  1. My experience of rear wheel drive cars in snow is not a good mix, especially an automatic with wide tyres and a bit of power. Slight touch on the throttle one wheel spins like crazy and the other wheel does nothing, maybe if you have an LSD you stand a better chance. Not sure tyre choice makes much difference either as all the grooves soon get clogged up with snow.
  2. Occasionally looking at some of these Cop programmes that seem to be on all the time these days the sentence seems consistent, ie very lenient. I suspect a greater sentence would only be handed out in the event of injury or death.
  3. If you are looking for a 4th Gen RX beware of the Canbus theft vulnerability, otherwise it's a great car.
  4. The 12V battery would be a good starting point, a poor battery is known to throw various spurious fault conditions.
  5. Do you get a similar noise if you just unlock the car and open a door? I believe this is the electronic braking system as you don't have conventional vacuum servo assistance with a hybrid.
  6. Surely there are grounds for a class legal action against Lexus. All these adverts that you are owed thousands of pounds if you once looked at a diesel car, and at most impacted owners have taken a relatively small hit on resale values.
  7. It will darken, but I would not expect black unless it's a diesel. Have you changed it since your carbon cleaning, maybe that the carbon deposits have contaminated the oil?
  8. I think too many variables and not enough data to give an accurate price.
  9. Is it not possible to purchase a single wheel from Lexus? Otherwise you may need to make an insurance claim.
  10. Probably the door actuator or possibly the wiring.
  11. As you have a 72 plate, do you actually need them now or just planning ahead? The choice may be different in a couple of years time if that's when you need them.
  12. Test your Faraday cage by walking up to the car and see if the key is recognised (whilst in the tin / pouch). Double locking will have zero impact on a Relay or Canbus attack, but will help prevent access from a window being smashed.
  13. Jump starting from a Hybrid is a definite no-no as the electrical system is not designed to provide the required current output (typically a short duration of several hundred amps to crank an engine), the 12V battery just boots the electronics with the power to crank the engine coming from the Hybrid battery. Jump starting from another vehicle should be ok, probably don't even need the engine running as you just need sufficient power to boot up the electronics. The third scenario would be a flat Hybrid battery (eg vehicle left standing for a long duration), I assume there is a dealer procedure for this.
  14. Personally I would not call that FSH as looks like you have some missed services.
  15. Have you checked out Lexus Parts Direct, they may be cheaper. https://lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/
  16. I think changing the 12V battery is a good place to start, certainly looks old, there is probably a date code on it somewhere.
  17. I do find there is definitely a different feel to the electrical power steering in the RX compared to conventional hydraulic power steering, but I would not describe it as heavy as such.
  18. Manic in the local supermarket this morning, I parked in my usual spot well away from anyone else. As I walked in a woman pushing her trolley missed scraping the front bumper of a high end Porsche with her trolley by about 2mm and I thought to myself, yes that's why I park up the corner.
  19. The trip computer may not be that accurate, filling the tank to the brim, refilling and calculating manually is a more accurate method.
  20. So don't mess around trying to get a quote, just go straight to your insurance company and let them sort it.
  21. Most insurance companies will have approved body shops and whether Lexus approved or not will likely want to fit all new parts and if the other party is paying your insurance company is unlikely to question the cost. Yes you could shop around and probably find an independent repair shop who could do a very neat repair if it's just a minor crack, but why should you when it's not your fault? You will have to declare it for up to 5-years every time you get a quote, but should not impact your premiums if it was a no fault incident.
