Also a valid hypothesis. The outside car was in fact ceramic coated, not my choice. Indoor one not. I'm guessing that those ceramic coating chemicals warn to not get on rubber and the person applying doesn't read instructions or cares.

Test drove a premium plus. Well put together, but interior not in line with the asking price. Sound insulation OK, but other lexi quieter. Sales even commented that lexus didn't stuff it with sound deadening material due to weight. Instrument cluster is a joke. They used the exact same screen size as in the ES as far as I can tell without the embellishments, so looks cheap, and has lost functionality. Lots of what you could do and see and adjust using steering wheel controls has been moved to the infotainment (even tyre pressure)! But worst of all for me was the horrendous reflection you get in the infotainment screen of the rear window. The second the car switched to night mode at dusk, the reflection rendered the screen unusable. Lexus sales solution, put the car always in day mode. Seriously?! I really wanted to like it, given some of the prices we're seeing, why not grab one that has depreciated by 30% in less than a year. No. Just no.

I'm thinking that is the problem. We have two cars, one in garage one on drive. The one parked outside has been having this issue in freezing temps. Now its warmer here, it stopped. The indoor car, not a peep even in sub zero. My guess is water getting in and freezing, causing either a temporary problem or real damage. Hence the vaseline fix, it stops water ingress around the rubber gasket.

Curious, do you park indoors overnight or outdoors?

That'll help with relay thefts, but as Antony above wrote, that'll not help with canbus thefts.

Sadly, I reported this to lexus when I picked up mine back in 2021. Looks like they haven't bothered to tell their dealers or whoever does the fill to not be stingy morons. Get rid of what is in the tank completely, then fill with proper winter screen wash. After that you'll be fine.

JLR are being loud about retrofiting "all" their 2018-onward models "The company says keepers of post-2018 Range Rovers, Defenders, Discoverys and Jaguars should be eligible for the security updates." Bold emphasis mine. Was in a JLR dealership yesterday, and yes they are retrofitting LR vehicles, but not Jaguars according to their sales and service departments. While both J &LR share the same systems, they are addressing LRs as they are the most visible. Jag owners are SOL despite having cars with the same vulerabilities. Sound familiar? RX thefts visible (top 10) = fit free plates. Every other lexus with same vulnerability = SOL. Prime example of bottom line market economy. None of us should be surprised by Lexus behaviour. Before someone points out, the whole cost, something for nothing soliloquy. I had offered to pay for a modified plate/whatever solution they come up with. Answer was still no. Bye bye Lexus.

Would be interested in hearing about your experience

Go to the ES section and read a couple of member experiences, yes they work, but you end up with thousands in damage to the wiring loom, dash...etc. as well as multiple theft attempts. Even newer models with canbus encryption are being targeted. Lexus need to do a loud public recall, a quiet fix will not solve it. Otherwise, sell and move on, or let it get stolen and get the insurance payout and move on.

Air tags are not immune. Since they've been linked to being used by stalkers, you can scan for tags that do not belong to you to counter the stalking problem. There's even an android app from apple to detect them. The only thing so far that hasn't been countered is a VHF tracker, they still need to physically tear it out. They are dormant so can't be detected, you only activate them once the car is gone. Although thiefs are wise to them too, and tear through wiring sometimes especially if it's a second theft and the first time the car was located. Hence the whole leave be car somewhere routine is still done.

Congratulations! That interior quality looks second to none. Couple of questions; have you been immunizing your cars against the canbus thefts, which method if yes? Any further details on the new acquisition, mileage, price... if you don't mind sharing?

Come on Lexus, follow JLR's example...
peniole replied to Mincey's topic in Lexus General Discussions
The first reply to it cracked me up "I'd suggest something like a uniquely cut piece of small metal that has to be physically inserted into the vehicle before allowing ignition. I'm a bit weird though." -
Even if he didn't activate the sim/link app. Surely lexus can do that remotely in an emergency or theft especially if you have a police crime reference number.

Is yours an MY23? According to my dealer that's the first year the fix was applied and the bus was encrypted. If not, had you turned off the keyless feature from the car itself?
-
Why is it I can find multiple videos of people on youtube being able to turn the wheel with those diskloks installed? Is the special sauce the "official protective cover"? Is it some kind of extra slick velvet that makes it spin instead of grab?

Looks like a modified/replica of a Porsche 356 speedster. The rear intakes are new.

8 grills. A couple of them have two cones, can't remember which two though, either top right and left or more likely lower front door ones. Either twitter mid combo, or mid woofer combo.
-
That doesn't sound right. That rear parcel one is the subwoofer, and when turned up high can even rattle the shelf.

Well I've been looking to jump ship, so have been looking at a few competitors. Liked the deals, and test drove an Ioniq 5. Not bad for a Hyundai effort. Not the high quality materials in Lexus, but I suspect most of the price goes to that 77kWh battery. Then I found this ( I know how to pick em, eh?) 🤦♂️ https://www.mylondon.news/news/motoring/motoring-news/owners-say-50000-electric-vehicles-27948765

I got quite a different response to my recent letter, in which I cite our forum members, despite having secondary protective measures, still being targeted along with the financial fallout. That many of them have moved on to other manufacturers. I posed the question "are you developing a fix for the ES, or should I move on too?" The response included the below: "...we are looking into development of protective measures to protect our models, however we do not yet have any details to share on this for the moment that we can release publicly" What do you make of that in writing? He continues with: "Regrettably at this time we do not have any direct products or specific measures that we can offer for you in additional protection for the Lexus ES model"
-
You may be safe. Lexus quietly encrypted their canbus from MY23 forward. The problem in that last statement is the word quietly. Which means you may still be targeted, with a £5600 repair bill as above. Without a loud recall immunizing all non encrypted cars, I see no end to this. Collective action is the only way I see to force lexus' hands.

Not an adequate solution, just a delay. They're also only doing it for the RX, all other lexus products of the same years are just as vulnerable. Head over to the ES subforum and read through the thefts, and attempted thefts. Lexus has dropped the ball badly on this one. It will cost them reputation and sales.

Uprating reverse lamps........

If it's a specific location you're struggling in, don't forget to consider local/non-car solutions like a motion floodlight in your drive. -
They weren't suggesting it isn't a good fix, they came right out and said it. It is effective in South Africa because it was tackling the different problem of carjackings. Those are very time sensitive and adding a couple of minutes is enough to scare the perpetrators off, have police on scene, people helping...etc. Add a couple of minutes to a thief in the middle of the night is neither here nor there. No sadly the current plates are not compatible with the ES, I would have tried them if they were. As mentioned by David another layer, but not a real fix when they only delay.
