence use more fuel (just like DRS in Formula 1), but how much difference in practice that makes who knows.
  11. I think's that a better approach, although the battery won't be nil (which would damage the battery) but at the minimum permitted charge level.
  12. Have you tried pressing the panoramic camera switch when parked up, the overhead view seems to impress most people. Also get rid of the power meter display and set that to permanently show rev counter mode, you can put the power meter in the head up display. Inbuilt sunshades for the rear windows are a nice feature.
  13. May put some buyers off (including dealers) when it comes to selling the vehicle.
  14. Check the condition of the CV rubber boots for holes, splits etc.
  15. Minor damage is likely to be within the policy excess (voluntary + compulsory) so effectively not covered, plus impact on no claims / future premiums etc.
  16. I'd suggest replacing the diff driveshaft oil seals as well and might as well change the diff oil too if that has not been done.
  17. The European sales figures at 26:24 are interesting. When I was young a Mercedes or BMW was a very rare sight on UK roads, now every other car is a Mercedes or BMW and a Ford or Vauxhall is a rare site.
  18. Other possibilities could be CV joints on the drive shaft or wheel bearing.
  19. I've not purchased a car from them, but their descriptions seem very thorough detailing every scratch / stone-chip, not seen that from any other dealer.
  20. I had a similar experience selling to Cazoo as well, I selected highest condition category (car was 13-years old), price quote paid without any quibbles.
  21. Not sure if they show on the map, but you should get a beep-beep alert as you approach one.
  22. Yes, clearly a government policy to drive older cars of the road, unless you make it SORN until it's 40-years old 🙂
  23. Good point because the definition is up to 10% and similarly up to 5% for E5, so may actually be less in practice and possibly 0% for some brands of E5 as previously stated. I would expect the ECU to make any adjustments immediately as it's monitoring for knock in real time and adjusting the timing accordingly each time a cylinder fires.
