Wellcome to what seems to be quite an exclusive club. You car looks very nice.

I have seen secondhand amps on buyee.jp which is a Japanese company that facilitate buying from Japan yahoo auctions similar to ebay in the uk. I think there is one on there where the bid is about £57. Obviously it would be more with shipping. I find it quite fascinating what you see on that site ranging from anything like red interiors to really nice body kits. However the problem is the bigger the item the bigger the charge for shipping so for small items it is great but for large items it becomes quite onerous.

I guess you are fortunate if yours are still perfect. I would suspect the reflective finish is just on the surface otherwise the back of the disc would look the same.
-
It was last year when I tried to remove the lacquer when I put the existing wheels in storage and I can’t now remember what I tried but it may have been panel wipe or isopropyl alcohol. I do have thinners and stronger solvents but am reluctant to use them as to not destroy the original finish.
-
The point is that the original finish is like machined metal in that it reflects the light at different angles. This is the finish under the lacquer and it is the lacquer that peels off so the ideal thing to do is to remove all the old lacquer and apply a new coating.
-
On my pieplates the lacquer has also started to peel off as well. I did start to try and remove all of it but it was taking for ever so as not to damage the finish underneath so any recommendations as to what is the best thing to use that would be effective but not damage the plastic finish?

Yes I was looking forward to seeing you as well as you and I are quite active on this forum but by the time I got round to it you had just left so perhaps next year. Regarding the markers this is a link to ebay. I offered $62 for 4 and they accepted my offer. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284933919161?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=mlJvGx96TN2&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=fgLYK3NFS2u&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY I did also buy the bulb holder sockets and wiring as well just in case I ever wanted to wire then into the indicator circuit as I purchased 2 sets of amber LED’s. My car is a preface model but I am not sure if the later ones are the same size. Mine are 183mm wide x 38mm high. Vladimir was at the meet yesterday with two SC’s both silver and he had the smoked ones on his which he had wired in and they where sequential LED’s although I didn’t see them working myself. Here is a link to the bulb holder sockets and the wiring connectors. The wiring connectors were very cheap from AliExpress but they were very tight and had to forced on. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195592157367?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=EgGS6wAyTp-&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=fgLYK3NFS2u&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

I have just seen thar Calvin at SC430mods.com is now starting selling clear side marker lights. Coincidentally I only fitted some myself a couple of weeks ago which are the same but from ebay. Obviously they don’t light up because they are not wired up on UK cars so are just clear reflectors. I bought them as all amber LEDs but I would have liked white then I might have considered wiring them up as daylight running lights but I couldn’t find any. I did also buy some bulb holders and wiring if ever I wanted to wire them up as amber indicators.

I guess you are right I hadn’t thought of that.

Hi Neil, I had the steering wheel off last year to wrap it so perhaps I have caused the problem myself although I hadn’t noticed a problem until now. I guess I am going to have to take it off again to investigate.
-
This came up on Facebook randomly as things do and I thought this looked like a good idea if and when doing a timing belt change by cutting the old one in half while fitting the new one so everything stays in the right position.

I would love a DS23 convertible.

I’ve had four BMW’s so I thought it was time to start using them.

i have been out today in the SC430 top down enjoying the sunshine. Something i have noticed the last couple of trips is that the indicator stalk is not cancelling after indicating left. The indicator sound is very quiet and with the the extra exhaust noise I forget the indicator is still on. Any suggestions how to fix this?
-
I have notified my insurance company change of wheels, exhaust and throttle controller and it was only the throttle controller that increased the price by about £20. I had real trouble trying to get them to understand what the throttle controller did. I have a combined policy with my RX and with both of them the increase was about £300 in May this year for both but that was with the extra they charge you to ay monthly.

Thanks for the heads up I’ve just picked up one myself as I probably need to take my bumpers off again. Lidl and Aldi are so clever as you walk past things they catch your eye and even though you never thought about buying something your brain goes I need one of those and the trick is that it’s pretty cheap and you know if you don’t buy it now it won’t be there next time so you buy it to sit in a draw sometimes never to be used. Gets me every time.

Hi Nigel, This probably is to late to help you and may not applicable but when you talked about replacing your aerial I was sure I saw somewhere where you can change the aerial mast quite easily. The subject has come up again on the CLUB Lexus forum and there is a Technical Bulletin on how to do this which I have attached. However it does require you to be able to power out the mast and then just power the new one in but unless you could coach yours out it probably won't work for you but I thought I would mention it anyway. If you are not already aware there are a number of Technical bulletins covering various subjects on this site which are very useful for repairing the SC yourself.L-SB-0029-13-Repair Manual Supplement Replacement of Antenna.pdf

Hi Perry, because the sensors were always fitted after the car left tho factory so therefore fitted by either a dealer or someone else there is no set place where the speaker is to be located. I put mine just at the front of the lower rear seat so I knew I would be able to hear it. So I would start there as if it is really loud it probably isn’t in the boot area and with the control unit in the boot the cable to the speaker in my case wouldn’t reach to the dash board area. The lower rear seat easily removed just by pulling up either side.

I had a Basic Pandora Storm immobilizer and not the Plus version fitted on my 2016 RX450h a couple of days ago following the fact that the RX is now in the top ten cars being stolen in the UK. I had it installed by a local car audio specialist who have a really good reputation. A little bit dearer than some for the installation but they did loan me a car for the day at no extra cost. This should stop Canbus theft and the tag which needs to be near the car to start the engine goes to sleep via a motion sensor when not in use.. I chose this one over the Ghost immobilizer as you don't have to press buttons in the car to deactivate and if the Storm unit is located by a thief (although hidden) if removed the car still won't start as cuts are made to the canbus wiring unlike the Ghost. The Storm does also offer a optional anti Hijack function but it is not able to be done on Hybrid or electric vehicles. You should never let your hybrid run out of fuel which entails a visit to the dealer so I guess this may have something to do with it. So far it all seems to be good as it is working although at the moment I haven't worked out how long it takes for the tag to go to sleep or the distance it will still operate away from the vehicle. I did contact Pandora UK support but it is pretty poor. Unless they fitted it themselves they just refer you back to the dealer and even if you opt on the phone and say it was fitted by them it says they are closed even though I rang them within their stated office hours. You are also supposed to be able to connect the system to your iphone via an app as well which I have yet tried yet but the reviews for the app says it doesn't work. I have learnt a tip which I had forgotten about that on your normal Lexus key fob if you hold down the lock button and press the unlock button twice it stops the signal from the remote being sent until you press the unlock button again so this will prevent key cloning and relay theft so you shouldn't in theory need to keep your keys in a faraday pouch although you might want to do anyway as a precautionary measure. I will update this post on my experience as time goes on. Any other owner comments and experience regarding the Storm immobilizer?

I assume that is the intruder alarm in that if there is a a movement in the cabin it goes off whereas movement as say on a ferry is external movement which is different but I could be wrong. Having said that it doesn’t seem obvious where a sensor is to trigger the alarm with external movement

I like it. Did you know on these 5 slat grilles the Lexus badge is removable as it is only held on by one screw so you also have the option to easily take it off for a cleaner look if you wish. On the later models with the 6 slat grilles it is all part of the moulding of the grille so can’t be removed.

I have same problem with windy or thunder and lighting conditions which sets off the tilt sensor as my car has a car cover on it. You can disable this function it is in the manual. From memory you have to open the door and open & close the door lock several times within a short time and the security light will flash for a period of time. I know it is in the manual but I can’t remember the exact procedure.
