But none of my wheels are stock. Both my wheels are aftermarket. My 18" winter set is 8J ET40 . My 19" summer set is 8.5J ET40. So I'm hoping the calipers will fit.
-
I took a look into my 18 inch wheels. To me there seems to be enough space in there. I didn't measure but what do you think? Made some photos:
-
I took a quick look and it doesn't seem the IS350, which uses this very same larger brakes, has any differences in the vacuum assistance. Do you know otherwise? Plus, has the people reporting this to be a good upgrade here on the thread updated anything else in the system besides discs, pads and calipers?
-
Yeah, I have read and heard conflicting info about drilled and slolted brakes. Like anything else, it seems to be a compromise, with good and bad sides. But for the type of driving I do, normal driving and no tracking, plus the mileage, I doubt I would see the potential negative sides.
-
That's interesting. Why would you say so?
-
Yeah, I hear you about the disadvantages of slotted + drilled. But the slotted + drilled carbon coated Rotingers look sweet. 😄 Kind of like this: But they also make them slotted only or just plain. Given the mileage I do with the Lexus though, I doubt it would be an issue for me, unless they are really, really loud. The warping, I'm not tracking the car and last year I did about 4000KM/2500 miles in the Lexus.

For the splash shields I'm considering this: HERTH+BUSS JAKOPARTS Spritzblech Bremsscheibe Ankerblech Abdeckung Rechts Vorne 4029416409616 | eBay It seems to be an aftermarket replacement, which corresponds to the correct part number. Hopefully it will fit.

Thanks. My intention was not to buy from LPD, as I'm in the EU. I was just using LPD to narrow down part numbers, as it's easy to find parts on their website, based on the diagrams. 🙂 What I have found around here for the rear discs is 28 Euros per disc. Brand is Sakura. Never heard. But it's 291mm x10mm solid discs. Noted about Rotinger. I wanted to give it a shot because it came highly recommended by somebody who has run them for years. I thought, how bad can it be? 🙂 I guess calipers and pads are the most important. The only thing that could happen is the Rotingers wearing out too fast right. But dangerous or malfunction I would say probably not (fingers crossed. 😁) . But apart from Brembo, what else would you recommend? Because I checked autodock's EU site and I recognize none of the Brands either. But they don't sell Brembo front 334mm discs there. Only the 310mm rear ones, which are the wrong size for my car too. Interestingly, on autodoc's site, I chose IS350 first, but there was no 334mm front discs listed for it. So I switched to GS350 to find the larger discs.

Are there differences between the G300 and GS350/IS350 discs and calipers?
-
Great. Reason I asked is because I didn't find any of the part numbers posted. Instead I found these for the GS front discs: Lexus GS Phase 3 Front Brake Discs — 43512-22261 & 43516-22011 GSP3 (lexuspartsdirect.co.uk) It is the correct 334mm dia. But I don't see info about the thickness. The Rotinger discs I'm looking at are 30mm thick. Goolging the part number though, the discs seem to be 30mm thick. So I guess the Rotinger will fit. For the heat shields I found these: Lexus GS Phase 3 N/S Front Brake Heat Shield — 47782-22200 GSP3 (lexuspartsdirect.co.uk) Lexus GS Phase 3 O/S Front Brake Heat Shield — 47781-22200 GSP3 (lexuspartsdirect.co.uk) Are they the correct ones and wil fit the IS250 with the above 334mm discs? Finally, for the rear solid IS250 discs to replace mine, I found this: Lexus IS Phase 2 Rear Brake Discs — 42431-30280 ISP2 (lexuspartsdirect.co.uk) They look vented in the photo but googling, the part number seems to refer to a rear Lexus IS250 disc with 291mm dia. and 10mm thick. So seems to be correct I guess.

Are we allowed to post links to Lexuspartsdirect ?

Makes sense about the part numbers. My 18" winter wheels are 8J as well but ET40 as opposed ET45. I filled this data in a wheel size comparison tool pitching the standard F-Sport 18" 8J ET45 which clears the calipers against my 18" 8J ET40 and the calculator says this: "Brakes: 100% clear (leaves even more room than OE)" . If this is true, maybe there are good chances my 18" winter wheels will clear the calipers. I know it depends on the internal design of the wheels. But if ET40 leaves more room than ET45, it's at least a good start: With my summer wheels I'm thinking it will be no problem. They are both larger and wider at 19" and 8.5J ET40.

