  1. There are two variations on this, the ISO 3779 format (which Dundee has) and the North American standard (which everyone's describing). Both are illustrated here. My old '86 Corolla liftback had a VIN of:- JT1L0EE80050550** (last two digits left out) Unfortunately it's difficult to dig up the correct information from the Internet any more, due to it getting snowed under with more and more fake search engines instead of genuine websites.
  2. On my old Corolla (D-reg) the first part of the code was JT1L0EE80. EE80 was the vehicle model & shape, in the same place as yours.
  3. I'd move onto the junction if necessary, then fight it later if an NIP comes through the post.
  4. The "any unpainted part" connection is made LAST (i.e. after the negative connection on the other car, and after both positive connections). This is to ensure there are no sparks near the battery (battery fumes are explosive).
  5. Dunno. No cops about, was just a Highways depot sign. Black ice? Couldn't have been any worse than the lane I had to use instead!
  6. Did a search for shi tzu before posting and couldn't find it (and zoo won't work because it's only 3 letters). Of course, the swear filter would've kicked in on the original and changed it to ****zu!
  7. Drove home in the GS last night, -5°C outside. Got to about 4 miles from home, to be confronted with two traffic cones and a ROAD CLOSED sign. No diversion, nothing. Had to turn off and go up (and down the other side) a narrow, ungritted, icy country lane about 2 miles long. Found Snow mode and VSC a godsend. Kept my foot in one position and let the car do the rest, car slowed right down where it needed to. Wheels slipped a few times, but the car stayed stable and kept going up the hill. Don't know how I'd have fared in the old Carina!
  8. Don't know about your area, but where I live the Toyota dealer charges double labour for working on imports. Not sure how much now, but that used to work out at £80/hour - still cheaper than Lexus!
  9. A man goes to the zoo. . . . . . . . . . . When he gets there, there is only a dog! . . . . . . . . . It was a Shi tzu.
  10. I think the 1, 4 and 6 have to be pressed simultaneously. There'll be info in the owners' handbook, look up the radio in it.
  11. The blue one was gorgeous (it's metallic blue), but I don't think that mounting point'll be snapping off in a hurry! Thought Jiberjaber would've had problems getting the replacement (I bought it off Fasterfilters, he bought it off me!), glad it's sorted.
  12. Heh, I had a parcel sent over from the states (an electronic corrosion inhibitor), picked it up from Builth Wells post office. Had "Charge" stamped all over the front of the bag, but no charge details. "Oh well, sign for it anyway, we've got your address if there's a problem." Signed for the parcel, got to the car, turned the bag over so see the charge form stating that I actually owed them over thirty quid for VAT and handling! Never mind... :D
  13. I saw that too, although there's no mention of it on the Fifth Gear website. The difference was more marked on the Scooby (or was it an Evo) though, over 10bhp increase I think?
  14. Make sure the paint doesn't get chipped or you'll get rust bubbles working their way under (was the case on my Mk.1)
  15. And of course if any ladies would like to "Ramon" it...
  16. Link This is an archived version as they eventually changed the site to use his middle name of Barrie - I wonder why?
