  1. Yes the nuts rust and are a bugger to get undone, but given the cost of new parts hardly worth the labour of messing about. There is absolutely no reason why a new steering rack would be required (which would be expensive) unless they know something they are not telling you.
  2. Replacing track rod ends should not be a huge cost, the parts are around £50 each from Lexus Parts Direct (assuming it's the IS250 in your details).
  3. Does the engine temperature gauge get to normal? If the thermostat is stuck open that could be the cause.
  4. That is a point of view held by some for conventional automatics, and there is some logic in that changing the oil may introduce dirt / debris that blocks the narrow oil passageways. However, eCVTs are a completely different design and I don't believe they have that risk.
  5. I think much more should be done to crack down on the rogue traders who knowingly take in stolen CCs, if thieves couldn't sell them on then they would not be stolen in the first place.
  6. I believe it is now, but at the time (few years ago) was fully legal as I did check quite thoroughly. Somewhere in the car park will be a sign with the terms and conditions that say something like parking for customers only, max-2-hours etc. I was not a customer, had left the site and was therefore in breach of the terms & conditions which were enforced by an external company (Thug & Co Ltd) employed by the landowner.
  7. Yes, presumably these folk get a cut of the fine so will encourage dishonest and dubious practices. I once parked in a retail car park next to the PO sorting office (which has no parking) to collect a parcel. Within 30-seconds two great thugs jumped out a van and clamped my car demanding £100 in cash within 30-mins or my car is towed away.
  8. Could just be a typo from the admin person who updated Lexus Link and only the fronts were done, I doubt a main dealer would pull a scam like that (I would hope not anyway).
  9. If that was true it would be applicable to all electric vehicles. The key components in a hybrid / electric vehicle are battery, inverter and electric motor(s), none of which require warming up to achieve normal operational efficiency.
  10. I think highly unlikely rear disc pads would wear this quickly, so either there is a fault causing them to bind, or more likely they were not replaced 7,000 miles ago. I don't have an LS460 but have had other large real wheel driven cars where rear pads have typically lasted 30-40k.
  11. There is no servicing of the current generation of eCVTs required, even transmission fluid is supposedly for life. But yes no doubt a repair would be expensive, but there seems to be very few reports of problems.
  12. As other's have stated that is not strictly true, but as the weather gets colder you will find the hybrid system is more likely to start the engine as soon as drive mode is selected, primarily to heat the vehicle interior.
  13. So you have two routes of escalation, Listers is a large network of dealerships covering multiple marques and ultimately that is the company that you contracted with to undertake work on your vehicle. So they will have a management team and Managing Director you can escalate to. You could also consider your local trading standards, although I suspect they are more concerned with actual criminal operations rather than just incompetence. Lexus own the brand, but are not directly responsible for the actions of the dealer but would no doubt be concerned if a dealership is consistently under performing and providing sub-standard service.
  14. Possibly a battery issue.
  15. Sale of new hybrids will not be banned until 2035 (if they can drive a significant distance), I can see hybrids still being attractive for those who don't want the risk of running out of charge, I suspect sales will go down to the wire. I think Lexus will still be targeting the larger luxury car sector, we have already seen the RZ announced.
  16. So if this is a known problem why don't Lexus update their service schedule to include it? After all Toyota pioneered the concept of Kaizen which is about identifying problems and continuous improvement.
  17. The initial comment I made was specifically with reference to ICE vehicles, the trend in increasing vehicle size and weight is directly contributing to increasing CO2 emissions. But on your point there is really no such thing as a zero emissions vehicle, the energy has to come from somewhere and unless that is totally green there will be an environmental impact.
  18. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/ng-interactive/2019/oct/25/suvs-second-biggest-cause-of-emissions-rise-figures-reveal https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5415645/
  19. I think if you live in Greater London winter tyres are pretty much overkill.
  20. If cars returned to the size and weight they were 20-30 years ago that would go a long way to reducing CO2 emissions. I was watching a youtube review of a 1980s BMW 735i, the current 3-series is now bigger than a 7-series used to be.
  21. I'd suggest paying for an MOT before committing would be money well spent, that will either give you peace of mind or opportunity to negotiate or walk away.
  22. What about when another driver pulls over in front of you into your safety gap (which happens frequently), are you then guilty of tailgating? I think lane discipline is a much bigger problem on UK motorways, too many idiots just hogging lanes. And I would like to see the return of more Police traffic officers rather than an over reliance on technology.
  23. Legislation was introduced several years ago to prevent this, so either the Police or Trading Standards are not enforcing this. If there was no market to sell stolen Cats (or other stolen metalwork) then the demand for thefts would naturally go down.
  24. Maybe designed this way as a LHD car, are you sure the jets are functioning correctly? I would be inclined to change these first to confirm if this is indeed the way it was designed.