By the way, your car has the F-Sport 18" rims right? Surprised the fit is tight as I think the F-sport brakes are just the GS ones?
-
Thanks. I will need solid then, as I really don't want to change the rear calipers. Do you see any loss in keeping the solid ones at the rear? Will check lexuspartsdirect for their numbers. Those are GS350 discs? I had found different numbers on lexuspartsdirect: 43512-22261 & 43516-22011. As the numbers are so close, maybe this is a variation of the same discs? Those are for the 334mm ones.
-
Thanks. Are those ventilated or solid? Would you have the part number for the front upgrade ones?
-
Thanks. None of my wheels are stock. So I will have to check the ETs. For the rear discs, if I need to change the calipers too, I will just keep it as is. The fronts do the work anyhow.
-
For the discs, if OEM, I heard the AWD discs won't fit? Is this the correct OEM discs for the IS250 upgrade? 43512-22261 & 43516-22011.
-
I'm also debating whether I cut the back shield plates or buy new GS350 ones. I couldn't find the part numbers yet to price them new.
-
Thanks. That's great to know the weight balances it out. 🙂 I don't think I will go OEM discs. Somebody who does drifting recommended Rotinger discs as a cost effective but great performance option. As they have models for the GS350 in 334mm which are both ventilated, slotted and perforated they look very nice as well as a bonus. Carbon coated. They are 334mm dia. and 30mm thick, so same dimensions as OEM as far as I know. Seems like they would fit. Have you heard of them? Yes, my rear discs are solid. Do you know their dimensions? Rotinger also has the same discs for the rear, in 310mm x 18mm. Would they fit the rear? Price is not really an issue compared to OEM. Although not sure it's worth it larger/heavier discs at the rear for acceleration? For the front I'm just a little concerned if they will fit under my winter wheels, which are 18". My summer wheels are 19" so I guess enough space there.

Sorry about bumping an old thread up. But this thread came up on a google search about brake upgrades for the IS250. So I thought I might as well ask it here rather than starting a duplicate thread. 🙂 MOT time is coming and I will need to do my brakes. Since I'm not 100% happy with my brakes, I was thinking of upgrading to the GS350 front calipers and 334mm rotors. My question to those who have done the upgrade is, do you feel any difference in the speed/performance of your IS250? The GS350 rotors are heavier and the calipers are probably heavier too. This is unsprung weight. So I wonder if you feel any difference? The rear I will leave the same rotors and calipers. So just do the pads. Even though I seem to have the smaller one which comes with the IS250. It seems some come with 310mm. My rear ones are definitely smaller. But I think the front will be enough. Thanks as always gentlemen. 🙂

Thanks. I heard something about the hack with the wire, to reset the VSC or something, concerning theC1210 and C1336 codes. I will have to search. But can any damage be done to the car, if I get this shorting wrong?
-
Hi Vlad. I have not tried that. The braking is easy to do and I can definitely try. The slide on the roundabout I'm not sure I'm that daring. 🙂 But I have had rear wheel spin on hard take offs. So TC really seems off.

Hi everybody. So I finally have an update on this. So much has happened in the last couple of months, including the passing of somebody in the family. I didn't have time to attend to this. As I barelly needed the car, as I'm in home office, plus my wife has a car, and my Lexus drives basically normally, the very few times I needed the car, I just drove it and it has been fine. Only the VSC CHECK light is ON and the traction control seems to be off. But I have now managed to have it looked with Techstream and got C1210 Zero Point Calibration of Yaw Rate Sensor undone & C1336 Zero Point Calibration of Deceleration Sensor undone Errors . I took a look online and found something about the VSC needing to be recalibrated and not being hard to do oneself? What do you gentlemen with more experience with these car make of it? As I said, if it wasn't for the check lights ON, I would never know there is anything wrong. Car drives normally and is stronger than ever. Thanks again for your help. 🙂

Interestingly, I was just speaking to a IS250 owner yesterday who mentioned the possibility of the alternator causing the VSC Check light and that maybe the garage dropped oil on it when they changed the oil. But if it was the alternator, I would most likely be having electric problems, bad starts etc? Car starts and drives normally. The only difference is the TC is off, so it's very easy to spin the rear wheels on take off.
