  1. If the reliability is as good as claimed and experienced by Lexus owners, then why not. In years past I could cheerfully take much lesser cars well into 6 figures and apart from an Alfa Romeo, they all made it without any complications. I would also say they were all serviced by the book except the Alfa, lesson learned! Additionally, these were always new cars driven only by me.
  2. So are you saying they fixed the Canbus problem by encryption or some such method, or did they put a mechanical plate over the access point?
  3. I'm kind of hoping Lexus will do their best to "advertise" they are now ready, willing and able to fix this significant problem in an effort to dissuade burglar Bill from bothering with our cars. It does seem as if JLR are now reducing the theft rate of their products, but yes I agree for a while longer the Lexus brand will be a prime target and the sooner this problem is resolved the better.
  4. Just thought I would ask whether anyone has had any related contact with/from their dealer? I, too, was supposed to hear from mine around now, and perhaps during the course of next week I may well give mine a prod unless others might be aware of any change to the Lexus scheduling.
  5. Now steady on Chris, you don't want to undo all your good work.😁
  6. The following video is focused on installing a front camera, played through the head unit. I thought it might be useful as it shows how to access the head unit. Quite a task to get to it but in the hands of a pro it looks doable. Hope this helps in the quest. Beat Sonic
  7. The battery does seem to deplete quicker than you might imagine, and I would say 4 weeks before you should be thinking about running the engine or charging through some means or another. In fairness, I do have a dash cam "on guard" and a tracker, neither of which should be pulling much power, but quite what else is running I wouldn't be too sure. By way of an example, I had an 85-mile journey yesterday and upon arriving home and letting the battery settle for something like 6 hours, my tracker was showing 12.78 volts and then this morning at 6 it is showing 12.71. So overnight a 0.07 volt drop which might not sound much but in reality translates to something like a 5% state of charge drop. However, in practice I can't use those figures to accurately define volt drop given the relatively warm weather yesterday and the current 3.7 degree temperature! After a 2-week holiday and assuming the battery was fully charged you should be able to confidently start the motor without any problems, although I would still suggest after 4 weeks you should consider hooking up a battery maintainer just to be sure.
  8. Hello Tom Out of interest, where was the leaf, and how did you extract it? I ask because on Sunday last, I too noticed a "leafy" noise coming from my LC's fan. I haven't had time to investigate but f you could provide some clues I'd be grateful.
  9. Pretty much what my dealer emailed me yesterday, no plates for the LC but will keep me "updated on any further security updates" as they are received from Lexus. I'm still hopeful the encryption technique will provide a solution, but when seems a bit of a guess right now.
  10. My thoughts exactly. I have to say I was in contact with my dealer (Gatwick) and they are just waiting on parts to get the ball rolling. I suspect it could be some months before all cars are equipped with whatever they need. I would not be at all surprised to see Lexus phase it in with servicing if that is viable to all concerned. Once a goodly number of cars have been "fixed" then hopefully the lowlifes will move on or better still get rounded up and incarcerated.
  11. Exactly what I will be doing, but for the time being I will continue to use my wife's car as a physical barrier. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes to arrange a visit and also how long before insurers acknowledge its problem solved, albeit I think I already know the answer to that!
  12. You'd like to think this might shame Lexus into action, but being realistic, it does seem they sell very few cars here in the UK. I only have figures for 2022 when they sold a mere, 9034 cars. Is this a sustainable market share, or could they afford to bow out gracefully? If the former then surely Lexus would want to do all it can to inspire confidence in their product, if the latter could we see Lexus disappear from the UK. Frankly, I suspect the former scenario, but let's see what Lexus has to say for itself later today.
  13. Very interesting to read the comments and observations given I have just connected with a Samsung tag my disabled brother wears around his neck. My sister has been "tracking" him for some time now but it is only in the last few days I have connected via the "Smart Things" app. I've got to say I am well impressed with how it works and given its size, I'd reckon you could hide it where burglar Bill will never find or suspect it. For thirty or so quid it's got to be worth a punt.
