  1. I'm not quite sure why some think the price is dropping. Currently, on Autotrader, the lowest price 500 is £56.5k and £57.5K for the 500h. When I cast my mind back to two key points in my ownership i.e. when I bought the car last June and again to this January, these values are both well above those then asking prices. The evidence would tend to suggest prices are still on the up and I would further add inflation affects prices of all goods and cars either new or used will be no exception to this fact. Judge for yourself and have a trawl around new car prices let alone used prices. I recall how many people laughed at the additional VED for cars over £40K only to now find themselves caught in yet another tax trap. Look at a now £30K car and factor 10%/pa inflation and lo and behold in 3 years time the price will be £40K. As with the personal income tax allowance, lifetime pension allowance and inheritance allowance to name a few, the £40K threshold is set to remain fixed till 2026, and I suspect beyond........
  2. Having just insured my LC 3 weeks before it was due to renew it seems to me one still has to play the insurance game. My premium in the event has reduced on last year's figure, so happy days. I renewed or to be more precise perpetuated this via Confused because I ended up insuring with my current insurer! Shortly thereafter, I received the official renewal notice independent of Confused and from the self same insurer, only to see their asking price was significantly up on last year's premium and up on what I had just insured via Confused! Bizarrely my same "then and now" insurer sent me a NCB notice as if I were taking my business elsewhere which of course I am not. I also checked with the insurer that nothing had gone amiss, only for them to confirm all is in order and that they were unable to offer an explanation as to why this should have happened. Critically, it genuinely does seem one has to insure or re-insure 3 weeks before the existing policy expires. This is something numerous sites suggest and I will be putting this to the test again next month when I have to insure another car I own. As a footnote, I understand car insurance is less expensive this year given average mileages are down (and I suspect will remain so) in the current fuel price era.
  3. Really pleased for you Alan, and I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Interesting to see that you had a fair number of Jags. Got to say I had 2 prior to my LC and loved both of them but I always thought I was driving on borrowed time before they let me down. Going forwards, I'm sure you'll experience the same positive vibes the Lexus generates.
  4. I guess you need to somehow check if there is any run out in the discs, albeit not an easy thing to do if you don't have the right equipment. Hopefully with some ingenuity you can jury-rig something that will provide a clue. Must say I would be surprised if the dis(s) were warped and all the more reason to rule them out in the first instance.
  5. Came across this on another Lexus forum and wondered if it might be of interest. Seems there's far more carbon fibre in these cars than one might have first imagined.
  6. Len, I'm with you on that and probably the simplest solution unless, of course, it is not physically possible.
  7. If it's any help, I had some BMW M wheels painted in a chrome finish. The paint did a very good job of giving the illusion they were chromed, additionally the wheel barrels were painted black. The whole effect and the finish was superb. The problem as I see it with the 21 inch LC wheels is that they have a polished and a painted finish on the same wheel face. I dare say some wheel refurbers would be able/prepared to paint say a chrome finish and black where required. All a bit of a faff and I dare say expensive, and of course all four wheels would need to be done. Out of interest, the car you described sounds very much like one I looked at over a year ago. Was it red and with a sport spec?
  8. I too cannot see why being a convertible should warrant a more frequent oil change but perhaps this link might throw some light on the matter. Oil service interval
  9. Aside from my LC, we have two of these in the "family". Bought one purely as a runabout and the wife loved it so much she sold her very highly specced Mini Cooper S and bought an all but new Jazz hybrid. Great cars and capable of carrying vast loads and even full size bikes once the rear "magic" seats are raised. So don't worry Steve you're in good company and clearly a man of taste 😂
  10. Could indeed be scary stuff 😂 but let's not rule it out as a possibility.
  11. Possibly because they don't want their techs sticking their fingers across the high voltage points associated with hybrids. Just a thought but I may well be way off beam.
  12. That'll be the mid flight fuelling facility! I should have thought it must be something to do with the tyres and as Malcolm says, a stuck stone/gravel or god forbid, a nail.
  13. Reading this review can only help reinforce one's decision to buy Lexus. I do find that all too frequently the dozy individual you are obliged to deal with has zero customer skills and frankly doesn't deserve to win your business when they did precious little/nothing to earn it!
  14. And a few more from Tim Vine, if I remember correctly. The Grim Reaper came for me last night, and I beat him off with a vacuum cleaner. Talk about Dyson with death. I went to the cemetery yesterday to lay some flowers on a grave. As I was standing there I noticed 4 grave diggers walking about with a coffin, 3 hours later and they're still walking about with it. I thought to myself, they've lost the plot!! My daughter asked me for a pet spider for her birthday, so I went to our local pet shop and they were £70!!! Blow this, I thought, I can get one cheaper off the web. I was at an ATM yesterday when a little old lady asked if I could check her balance, so I pushed her over. I start a new job in Seoul next week. I thought it was a good Korea move. I was driving this morning when I saw a parked RAC van. The driver was sobbing uncontrollably and looked very miserable. I thought to myself, that guy's heading for a breakdown.
