2018 NX300h sat nav update
PDM replied to Scolly83's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
Hi Warren, No problem. I think you need to buy it from the e-store in the My Lexus section of the Lexus website. (Do you already have a login there, with your car connected to your account?) Paul -
2018 NX300h sat nav update
PDM replied to Scolly83's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
Hi Warren, I think this you will need to purchase. Your car probably came with 3 years of map updates from new, so these will now be over unfortunately. I think you can buy 3 years of updates for the price of one at the moment (at least you could fairly recently). Paul -
2018 NX300h sat nav update
PDM replied to Scolly83's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
Warren, Are you wanting to update the maps, or the underlying software (i.e. the multimedia/nav software applications)? Both is possible (if there are updates for the system itself) but probably the map data can either be done yourself over USB or by buying a new micro DC card with the new maps on (depending on system age). Neither of these should require a dealer visit. I guess being a 2018 car you have what is known as MM17 infotainment. The maps for this can be downloaded (at cost) from here and installed using a USB stick: https://www.lexus-tech.eu/Navigation/base You need to create a login, but this is free to do. You will probably need to pay for actually downloading the maps. IF you have MM17 then the map you need will be in the bottom centre of the web page. Paul -
Alan, I noticed this morning that the speed camera icon (that you can click to add a camera to the database) was no longer present. Glad I'm not the only one. I suspect this may have something to do with the roll out and associated back end changes for the new Lexus Link plus phone app, but it could be a coincidence. I was going to leave it a other 24h before writing again to customer relations. Did you by any chance do an over the air map update recently? Paul

New Lexus Link + app released 18th Aug

Does anyone know if the new app works with MM19 systems or just MM21? Paul -
Theft attempts with no success

Unfortunately the RX protection plate will not fit the NX - I already asked about this. I agree that the "not being aware" line seems a rather thin excuse. Paul -
Roger, that's interesting on point 1. I have read on here somewhere that this is a feature they are going to introduce on Lexus Link Pro - i.e. it wasn't ready at launch but will be introduced later on. Perhaps this is no longer the case now? Paul

I asked this question and was told "it is on a new security platform". I assume that means it is not susceptible to the current CAN invader at least. Paul

As I understand the CANbus only goes to the passenger side head light and the communications between the headlights is LINbus, so only one side needs doing. Can anyone confirm if this is the case? Paul

The YouTube advert concentrates on self charging hybrids. It will be interesting to see if they roll out this type of policy also on plugins, or if the extended electric range of a plugin (and added performance) would not be viable for them to discount?

Hi Alan, Other than mpg, how do you find the drive train compared to the v6? I test drove a 450h+ and the drivetrain was better than I expected - and I thought it handled well. I noted the loss of the expanding door bins. Shame about the radio dropping out? DAB or FM? Also thought that insurance would not be so bad on the new model... Cheers, Paul

Hi Roger, 1. Unfortunately not 2. This it doubtful. I find it works fine on regular signs but not on smart motorway electronic signs, particularly when going back to national speed limit. For some vehicles there was an ECU update for this which stopped the system recognising speed limits from the signs on the back of trucks. Perhaps ask your dealer if an update exists for your car. But in any case this system is not perfect. 3. You have the MM19 I think so yes - you should be able to send destinations to the car and see 12V battery status. 4. In my car only text messages work - emails don't. Paul

Theft attempts with no success
PDM replied to Mad_4u's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
I can't comment on how much this will cost to fix but please write to Lexus and tell them your NX was subjected to a failed CANbus theft. According to a Facebook post that @Herbie linked to, Lexus are currently saying that NX is not being targetted. Paul -
I have no experience with the MM21 system you have - but gracenote was dropped from later releases of MM19 so I'm surprised that it is even present in MM21. I had understood that the meta data was now fetched over the internet rather than streamed so I'm surprised you get this message. Paul

Anti-theft CANbus plates
PDM replied to Herbie's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
@Herbie I'm not shooting the messenger... Just commenting on the facebook post. It may be the case that the NX is not currently being heavily targeted by UK thieves, but it seems a different story in France, with the NX being second to the RAV4. https://gettotext.com/the-toyota-rav4-was-the-most-stolen-car-in-france-in-2022/ And given this seems to have started (according to other articles on the web) in Japan in 2021, we can extrapolate the likely outcomes.... Cheers, Paul -
Insurance Renewal

Be interested to know if Lexus Motor insurance will insure you. The fourth gen RX insurance in London and the South East is absolutely crazy at present. Mine doubled, but a factor of four is incredible. Let's all get these CANbus protection plates fitted and hope thefts and premiums come down. Paul -
Insurance Renewal

I asked Toyota if the installation of the plate would reduce my premium and I was told that it wouldn't because it is not a Thatcham approved device. I think we simply need to wait for a bigger roll out and for thefts across RX and other models to reduce. Paul -
I asked the guy from Toyota UK that came to oversee the fitting of the plate to my RX if the fitting of the plate would cause my insurance to fall if I notified them. He said no, because it is not a Thatcham approved device. We simply have to wait until there is a bigger roll out and RX thefts, hopefully, reduce. That may then reduce premiums. In the mean time, I suggest anyone with other models that have this issue email customer relations and ask when there will be a solution for ES, NX, UX, LC available.

Lexus GS450h- 2012 Model - Full Screen Main Display Issue
PDM replied to Michael Robinson's topic in New Members Area
Michael, That system cannot do any over the air updates so it cannot have changed due to that. The fact that the behaviour has changed is very odd indeed. Paul -

Of course that does not explain why it now behaves differently to before... -
Lexus GS450h- 2012 Model - Full Screen Main Display Issue

Michael, All I can suggest is that you are running a very early release or pre-release of the pre-facelift system software which had this feature, but in later (production) releases the feature was removed. It may essentially be an error that your car is running that specific software release. Can you check what software release you have and compare to the versions listed for the GS on Lexus tech? This could have happened if, say, the head unit was replaced under warranty and the one that replaced it had a very early software revision... On my RX I specifically use a pre-release version of MM19 (that was never shipped with production vehicles as far as I can see) because it has fewer bugs (for my usage) than the latest release (this was a warranty replacement in my case due to all the bugs in MM19.. and it was pure coincidence that we found it much better than the normal release). Later releases fix issues with apple car play but break a number of other things. Given I don't use an iPhone I rather have the older release where things like gracenote have not yet been removed. You could be experiencing something similar? A pre-release version where the feature ended up being removed in the end? (And was then clearly added in properly for the MM15 software on the facelift models?) Other than that I have no ideas. Paul -
Hugh, I have a 2021 RX with AVS (not air, just adaptive dampers). I think it rides well. I do notice in sport s+ mode that the suspension is stiffer. Have not spent much time in one without AVS, so cannot compare and contrast. I believe on the F-sport you can additionally get something called "roll skyhook control" with an active anti-roll bar. Have a look here: https://mag.lexus.co.uk/2020-lexus-rx/ The gearbox is also a planetary e-cvt in the RX. Paul

Sounds like you have the MM19 bug for voice activation ("no media device selected", even when it is already playing from that device!). Only way to fix that is to downgrade the system to an older, working version. I've never used an ipod, so I can't tell you if an older version of the software would also fix that unfortunately. At least your tracks are playing in the correct order. Paul
