  1. ahh ok got it thanks, so basically its not overly important as long as I stick to V W Y and the load rating on the rear is slightly higher. I'll see if I can get it booked in this week and get those tyres switched round, could actually be the reason why I'm sliding all over the place lately...
  2. Thanks @LenT much appreciated. As for tyres I'm not sure to be honest, my last car had Michelin Cross climates and they were really good, id have them again but they're a little more than I want to spend at the moment. Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 - These sound good at £411 for a full set? again any other recommendations are welcome.
  3. Looking at replacing all 4 tyres on my IS 250. I'm not clued up at all when it comes to tyres so wanted to check i'm on the right lines before I buy anything I have 17inch alloys, Asda recommend the following FRONT - 225/45-R17 (91W) REAR - 245/45-R17 (99Y) Problem is, I've checked the car and it seems to be the opposite (225/45 (91Y) on the rear and 245/45 (95w) on the front) Which set up is correct? (does it even matter) What does the figure/letter combo mean (91W, 99Y etc) Any help here would be much appreciated thanks Lee
  4. The ground noise loop isolator works a treat, (Thanks @zoricib) no reduction in sound quality it all seems to be well.
  5. 😯 A free aircon check?! what did they did do? switch it on and off a few times to see if it works...🤦‍♂️ Very expensive fix overall but at least it's sorted now, one less thing to worry about over Christmas. Mine were listed as an advisory on the Last MOT "Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material" My mechanic said they're fine, the grease they're covered in is preventing the corrosion. Will probably have to be looked at, at some point but I wont be going to Lexus for that.
  6. Mine does the same, I've noticed it because it's intermittent. When it does do it, taking my foot off the brake slightly sometimes helps, sticking it neutral always stops it. My gearbox has also been shifting perfectly fine. Think it may just be one of those things we have to live with. A few days ago someone had posted an issue with their car making a weird clunk sound when turning the wheel full lock, mine does the same. Based on the replies sounds like it's pretty much down to how the cars built and nothing to worry about, Hopefully this is a similar thing...
  7. True indeed Personally anything over 400bhp is overkill for UK roads. (that's not to say I wouldn't own a car with more than 400bhp haha.) I've driven quite a few of the older M3 comps, C63s etc they're all stupid fast but unable to put all the power down most of the time (and that's when it's dry) Pushing An slightly slower but lighter, more agile car to it's limits on a back road is much more rewarding in my opinion. That being said I think the IS 350 would have been out of place in UK there's not much it does better than the 250. Would it cruise better on the motorway? only just...The IS250 sits at 2krpm at 70 2.4k at 80, engine as quiet as a mouse barley even breaking a sweat with still enough power on tap for overtaking. Both cars would be equally as refined, the 350 having more power in reserve. pointless given the 70 speed limit. On the twisties the 250 isn't all that nimble. It's a heavy car and you feel it when you start attempting to throw it around, gearbox is slow to react. Adding extra power and weight would be of no real benefit on a British B road. all we'd have got was car that moved a quicker in a straight line at the cost of heavier fuel consumption a larger insurance premium and probably bigger servicing costs along with more frequent tyre, brake changes. Not really worth it IMO. would loved to have tried one though. The GS 350 would have made more sense in UK.
  8. I agree with what you're saying I thought your were talking about the size of the car only if we're talking about the size of the car, a 250 is a similar size to a focus, golf, 3 series etc. it's not considered large, its seen as a standard luxury car, a "nice" car, definitely not a "luxo barge" If we're talking engine size then yes in the UK 2.5 is considered a "big" engine. to the non car person living in the UK anything over a 2Litre is considered a big engine and therefore assumed to be expensive to run. it's why most cars with big petrol engines can be had for next to nothing in the UK. Completely different story in the states as you already know. A 2.5v6 is a baby engine, probably the equivalent to a standard 1.6 4pot here, A teenager driving a 5Litre V8 is normal. it's why the American market get cars like the 350 and we don't A 5series, GS, E class, A6 - are considered big cars here, these are what the general public would consider a "luxo barge" or a "fancy" car. Similar story with 7/ S/ LS/A8 etc to the non car person which likely accounts for the vast majority the true luxo barge is pretty much in the same category as the large/sport saloon. A range rover is probably considered to be more luxurious than any Lexus LS (not fact at all just my opinion)
  9. I also don't trust myself to fiddle with the Nav unit so bought one of these last week from Amazon. [Have a look] Audio (Via Spotify) is fantastic as is call quality, and tracks can be skipped, paused etc. HOWEVER I am getting a irritating whining sound every so often which rises in pitch as the cars speed increases. Just ordered a ground noise loop isolator so hopefully that does the trick. OP i'll keep you posted.
  10. I'm having the same Issue, only happens when I'm pulling off the drive (as full lock is required) or maneuvering when car/wheels are cold. Doesn't sound great at all but Lexus didn't spot anything when I took it to them, (they did perform some steering wheel adjustments so it doesn't drift to one side as much anymore but that noise is still there and steering wheel still skips/shakes over bigger bumps. new tyres aside, my front alloys are quite badly corroded maybe that could be the issue? OP how are yours looking?
