  1. At least on the SC every time you change an electronic part it doesn’t have to be coded like it does on a BMW meaning a trip to a main dealer because very few independents have the software to carry it out. I am not sure this is still the case for newer Lexus models though. Everything hinges on tying you back to the main dealer as soon as anything goes wrong with a price tag to match.
  2. My RX45O was £120 on top of the service last year by Lexus.
  3. I think they vary a bit. The one I had from SC430mods.com was fine but the one I changed it to that had the lock function was the same as yours on the high settings. It no longer worked after Lexus doing the airbag recall so I am back to standard as well now.
  4. What really annoys me is like what happened a couple of days ago. Car has been washed so lovely and clean and a nice dry sunny day so time for a nice drive with the top down. Then the road you are driving on has a burst water main for a hundred yards so the car is now absolutely splattered with dirty water and needing another wash on returning home. This has happened to me several times before.
  5. I have some success with other cars using a hot air gun to get the stretches out of leather. Obviously not too hot to burn the leather. Being damp beforehand also sometimes helps.
  6. Online the average charge for an alternator repair is £440. Obvious not Lexus or an OEM part which could be 2-3 times that.
  7. When I was 61, I was fit as a fiddle almost and would do and did anything so yes you are. I was driving every year to Italy then. Last time was in 2018 but it surprising what 6 years how your body changes. 73 now with a bad back and waiting for a knee replacement. I still count myself fortunate though as nothing life threatening going on. So yes do everything you can do now while you still can.
  8. I guess my car fits that category especially considering its low mileage. However I bought it for my pleasure and wouldn’t hesitate to drive it round Europe. The question now more at my age is do I want to drive round Europe. My mind says yes but my body and wife are not so sure. The easy option would be to just use the RX if that were the case. I do admire the adventures you are having with yours though. Perhaps one day!
  9. Thats me. Can’t help it. Just like shiny things.
  10. I can never really see the point of wrapping a car in that if it gets scratched or damaged it will need replacing and they are quoted as only lasting 5 years. However thinking about it apart from Lexus owners who keeps their car for more than 4 years on average.
  11. Just noticed the green one on Autotrader is Cat D. Hence the low price
  12. It’s a shame Lexusworld went tit’s up there were such nice people on it and an enormous amount of useful information. Love the Tourmaline wheels on Nick’s car I did consider getting those myself but they are not easy to find.
  13. When I bought my SC 3 years ago I didn’t even mention to my wife I was tentatively looking at buying another car. I just told her that I had seen a car for sale and was ringing up the next day to buy it. Bad timing as we were going on holiday the same day. I think she is just about over it now bless her.
  14. In fairness if you are not intending to replace the existing Sat Nav the SC430mods one works well which is what it was intended for. It’s easy to fit because it just plugs into the Sat Nav in the boot without running a cable up to the screen. The only thing lets it down is the low resolution of the existing Lexus display. I’ve had mine for a couple of years now and it’s been fine. Ironically I don’t really need the SC430mods one as I later fitted a front and rear dashcam which has a separate rear camera. That one did need the cable running to the front of the car. I ran that through a hole that is just up under the rear seat back on the passenger side of the car and then up through under the side of the centre console to get to the dashboard area. In the photo you can see that wire as well as the two wire cable that goes to my quarter window mod.
  15. Wow, rare colour and cheap. I had a BMW Z3 M Coupe in the same colour which I loved. I only sold it because I rarely used it. In hindsight I should have keep it as they are worth a fortune now. Even though I don’t use the SC much either it’s not going anywhere although I can’t see them going up much in value but it’s a much nicer car to drive than the BMW was.
  16. 16 of the 37 SC’s on Autotrader at the moment are silver so I guess that is the most common colour produced. Would love to see a green or bronze one but I guess they might not have offered those colours in the UK.
  17. I am pretty sure the SC430 does not have a canbus system as you will never see a canbus immobilizer listed for it. I believe It uses an earlier ISO system but the info on it is not easy to find. You can sigh up for a day for a nominal fee at Lexus-Tech.eu where it has extensive wiring diagrams for the SC and from memory R/H and L/H versions. You can also download bits for your information,
  18. My knob now but still have the original.
  19. Some people do the roof a completely different colour altogether.
  20. Same here but I found Wally!
  21. Prices year on year are just always going to go up because of the amount of electric cars being written off. Have anything other than a minor bump and they don’t know if the battery is unaffected especially a side impact I would have thought. If the battery needs to be removed for the repair or to scrap the car how many can do that? I doubt they will stand the test of time like an SC will.
  22. I thought that was expensive until I saw the price of Espuma RD50
  23. Obviously it depends where you live. I’m not in a city and my RX450h has been parked in the street for over 3 years now and it has never been touched. It does have the Lexus plates fitted and a Pandora Storm canbus immobiliser fitted. I also recently put stickers from ebay on the windscreen to say a canbus immobiliser is fitted. Sadly it makes no difference when it comes to insuring the car
  24. Wow. That engine bay looks like new.
  25. Pretty good going compared to other cars of this age of other manufacturers considering only roughly 2000 sold in the UK. It’s says something about the build quality of these cars and their owners. Well the car at least. My build quality is not what it was.
