  1. Hey all. Apologies if this has been covered before just wondering what the mpg is on the 2nd gen GS300's Currently drive an IS250 and seriously considering a 300, driving is a mixture of short 1 to 3 mile trips with a some longer 30+ mile motorway runs twice or 3 times a week. I know its going to cost more overall to run just wondering how much more. if I have some rough mpg figures maybe I could justify it with some man maths 😄 Thanks in advance.
  2. Lexus advise only cars from 2008 onwards to use E10. Id recommend everyone to use E5 regardless as it doesn't seem to like E10. My car on E5 car doesn't feel as smooth overall, throttle response is dull and MPG is worse. I pay the extra 6p per litre for Tescos momentum E5 with the odd Vpower fill up here n there.
  3. Nice! Do they also illuminate when you approach the car?
  4. Incredible! Well done mate. I'm still amazed by the white LED replacement, transforms the interior completely. Question: How difficult would it be to install radar cruise?
  5. Would have thought a car like this wouldn't be a hard sell with the way things are, but I guess it works both ways. A thirsty V6 probably isn't the best choice for a daily driver right now.
  6. My thoughts exactly, but he said it's costing him too much in petrol now for the short trips he's doing, he's looking at a hybrid of some sort. Part of me is temped to sell mine and buy his. I'd be getting a newer car with a better trim (mines an SE) albeit 30k more miles but could be worth it...
  7. After 10 years, My dads decided he wants to change his 250 for something else. It's a 2010 SE-L (with the ML stereo) 117k with a full Lexus service History. He looked at trading it in against another car and was offered £2.5k I put the details into WBAC a few days ago and that wasn't any better at £2,880 I'm guessing the dealer would match the WBAC price if pushed but I'm guessing he could probably fetch close to £5k if sold privately and I'm pretty sure it'd be up on the dealers forecourt for closer to £6k? Why are the trade prices so terrible for this car, is this normal, or are we looking in the wrong places?
  8. Hi Lucian, Maybe this thread might help https://www.clublexus.com/forums/hybrid-technology/927537-rattle-gear-clatter-after-cold-soak.html hope you can find the issue and get it sorted.
  9. Hey Rick sorry to hear about the accident hope you're ok. Have to tried Ebay? Type in "Lexus LS600hl breaking" see what comes up Good luck with the search.
  10. Have you checked your brake calipers recently? Calipers are known for sticking which effects the wheel rotation and can end up using more fuel. Check your tyre pressures too. It could just be your driving, 500km is about 310 miles. I get about that from a full tank if a majority of my driving is short journeys. 330 miles (530km) seems to be the average for me driving steadily with a mixture of short and long journeys.
  11. I'll echo everyone else when it comes to engine mods, not much that can be done by the looks of it unless you're willing to spend some cash. It's a pretty quick car though when pushed especially with the PWR button activated. As for cosmetic mods there's plenty that can be done on both the interior and exterior. @ahmed24 has a great little blog with some very cool 250 upgrades https://is-250.blogspot.com/
  12. Does anyone know if its possible to unlock certain features on SE models? The Power folding mirrors for example on the SE-L models they fold/unfold when car is locked/unlocked I've heard the Carly OBD scanners allow you to unlock things like this on some cars, anyone done it with their 250? thanks
  13. The E10 thing just sounds like Lexus trying to cover their backs, mines an 08 so I can use E5 but the car does feel much better on premium fuel so I'm happy to continue using it until i'm priced out. One could argue that the IS is a bit plain, yes it has plenty of toys but it's not a drivers car at all IMO! I was in a 10plate Avensis the other day and it felt eerily similar to the IS they even look similar from the side/back (not sure if they use the same platform?) The IS is just a much nicer Toyota for the most part but there's absolutely nothing wrong with that! The Honda is definitely more "premium" than luxury but it's one of the best alternatives you can get for a similar price if you're willing to put up with FWD which most buyers don't really care about. A well specced E90 BMW is a nice place to be it's just a shame they ride harsh and are made with chocolate parts.
  14. @markeyszoo How much are 350's going for where you are?
  15. I would avoid the 220d. My dad had one for a year I used to drive it often. His didn't have any engine issues luckily but like others have said, clunky gearbox, turbo lag that makes the car dangerous at roundabout and junctions, an absolute pointless 6th gear that'll only work at 80+mph, and terrible fuel economy to top it off. Made an absolute racket at idle and the gearstick would shake like crazy. Only plus point is, it's very refined at cruise speeds (for a diesel). My dads was a few years old at the time, hate to think what they'd sound/drive like now with 100k plus miles. If you're looking for a solid Diesel car do yourself a favour and get a gen 8 Honda Accord 2.2i-dtec (EX) instead
  16. Fuel costs definitely are the reason why people are giving up on them, i think a lot of buyers snapped them up post lockdown (just before the used car market and lease prices went nuts), when people had spare cash from lockdown, petrol prices were reasonable and they weren't doin that many miles so could justify the cost. 6 cylinder BMW's and other big German cars were selling like hot cakes (the smart ones chose Lexus. 😉) Things eventually returned to "Normal" people found themselves out n about more, doin more miles. combine that with the rising price of...EVERYTHING and the fact that most were pre 08 cars which required E5 and it probably got harder to justify as a runaround. I'm assuming there's small percentage too that thought they were buying a fast sporty saloon and ended up eventually selling to try and scratch that itch. £110ish of E5 to fill the tank with a 330 mile range (driving like my grandad) isn't great all things considered but I'm happy to pay the price for now in return for a car that’s comfortable, heavy on toys and ridiculously reliable. It’s good to know where you stand with a car especially an old used one. There’s not many cars of this vintage you can say that about unfortunately. A service and oil change every year along with consumables, grease slide pins, occasional oil top ups and it'll happily chug along in comfort and silence 🤞 If I was to replace mine with anything right now it’d probably be a Gen 8 accord 2.0 which offers a similar package to the Lexus but with slightly better fuel economy.