  15. A man wakes up in the hospital, bandaged from head to foot. The doctor comes in and says, "Ah, I see you've regained consciousness. Now, you probably won't remember, but you were in a pile-up on the motorway. You're going to be okay, you'll walk again and everything but I'm trying to break this to you gently, the fact is, your willy was chopped off in the wreck and we were unable to find it." The man groans, but the doctor goes on, "You've got £9,000 in insurance compensation coming and we have the technology now to build you a new willy that will work as well as your old one did - better in fact! But the thing is, it doesn't come cheap. It's £1,000 an inch." The man perks up at this. "So," the doctor says, "It's for you to decide how many inches you want. But it's something you'd better discuss with your wife. I mean, if you had a five inch one before, and you decide to go for a nine incher, she might be a bit put out. But if you had a nine inch one before, and you decide only to invest in a five incher this time, she might be disappointed. So it's important that she plays a role in helping you make the decision." The man agrees to talk with his wife. The doctor comes back the next day. "So," says the doctor, "have you spoken with your wife?" "I have," says the man. "And what is the decision?" asks the doctor. "We're having granite worktops"
  16. A few from Tommy cooper: Paddy says "Mick, I'm thinking of buying a Labrador .."Blow that" says Mick "have you seen how many of their owners go blind?" My girlfriend thinks that I'm a stalker. Well, she's not exactly my girlfriend yet. I was explaining to my wife last night that when you die you get reincarnated but must come back as a different creature. She said she would like to come back as a cow. I said "You're obviously not listening." The wife has been missing a week now. Police said to prepare for the worst. So I have been to the charity shop to get all her clothes back. When I was in the pub I heard a couple of plonkers saying that they wouldn't feel safe on an aircraft if they knew the pilot was a woman. What a pair of sexists. I mean, it's not as if she'd have to reverse the effing thing!
  17. You may have answered your own question, i.e. remove one of the rubber caps along with any sponge but make sure it doesn't provide an inlet to splashed water. Personally I would have thought the vent should be at a low point given in due course water(condensate) would tend to pool. Obviously there may well be practical limitations as to how low down the vent can be created and of course again be wary of splashed water ingress. However, it seems to me if the respective air temperatures are the same inside/outside the headlamp, then condensate is less likely. Seems to me the simplest test would be to try removing the rubber cap(s) and see if that yields a result.
  18. Given you now have nothing to lose, how about creating a vent hole? I used to get this problem in my Jag and I could play heat onto the headlight and the condensation would disappear only to return when the weather cooled. I believe the condensation remains forever in the headlamp and simply cannot escape and will eventually return. A vent should allow the air inside the headlamp to be at ambient temperature and therefore shouldn't condensate. Surely worth a try? Remember, warm air holds significantly more moisture than cold and will condensate when it comes into contact with cooler surrounds.
  19. I too have always had my cars serviced and (if needed) MOT'd at the same time. I figure the garage is unlikely or would be embarrassed to fail a car they had just serviced! Seems to have worked so far.........
  20. For my two pennies worth, I bought a second car as a runabout given I can and do park in places where a large and wide car would not be expected to go. This arrangement works well and for the most part the LC gets used on longer journeys. The runabout gets used for all manner of things such as shopping, trips to the tip and even (much to my angst) by my wife who frequently uses it to tow a sand school leveller! Obviously two cars to tax/insure/service but the payback is driving the LC. Oh, definitely do not underestimate the width of the car and the door lengths. For what it is worth, I have number 3 of the seat memory settings adjusted such that the seat fully reverses and lifts up at the same time. I engage this when exiting is difficult, and it can and does make life a lot easier.
  21. It does seem there are various figures for the 0 to 60 and they range from 4.4 to 4.6 seconds. If memory serves, then I recall the official time as 4.5 seconds. Top speed does seem to be a bit more consistent though at 168 mph. For the hybrid then a 0 to 60 of 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. These figures seem to be a bit more universally reported/agreed. Are you thinking of buying one then Malc?
  22. Classic beggars can't be choosers situation, Arthur. 🙂
  23. Inclusive Malc and while you wait service. Gave me a chance to do some project scoping in a nearby Wickes store, so I made good use of the 45 minutes or so that it took to fix.
  24. Well the car went in to the dealer today and I am very happy to advise a repair price consisting of the mirror shell, colour coded lower portion and the chrome strip all replaced for £219 inclusive labour. Quite remarkable and truly superb service from start to finish. Must say, I continue to be very pleased with Lexus Gatwick and feel well looked after by their friendly, attentive staff. Obviously, I regard this as an excellent outcome!
  25. I've got to say I was surprised and pleased with the cash offers I had and from WBAC and Motorway. I prefer the latter having "disposed" of 3 cars via their service. Excellent experience and final prices in all instances were above their initial estimates. There was a third unconditional offer from JLR just before Christmas which was 3 grand up on current offers but that was of course 2021 not 2022. My concern with JLR is their quality control just doesn't seem up to the mark, which is a shame given they have designed some very desirable cars and it was this that attracted me to a Japanese car. They seem to be in a different league and I seldom hear too much negativity about Lexus, Toyota, Honda and Mazda. Will drop you a line once I hear back from Lexus.