  11. I agree, ^^ Lexus didn't quite get the sporty thing right (with the 250) but it still turned out to be an amazing car all round, feels more like a baby GS300/C class alternative than a 3 series rival. Not the type of car you'd take out on a Sunday Morning B road blast but plenty quick enough for getting about in. Like a Honda of similar vintage it does it's best work at the top and likes to be revved out (sounds good too) does the comfortable/near silent cruising thing better than most modern cars. Would have gotten a 330i if outright performance was the aim but it would more than likely be sat in a garage right about now, with the mechanic typing up nice big bill for me. The 250 is considered a "Baby V6" in America its a very popular "first car" for teenagers/students etc with the 350 being the more grown up, sportier version, so it's deemed slow in comparison. Could also be the fact that they generally use lower octane fuel (87) which I'm guessing is why they have way more issues with Carbon build up than we do over here. Premium fuel makes quite a noticeable performance (IMO) difference in these cars @Linas.P Nobody considers a 250 to be a "large luxo barge" here. It's looked at and was marketed as as "compact executive saloon" It's known to be an entry level luxury car but a luxury car nonetheless, a clear step above your Vauxhalls, Hondas, Fords etc. My dad bought his 250 new 11 years ago. To him a Large Luxo barge was a 5 series or E-class which he wanted but couldn't quite afford.
  12. I'm not sure, The battery on the spare was dead and had to be replaced when I bought the car so battery on this one probably isn't far behind.
  13. Yea I keep hearing about VLAND. How much did they cost you if you don't me asking and where did you get them from?
  14. I was actually going to post something similar but I'll gatecrash this instead as it looks like the OP has done a runner. I've got the Halogen lights (MY 08) they're absolutely terrible at night. went on .hids-direct but I have no idea what I'm looking for to be honest. Is it just a case of swapping out the bulbs for brighter ones or is it a little more complicated than that? If someone could point me in the right direction with a link or 2 that'd be great, in the meantime i'll search the forum thanks guys.
  15. Hey all, I Went to see my dad the other day, when it was time to leave I couldn't get into my car, the keyless entry thing wouldn't work. I had no choice but to use the Key, that set the alarm off, which then involved another 5 minutes messing about trying to start the car. Eventually for some reason it started and the alarm stopped. Very Strange.... Any idea what it could have been? my dad has the same car (MY 10) said it's happened to him a few times in the 9 years he's had his. Could it be that our key fobs signals were interfering with each other? had a quick look on here and it doesn't seem to be a common issue.
  16. it's probably the Amp, mine does it, Aux works when it wants as does the sub. I've got a new amp sat in the garage but I have no idea how to get the old one out without breaking the boot trim, either gonna be a summer job or one for a professional.
  17. Mate that looks Amazing! Never been a fan of the gated shifter and the White/blue glow looks much better Very well done! Can you show us a few pics of the steering wheel?
  18. Thanks Keith Is there a way to check if it needs replacing without taking the bumper off?
  19. Thanks Vlad, I've just found the wheels/tyres section of the forum haha. Cross climates seem to be a forum favorite, so i'll stick with those.
  20. Apologies in advance if this topic has already been covered (I did do a search but nothing came up.) My car is currently in with Lexus having a Transmission & Brake fluid drain/fill Just got a video back from them and it appears the drivers side rear tyre has some metal stuck inside and could do with replacing. The question is are the OEM tyres any good or do I hold out and go aftermarket? Ideally id like something quiet (the quieter the better) that can be used all weather. I had a set of Michelin cross climates on my previous car and they were fantastic! What tyre do you use or would recommend? Cheers
  21. Is this something Lexus do as part of their servicing?
  22. I agree prices are high, and there's just not much to pick from at the moment. Have you considered this one? It's an 07 SE-L with 72k miles. Could save yourself over a grand if everything checks out. Only issue is you'd be limited to using only premium fuel, certainly not a bad thing considering you're only doing 3k per year and car feels much much more responsive on the good stuff.
  23. My last three fill ups have been with Shell V Power, Throttle response is much sharper, even more so in PWR mode. MPG seems to be about the same though. I'd say i'm sticking to the premium stuff from now on but with how things are at the moment I'll take what I can get...
  24. I've often wondered the same thing OP. I've had DSG's in the past and always kept my foot on the brake pedal at lights, stop n go traffic or short ish stops never had an issue with the Lexus however, I hear a slight rubbing sound when the brake is applied not sure what it is I'm guessing (and hoping) its a brake disks/pads issue and not the gearbox. For that reason I've been sticking it into neutral for any wait longer than a minute or so. Another thing I seem to be a little paranoid about is parking on steep incline, My driveway for example. every time I engage D from P when its on the drive there's quite a loud "clunk" sound. Doesn't sound like it's doin the gearbox any good at all. I'd get it occasionally with some of my previous cars but as they were all leased so under warranty I didn't really worry about it. womble72's answer makes sense though so I'll be leaving it D from now on
