  1. That certainly helps, along with the sophisticated OBD capability of modern cars. But many routine maintenance tasks such as changing spark plugs are way more complicated than in cars from 20-30 years ago.
  2. I wonder where you would stand if you had paid for a Lexus service which included a plug change, stuck plugs must be a fairly common issue given the lengthy service interval.
  3. I'd suggest trying penetrating fluid in the first instance.
  4. I think you are being the good Samaritan, but anyone who treats their car like that and would seem does no basic maintenance checks will probably not even notice all the effort you have gone to.
  5. Yeap, just what happens at the tyre depot even when they have taken the wheel off 😞 Pushing through with a broom handle or similar is what I do, wheel off obviously 🙂
  6. It's just one tank so every time you refill, the car will be running on a mix of the new fill and whatever was in the tank previously.
  7. Actually if you look at the Companies House register Lexus GB is a dormant company that ceased trading in 2009. https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/02484623/filing-history
  8. There have been a number of recent posts re poor quality service and maybe these are just isolated incidents, but Lexus does need to maintain high quality customer service as a key market differentiator. Poor quality customer service is a real detractor regardless of the quality of the vehicle.
  9. Maybe they used your car to facilitate another customer's delivery / collection.
  10. Personally I prefer the Bentley's, but neither is likely to be the selected vehicle for the UK PM, not least because of the public backlash that would cause. But it was good to see what must be 50/60 year old Rolls Royces in immaculate condition during the Queen's funeral, even the new royal Bentleys are now 20-years old, much more style and class than the Beast.
  11. Take over by BMW was in 1998, and even before then they were using BMW engines.
  12. It sounds like your interaction was with the service department and service manager, I would suggest escalating this to the dealership principle and then the Managing Director of the business concerned. You also need to be clear in what resolution you are seeking, rework, refund, apology or something else?
  13. I don't believe there have been any changes in the mechanics of the Gen 4 that would affect fuel economy, only updates to the infotainment, options, trim etc. I would expect the Gen 5 to have better fuel economy, but loss of a 6-cylinder engine is a significant backward step imho.
  14. If you have a local trusted specialist fine, my personal experience of independents is not great.
  15. My average over several thousand miles is around 36 mpg. I have averaged 40mpg when driving 500 miles in one day, never had less than around 32 from a tank-full.
  16. When I used to work on cars myself I would always ensure the oil was at temperature and then let the oil drain for at least 2-3 hours so pretty much all the heavier deposits would drain out naturally, obviously at a dealers that won't happen.
  17. I agree and the more times you try the more oil is left on the tube so becomes harder and harder. I find best approach is when cold after leaving the car for 24-hours, yes I know you are supposed to do it warm as the oil expands, but if you can't get a reading when warm it's catch-22, so just make an allowance that when cold it will be slightly lower.
  18. If you have ever had a car without power steering this would be pretty apparent in terms of the force needed to turn the steering wheel.
