A couple of newbie questions for you
Glyn Jennings replied to microgerry's topic in Lexus SC430 Club
The bluetooth adapter I have uses the CD function to work so you can’t have a CD playing at the same time but you might do with a cassettes but I don’t know as I haven’t used them for years. I stream music directly from my phone. If your speakers don’t need refoaming the sound will be great. Often the 6 x 9 speakers in the doors need refoaming for which you can buy a kit from the USA quite cheaply and it is fairly easy to do. You will know if that is the case as the sound will be terrible. You can refoam all the speakers if necessary. People don’t tend to go the main dealers now due to cost and age of the cars. They are quite rare so the average Lexus mechanic won’t have had much experience of the SC especially if they are young so will have to rely on the Techstream system. A good independent Toyota dealer will be the best alternative and will probably use the same system and be cheaper. Personally a good friend of mine runs his own small garage and he is very experienced and can repair just about any make of car. Most small garages now have electronic diagnostic readers for all makes and at the end of the day most cars are very similar to work on if you know what you are doing. -

Wellcome to the group and well done for buying a rather exclusive car. Bluetooth was never fitted in the early cars but aftermarket mods are available. I personally have the SC430mods.com one which works well. I have aftermarket 19” wheels on mine and use 33psi all round. -
Advice on buying 2008 SC430 vs 2002
Glyn Jennings replied to MemoryDealer's topic in Lexus SC430 Club
I’m currently trying to fit a new throttle controller and failing at the moment. I did it before a couple of years ago now I am really struggling to get up under the dashboard. Seat reclined legs over the top with my head rammed in the drivers foot well. To top it all I pulled a connector by mistake and can’t see where it came from. I can see a visit to the physio for a pulled muscle if I actually manage it. It’ should be an easy job but getting to the connector to squeeze and pull is a nightmare. -
A set of standard pre facelift wheels that could go really cheap if you live near Crewe and are looking for some.

Advice on buying 2008 SC430 vs 2002

I have happy memories of driving to Italy every year for eighteen years but never in a sports car but fast estate cars. The Brenner pass in Switzerland is worth doing on the way or coming back. -

I have alway liked Lexus Tourmaline wheels but they are no longer available so quite difficult to source. These are for sale on ebay at a a knock down price. Obviously you would have to find another pair to go with them. Sorely tempted myself as a real bargain for someone within a reasonable distance to pick up. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/186473821751?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=J25Ph7VbS0W&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=fgLYK3NFS2u&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

I always have the car running as well which is what the seller recommends however I have a solar panel so the battery is always 100% so probably not so much of an issue if it wasn’t running so long as I don’t keep doing it. As a back up I also have a NOCO jump starter just in case so hopefully all bases covered. I really would like a remote starter as well but currently none seem to be available now including the Viper one but at £600 I don’t want one that much. I did have a conversation with Calvin at SC430mods a while back as I was hoping he was going to produce something similar and he didn’t think draining the battery was an issue but so far he hasn’t got round to making one. For me it was not a great deal of money so if I don’t use it that much it is fine. Unfortunately I am at an age where I don’t drive the car either very much but really enjoy it when I do. Even my day to day car the RX in three and a half years I have only done 15,000mls. Only 2500mls in the SC in nearly the same period which I know is criminal. All being well I hope to do the SC500 in the SC next year joints allowing.

Arrived today and now fitted. A very simple and quick job. Works well just a shame you need the ignition on first so it’s a bit of a novelty but it’s nice to watch the roof go up and down without being the car. The seller sent it to Buyee and they received on Monday and I received it today so thats quick postage.

Did a bit of research and it is a updated XJS which I think are 1992-5. Prices seem to be on the up for this model.

This one came up on my Facebook page today. I love the colour. I am not sure what model it is but I have a soft spot for the shape.

The stock SC sound is really quiet. It was designed for refinement and touring.