  17. Its called Tony Banks they have a great reputation of making quality custom exhausts.
  18. Cleared it twice now. The first time it came back whilst driving about 15 miles. Cleared it again this morning after another few fault scans and I've done 1 short journey today (about 3 miles) @H3XME Thanks buddy. So when yours comes on do you just keep clearing it with the scan tool?
  19. Thanks guys. Plugged in the scanner and connected to torque pro via my phone. Performed a scan (multiple times) and it's not coming up with any error codes. There's a section where you can check the O2 sensors and according to the app everything is fine there too. It did allow me to clear the error (even though no error came up) and that removed the VSC light for a short while, but it came back on about 15 miles later. so I'm slightly more confused than I was before....The cars still running fine but I have noticed whilst I'm cruising sometimes there's a slight feel of the car slowing down like it's braking without me applying the brakes if that makes sense. It's only occasional but I can feel it when it happens. I've never noticed it before but not been looking out for errors so it might just be me.
  20. Thanks Guys I've replaced batteries in both key fobs, checked fuel cap and air intake as suggested still no joy. 😒 @agent_dess mileage is 83k so i'm hoping like yours it's just the Oxygen sensor and nothing more serious... I've ordered a Bluetooth obd scanner it arrives today so i'll keep you posted. - Anyone know where the OBD port is? - Is it still drivable in the meantime? it seems fine so far but id rather it not let me down on the motorway with the kids in the back.
  21. ahh ok, thanks Linas. So I'll need one of those code readers for that right? Will something like this do the job? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Foseal-Reader-Scanner-Display-Screen/dp/B07RQCP5PY/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=car+code+reader&qid=1650984400&sprefix=car+code%2Caps%2C93&sr=8-6
  22. Jumped in the car this afternoon to be greeted with the dreaded "check VSC" message on the dash. 🤦‍♂️ Traction and engine light are illuminated (not sure what it's trying to tell me), The car starts and drives fine and all electrics still work. I had a look at the engine and nothing seems out of the ordinary, (not that I know what looking for haha.) I did top up the oil though as needed but nothing changed unfortunately. Any ideas what it could be? what's the best/worst case scenario here? I always use shell V Power but my last 2 fill ups have been with Tesco's Momentum (99ron) could it related? Would you still drive the car in the meantime? like I said it seems fine, still silky smooth and shifts fine, (was serviced by Lexus in January) but I've only driven it 5 miles since the light came on... Any thoughts/advice would be much appreciated? Cheers guys
  23. Tough decision... The 250 will be thirstier but more practical has a more reliable engine/transmission combo, probably less to go wrong overall and you'll be getting better/more modern tech, The 450 is faster (much faster!) It's definitely not a sports car but coming from a Type R you'll appreciate the way this thing moves when you stamp your foot. Downsides? looks dated inside, with outdated tech, hybrid battery might be a weak point later down the line along with the CVT gearbox. The boot is tiny as the battery takes up most of the space. The sensible option would be the 250 especially if it's going to be used for family duties. You'd be getting something that looks feels and drives like a brand new car. I'd be very (very) tempted by the 450h but only if I had the budget to buy a well cared for one. 2010 or later, serviced by Lexus as they do a hybrid battery health check with every service which extends the warranty on the battery for another year or 10k miles. (until the car is 15 years old) I've not checked the MOT history but this one seems like great example of a 450h i'd be looking for... (have a look) Great problem to have though and cant really go wrong either way. Good luck, let us know what you decide. 😃
  24. It cant be done with the second Gen IS MM. I tired when I first got the car, there's no option to select it. only 3rd gen and beyond.
  25. Got my Car back from Lexus Today, £375 for a Major including the loan Car. (UX250h) @markeyszoo That's a bargain! Spoke to them about the 10 year+ warranty...It does exist 😀 It's £500 for a year, but it's not been rolled out across all dealerships. Seems only to be the ones further south at the moment that are offering it. person I spoke to doesn't know if its something that'll eventually make its way up here, either way Bolton Lexus (or Stockport) couldn't offer it to me. She said she knows Leicester have been offering it to some of their customers so might be worth phoning them. Can all be done over the phone apparently and once done car can be taken to any Lexus dealer in the UK.
