Yes, thanks for that Steve, I'm familiar with the process.  My question was more directed at your costs and time spent.  But if you'd rather not make that public then I shall of course fully understand. 🙂

....it took 7hrs for a full recon and a single pass with the DA, and as for costs .. hard to quantify, zaino say you use 1oz per car but the Lexus is big..but I'd say around £40-£60.. the turtle Wax done in one is £30 for 500ml. Zanio is not cheap but a little goes a long way...and can be used in full sun . Costs a bit to buy the products initially but they last

    Very impressive result Steve. 👌

As a matter of interest, aside from the labour charge (?!) obviously, what do you reckon the materials cost for that level of detailing and how long did it take you?  Apportion if you didn't use the lot as presumably any remaining Zaino stuff can be kept for future use if shelf life permits.

Just interested for I choose not to clean mine as I have my detailer visit about every 3 months so a cost comparison would be helpful - not that I'd ever consider doing it myself at my time of life. 😉

Lots of info here... A little goes a long way..

    Prep is key with detailing..

Is it a recent car (4-5 years old) or older (10-13 years old)? Just curiosity. I am looking for a 2008/11 GS450H in Ireland and my wife still thinks it would be too old, so I wonder if here members are still buying 13 year old cars.

My son in law has just got a 11 yrs old IS250 the . 1 owner with 16k warranted miles . Apart from needing new tyres and a wheel bearing that is humming it's like a new car..it just finding good cars these days, but they are out there..

Tell the crooked Dealer that he has to repair under the Statutory Warranty and if he refuses you`ll involve Trading Standards.

As a last resort get the money back plus a sum for the tyres, don`t deal with him again and give him a lousy and honest  review on his website and Social Media too.

To say a wheel bearing only needs replacement when a wheel will not rotate is a laugh and sums the dealer up... agree with your comments..

  6. To add to this my son in law bought a Lexus recently.. the garage gave 30 day warranty.. the wheel bearing is now humming.. he is within the 30 day period but the garage says a wheel bearing only needs replacement when the wheel will not rotate...he wants the dealer to pay the £580 for the repair as he loves the car,but they are only offering a refund, which is ok but since purchase he's had 4 brand new tyres fitted.. ...

I have seen the car of my dreams..

Due to health problems the 3+ hours drive is beyond me.

It is from an approved Lexus franchise not a main dealer. I'm assured a Lexus (not 3rd party) 12 month warranty will be applied (so I can take it to a nearer dealership for any warranty issues) and it would have a new MOT done, a full service (major), and the 150 point checks etc. It would be driven to my home. Under distance selling rules, I could return the car if there was a problem with it. I'm guessing I'd need to involve a third party should that happen, but the option is there.

I'll be asking for certain details that were agreed over the phone to be confirmed in writing (email).

Has anybody got experience doing this?

    How risky is it?

PS I have searched for months for such an example within a fair radius locally without success, hence ....

We bought a Focus during lockdown in January.. from Trustford.. the car was at up north and was trailer transported down to Tamworth Trustford our nearest dealership.. we basically did a deal over the phone  all pending viewing the car.. and drove it away within the hour..it had the 14 day return policy( money back guarantee) if we didn't like it.. we had no issues...alot of dealers are doing similar..

  8. We'll today turned into a farce ... Picked up an amp from the scrappers yesterday.. having gone through 247spares.co.uk  gave the details reg etc of the car and collected.. today the auto electrician arrives and the original amp is working.....so he cannot fault find.. on top of that the part from the scrappers is a different amp.. original amp p/n ends 150.. the one from the scrappers ends 110.. completely different connections.... One of those days... So back to the scrappers for a refund ...🤬🤬🤬

  9. Well... The audio was hit n miss yesterday.. disconnected the amp ... gave it a blow dry with the hairdryer, disconnected the  Battery and checked all fuses.. reconnect everything and it worked.. then didn't... Left it over night and today it's worked every time we have tried it...so see how long it lasts..

Has anyone done a mod to stop the amp from condensating/ cutting out.. I've seen in YouTube someone repositioning the amp in the boot above the plastic tray.. didn't know if anyone had insulated the area...?

We don't know why it's started working again.. we removed and checked fuses. And disconnect the amp.. but we have not had the amp out . Tbh it's really clean and dry in the compartment.. the car has only 16k miles on the clock..

  11. Well, we went for the car,( son in law's car) but found a fault on the way home, the audio is faulty, the garage have been informed and are willing to pay for the fix, as per my other thread the fault is no sound, disconnected the Battery and refitted, the sound works,, but only for a short period..so looking at damp issues as per the web.. the car is one owner, flsh, with only 16k miles ( warranted / confirmed by main dealer)

It's likely to be the amp but not a certainty. Try pushing the amp connector/wires to see if it's a common connection issue. Search for similar audio issues here and you will get a feel for whether it's likely to be the amp or not. If inspection of the car and its history reveals no other problems then it wouldn't concern me, indeed it might be an opportunity to acquire a good car at a discount.

Everything about the car is spot on . Just no sound from the speakers.....🤔
