  1. You have a newish car so needs to go to a Lexus approved body shop and the costs will almost certainly be well above what the Dad is prepared to pay directly, I doubt if Lexus would repair a bumper. If you had a 10-year old car and went to a smart repair body shop that can repair the bumper it may be a different story.
  2. Maybe setting the interior temperature to minimum (no AC) may help as the engine starts primarily to provide interior heat.
  3. I believe upgrade to either HID or LED would potentially result in an MOT failure as they do not comply with the appropriate lighting regulations. Osram Night-Breaker (in the same fitment as original) is worth trying in my experience, also make sure the alignment is correctly set-up.
  4. I very much doubt it, maybe parts for a 10-year old Focus can be passed on quickly via eBay etc. I think most 4th Gen vehicles are either covered under Relax warranty or would be repaired at a reputable establishment. I think most likely export to countries with right hand drive were there is less diligence on a vehicles provenance.
  5. Also bear in mind a reliability rating of >50% actually means most people did not have a problem.
  6. It is just a statistical trend, the problem is most of us are not fleet managers but just have one sample point. So you may have the most reliable car on the market, but you are the one unlucky person that has a major fault, or you may have a relatively unreliable car but luck out and have no major problems.
  7. I think the price increase would be more shocking, now >£80k for top of the range 5th Gen.
  8. So if third party companies can develop solutions that can be retrofitted relatively easily then surely Lexus could and should offer a solution.
  9. I'd suggest leaving for a few months and you may grow to appreciate them.
  10. I would take it back to where you had the work done and get them to finish the job.
  11. I suspect if E10 causes damage then by definition E5 must also cause damage, but will just take longer for the problem to manifest itself.
  12. Supermarket E5 for me, I think this works out about cost neutral, extra cost negated by slightly better mileage.
  13. Don't forget the starting handle too 😉
  14. It should state SORN if they are stored off road, otherwise most likely they have been scrapped.
  15. Some posts on this forum are quite amusing, but having your car stolen is certainly not one of them, although it has not happened to me, (purely by fortune rather than Lexus engineering). Lexus need to get their act together and take some serious action re the can bus issue.
  16. You can't sell the Jaguar because then your forum username would make no sense 😉 The £695 tax is punitive though and I suspect will be the death of many of these older large engine cars, yes I get the environmental argument but that is negated because most of these cars will be covering low mileages only.
  17. I'm guessing this would be a weekend car rather than a workhorse that's going to clock up the miles, I would not be unduly worried about the lack of recent oil change. Corrosion and ageing of components (esp electronics) would be more of a worry to me.
  18. Never a good idea to run out of fuel, apart from the obvious fail to proceed you can have problems with priming the system and blocking of the fuel filter.
  19. Setting the heater to full blast for a while after a coolant change is always a good idea.
  20. I believe there is a minimum speed too.
  21. The Lexus responses are just a joke though....
  22. Leaving the aircon on continuously is the best way to maintain it and prevent any gas leaks.
  23. I do sympathise with the dealership salesman, he (or she) is trying to sell a product and not getting the support from the manufacturer. Lexus should be briefing both dealerships and customers that a) they recognise the problem and b) what they are doing about it.
  24. Personally I find the eCVT behaves in a very similar way to a conventional torque convertor automatic. Hard acceleration from rest it will hold a low gear ratio at high revs, back off the throttle and revs drop with a higher gear ratio. Accelerating whilst in motion again revs increase whilst a lower gear ratio is selected. In all automatics I do find you rarely use full throttle, in a manual for example you may use full throttle and then change up around at around 3-4000, an automatic at full throttle will approach red line before changing up unless you back off the throttle first.
  25. I remember going up Porlock Hill on a family holiday in a fully loaded Morris Minor, just about made it. More recently did it myself in a Chrysler 300C without effort.
