Parking Brake causing repetitive strain?
Tony1452 replied to Tony1452's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Thanks, if it was happening with my right foot then i might consider it a health issue. Months ago I put on here that the rubber pedal guard on the parking brake kept coming off. Somebody suggesting gluing it on, which I did with superglue. It still came off. I’ve been driving it since without the guard on it and I’m convinced it’s causing the strain to my tendon down to my foot without the protector. I’ve asked for the Lexus mechanic to fit a new rubber guard so that it remains on permanently. Hopefully that might help. At the moment I am pushing on the bare metal. -
Parking Brake causing repetitive strain?

My drive is on a slight incline and would definitely result in a disaster if I didn’t apply the brake. I shall see what Lexus think when the car is serviced next week. -
I’ve had the car three years now and have never experienced any problems with the parking brake, but over the past couple of months I’ve been experiencing pain in my left foot. I’m beginning to think it’s caused because of the amount of pressure I have to put on the PB in order to park up. Releasing it is easier. Has anybody else experienced this? It’s in for its 100k service next week, even though it has only covered 45k miles. Think I’ll give Lexus a ring to see if there is a pressure problem with the PB.

I have a plan with Emac, which I took out when I bought mine three years ago. The salesman gave me a copy of the offer which included four annual services for £41.75 each month, which I took out before inflation struck. Next service is due August. Each time the car is serviced, there is no charge for collection and returning it to me. Lexus always contact me to advise when my service and MOT (combined) is due. Always ensuring that I have the car serviced and MOT’d in plenty of time, I rang Lexus to arrange a suitable date for collection. The lass on the reception advised me that it would be £55 for the collection service. I told her that I’d never been charged for this service since they’d been servicing the car. Her reply was, ‘it must be in your contact, then.’ To be honest, I’d never received the terms of my contract from Emac so I recently contacted them. I received the terms, which basically covers what is included and what is not. Nowhere in the contract does it include free collection as part of the deal. The monthly payments cease in December, this year and I still have one more service in 2025. The thing about these contracts is, I’ve got peace of mind and know that the hybrid battery is under warranty for each year as long as Lexus check it over and the car is serviced by them. I doubt that I will ever get such a good deal from Lexus these days. The car’s still only on 45k miles and drives just as good as when I bought it. I certainly won’t be changing it. In fact it will probably be my last car at my age. Sad to say.

Outside, rear view mirror’s puzzle.

Evening all, When I first purchased my Lexus, three years ago, I’d unlock the drivers door and both side mirrors would open automatically, which my wife and I found to be quite a novelty. I’d lock the car and I’m almost certain that the mirrors would fold in. This feature lasted for a few months and then it stopped working; this might have happened because I began using the adjustment button on the door to close the mirrors. The automatic opening switch for the side mirrors is a feature which is not fitted to this model. There certainly isn’t an auto switch amongst the switches, just the two manual switches. To be honest, I’ve never let it bother me as it’s just as easy to use the manual switch which opens or closes the mirrors. I am baffled as to why something which isn’t naturally a function of this model was working and then stopped. I’m just wondering, despite the fact I’ve owned the car for three years, if anybody else has encountered a similar situation. -
Yes, my excess was increased too. Believe me our bungalow, even though we live in a decent area, is well covered by security devices and a full alarm system -just in case. I’m not one for tempting fate and enjoy having peace of mind. One never knows…

They’re even at it with my home insurance cover, who sent me an email, crying poverty because they are having to increase the rates this year. I’ve not made a claim for many years and yet they have increased this year’s premium by almost a third. Needless to say, I found a company on Compare the Market who have quoted me less than a third of this year’s quote. So, I’m back to where it should have been before the ridiculous increased quote. I’m currently with Toyota Insurance for my car, which went up significantly last August from my first year with them, but that said, they were still the least expensive on the market. I’m expecting it to rocket this year though. My car tax is going up by 100% this year, from a tenner a year to twenty quid. Think we are all in the same boat here. I’ve been saving up hard since I found out about the increase from the Chancellor, whoever that was at the time. There’ll be another one coming along soon to screw us. Happy days, not.

Right…the director of the wheel refurbishing business, examined with me the broken TPMS and in fairness to him, I had to agree that the batteries in the part are not made to last forever 7-10 years. So, I pointed me in the direction of a company he uses and offered to pay for them to supply and fit a replacement TPMS which would be a clone from the existing TPMS. The job was completed this morning to my satisfaction. The wheel refurbishing people have footed the bill. After fitting the part, the warning light on my dash went off almost immediately. So, all sorted now. The technician has held onto the original part, because he told me that they never put them back inside the customers car as the part can interfere with the new TPMS. Not something I’ve ever thought about. Strange, but true. He told me that should the cloning method ever be required again, it will have to be done from the original part. A member of my family will pick it up in his car to avoid any problems. He added that the cloning method has become far less expensive than replacing an original sensor, which can vary in cost. As long as it works for the for a few years, I’ll be happy. Thanks for all replies and interest.

I shall find out when I go back in the morning. Will report on here the results of my complaints. Thanks. Much appreciated comments. I’m not going to allow them to get away with it. I don’t think the lass on the reception has any idea of the replacement part, she will do in the morning as will the proprietor of the business. She was the only person on site when I collected my car. Perhaps the proprietor had disappeared on purpose as she stipulated that my car would be ready at 4:15, maybe giving her boss the opportunity to disappear.

Cheers! I had a look at a video, which shows how these things are replaced. It’s actually very easy for a competent tyre fitter, although it does have to be recoded via the necessary technology device. The fellow who installs the replacement TPMS, does say that batteries in them usually need replacing every 6/7 years. Be that as it may, my car has only achieved 41k miles- although it is now ten years old. Doesn’t look it, nor drive like a ten year old car, I must say.

Evening all, I had some surface damage on two of my alloys, so I took it to an alloy wheel repair company and the two wheels were treated and resprayed. I called in this afternoon to collect my car and pay for the work. The lass on the reception apologised and handed to me a broken tyre pressure monitor. She explained that the guy who did the job broke it when trying to get the tyre off. I paid for the work and drove home, expecting the part to be a reasonable price. Well it isn’t. It’s £181 to supply/fit and recode at my local Lexus. I shall return to the workshop in the morning to see if I can get them to pay for the damaged part. I’m not holding out much hope, especially these days The repair to the alloys with vat was less than the replacement valve. It was pouring with rain when I collected my car and only when I arrived home did I notice that the two Lexus dust cap OE parts have been replaced with black, plastic dust caps. The Lexus dust caps don’t come cheap either. I had a job done there a few years ago, when I had all four alloys on a BMW repaired and a good job was done then. I don’t know what went wrong today. The girl on the reception thought it was a weakened with age part. Needless to say, I’m not very happy.

I purchased an SD card from these people, sometime during the summer for 2022/2023. It updated very easy, unfortunately it stopped indicating that I was driving towards a Road Safety Camera. So, i reinstalled the info from my original SD card and the system is back to normal. That said, since early this year, there are the new 20 MPH speed limit roads everywhere locally. The card I was sent doesn’t have any details of the recent speed limit changes loaded into it. So, I’d suggest you check with satnavishop first. They reply to all messages. Good luck!

The Parking Brake, Rubber Cover.

Thanks for that. Perhaps it does need replacing, so for a fiver I shall give it a try.