  14. As Phil above said, do your best to report as you find them and once the council is notified they then have a duty to log a pot hole. Importantly if anyone subsequently puts in a claim they cannot plead ignorance and say they knew nothing of the offending hole. It might also be the case that your new found "pothole" has already been reported which in turn will make your claim far easier to establish. I typically use "Fill that hole" who in turn report a hole to the responsible council whilst physically displaying its whereabouts on a map. The responsible council is then aware and must inspect/resolve. Surrey County Council also has a reporting facility but frankly I wouldn't trust them as far as I can throw them and invariably after I have reported by "Fill that hole", paint markings of one colour or another is applied. There is then a duty to get the hole or defect repaired in a given time frame. Some of these so called pot holes are more like cave entrances and I frequently see traffic cones inside them to help drivers to avoid. In regards road maintenance, then SCC are bad but West Sussex Council are now worse still. Chalwood could be in either councils area of responsibility a fact that will be established when you file a report by the likes of "Fill that hole". I sincerely hope you get some satisfication and that the responsible council don't play too many silly games as is their normal want!
  15. I believe providing it has had a service, be it full or intermediate, then the Relax warranty still applies. I stand to be corrected on that, but I have had some warranty work done since my last service (intermediate rather than a full) and with no issues being raised by Lexus or my dealer.
  16. I couldn't agree more with you Phil, a full-blown service is in my view simply not necessary, and I have to say my Lexus dealer agreed with me. In theory, and according to age, it should have had a 60K service with just under 11k on the clock! Last time around we agreed an intermediate service, especially so because it had a full service at something like 5K miles followed by 2 intermediate services. In reality, it has had 6 oil changes over 11k miles, new filter each time, new air filters twice etc. I'll make a judgement call come July this year, but this car has had far more services than is necessary.
  17. I came across the following video earlier today, and it just makes you wonder what hope is there? I'm sure its probably been posted before, but for those that didn't see it first time around (including me), then watch and weep!
  18. Hello Bob Is that a turntable that your car is on?
  19. Is that per month as in 12 months or per month as in 24 months? If the former i.e. £1188 then I presume that's for one minor and one major service. If the latter, I think I'd have passed on that "plan".
  20. Could this link provide you the necessary answer? Key programming Also, a very quick request on Google seems to suggest there are also others who can assist.
  21. Are you happy that you have taken the "additional steps" but still have an insurance premium that goes up regardless? For the life of me, I cannot understand why Lexus can't solve this problem by a software fix or indeed a hardware solution.
  22. You're right, it can and does drive you potty! The noise can appear to originate from the offside but can also manifest itself from the nearside, albeit the former tends to be more usual. BTW, well done for getting hold of the "TSB" which I believe was created by Lexus Australia!
  23. The brace runs across the car from B pillar to B pillar. The connection to the B pillar(s) is by a "floating" attachment that tightens the two elements as the brace bolts are nipped up. However, sometimes (albeit it very rarely) no amount of tightening is sufficient and there is very slight movement in the attachment technique which in turn allows flex in the body resulting in a click or knock noise under certain loading circumstances.
  24. I'm pretty sure I can help you with this. I can tell you straight away, this is almost certainly to do with the body brace that runs across the car and situated under the rear seats. Essentially, it might need tightening or just possibly, shall we say, a little more intervention. Take it back to the dealer and advise that Lexus HQ are aware of this problem and assuming you have the benefit of the "Relax" warranty, they will fix this foc. Do not be fobbed off by your dealer because this is known about and will be covered by Lexus. The following photographs hopefully gives some insight as to where this brace is situated and as mentioned it runs across the car. If you can sense the noise is coming from the rear passenger seat on the offside, then it is that side that needs investigating. Obviously if the nearside then that's where the problem is. Conceivably it could be both sides but it is usually offside. More than happy to provide further details if you pm me.
  25. Perhaps some context is needed. One stolen LC out of circa 520 or in percentage terms 0.19%, hardly a commonly stolen car. With the insatiable demand for SUV's or their ilk, then the LC is unlikely to be at the top of the shopping list and I'd further suspect the one stolen was something of an aberration.