The XKR-S cars I have seen for sale are £35-50k. Way more than a normal XKR. Perhaps I am looking in the wrong place.
-
Did you not consider a LC500 in your list. It would be be my choice in that price bracket but I do like Jags as well.

The control is now on it’s way to me. I forget that when I have bought stuff from Japan via Buyee that after they have received your parcel in their warehouse they then charge you to ship it to the UK which this time was £17 last time it was £20 so you have to add this to the overall cost. I guess that is where they make their money as their commission is very low.

I have had 3 different ones, don’t ask me why and I need another one now because Lexus broke the last one. The second one I bought from SC430mods didn’t pulse even on the highest setting but the one he sells now is different so may not be the same. The last one I bought direct from China as it had a park setting did pulse at higher settings so my conclusion is they vary in the amount of throttle response. When they pulse it almost seems it needs more fuel than the injection system can cope with. If I do get another one I will probably go with the standard 9+Drive one from China without the park setting as this seems to be similar to the one I had from SC430mods which for me was the best of the bunch.

Or after a little vino. A comfy night for thrr bed iss sgood

Wow, I bought 3rd party ones and they were about £15. Nearly 3 years on they are still fine.

I have noticed when unlocking the car on the standard key fob if you keep the button pressed down it will also lower the windows before getting in the car. It would be great if you could link this to lowering the roof as well. Odd thing is it doesn't do the same when locking the car. ie if the windows are down when locking the car they stay down.

It’s a mod made by Satoshi Sasaki in Japan who sells both the quarter window mod and the remote roof mod. You have to buy them by registering with Buyee.jp. They both are basically plug in modules so can easily be removed if no longer required. My car is 2004 and it works well since fitting it in March 2023. The mod that Calvin was selling was just a way of not having to press the open/close button all the time so was just a one touch operation it didn’t control the quarter windows any different to the the normal operation. In the future he might do his own versions of what Satoshi does but who knows when as he has quite a few more mods planned but it is just him on a part time basis and his wife to do everything. I paid £133 including shipping for the quarter window mod but it is now less than that at the moment. The remote roof mod is £83 including shipping. There are videos of both on YouTube.

I have just ordered from Japan a remote control for opening and closing the roof. I subsequently now realise it will only work with the ignition on so not quite what I was hoping for as I was hoping to open or close the roof before getting in or after leaving the car which would be a really cool feature. I already have the mod where you can have the quarter windows up with the roof down and down with the roof up. Installation is very easy as you just unplug one of the connectors on the back of the A/C unit and connect the mod between the same connector and the A/C unit. I am now wondering how I could get it to work just after unlocking the car without the ignition on. So I guess this would need a remote starter or a power supply to the roof after only unlocking the car. Any suggestions?

Outdoor all weather cover ? SC430 2013
Glyn Jennings replied to Stephen Hirst's topic in Lexus SC430 Club
I don’t have one for sale but I did I buy a Hamilton classic one. It’s a breathable all weather Moltex cover. The size they sent for the SC is just right without wing mirror pockets. It ties down at the sides under the car and the straps are long enough to tie at the front and back as well so it is very secure. A lot of people say a cover will damage the paint but for me in 18 months the soft interior has not damaged the paint at all but my car does have a ceramic coating. I have however had to vacuum the inside as it does collect dust after a long period of time. Cost was around £200. Whatever you do never put a cheap plastic non breathable one on a car or put any cover on if the car is wet. Water can penetrate the paint surface and leave water marks which are very difficult to get rid of if that happens. -
I did that with mine when I first got my car and personally I was never happy with it. As soon as i touched the accelerator to maintain a constant speed I could hear it even with the roof up at low rev’s so it got on my nerves in the end and I put the original exhaust back on. If I was doing it again I would have some boxes fitted rather than straight pipes. Having said that we are all different so you might love it. My preference would for something that you hear above say 3000 rev’s which I believe a RCF or LC500 would be like but I might be wrong as I have not even driven one.

If the wheels are wider and offset less than standard this is also going to restrict access as the tyre will be closer to the wheel arch.
