Has anyone downsized from an RX to a UX?
PDM replied to Ian M's topic in Lexus UX250h / UX300h / UX300e Club
You could look at the NX as an in between size. I had one as my main vehicle for 5 years - great car. Certainly feels a fair bit smaller than the RX. Paul -
Alan, Merry Christmas. All i can immediately suggest is to check/change and try different Bluetooth MAP profile version numbers on Android and see if one of them works with the RX. You will need to go onto developer options on the phone to change this. Do you need help to be do that? Also make sure you have the latest software installed on the vehicle. Cheers, Paul
-
You are right... My specific issue with the OEM system is we seem to have moved from systems that had basic functionality but at least worked as per the manual (MM15 for example in my old NX) to systems which are slightly less basic but do not work as they are supposed to and, frankly, are riddled with bugs (eg MM19 in my RX). Only today my RX was playing radio stations different to the ones i was selecting in the user interface (it's an offset error between what is indicated on the display and the station that actually plays, so I have to select the station 2 rows down from the one I want). I have reported this months ago but the bug has still not been fixed. There is clearly very little software quality testing that happens. It's very odd as it is a very different quality to the rest of the car and i would have thought the easiest to fix. Paul

Herbie - you are such a strong Android auto advocate that sometimes i think you would use your mobile phone's battery to supplement the hybrid system if Android auto provided the feature 🙂 Have a good Christmas! Looking forward to see how the Grom unit turns out... Paul
-
Peter, Doesn't sound great. I totally understand that the paid for features don't work and Android auto is not a substitute for those not working (even if Android auto itself is useful). I have around 15 open bug reports with software on my RX and frankly i have been shocked... This is not the Lexus i have been used to in the past and there is little engagement in them actually fixing anything. Doesn't bode well as vehicles become more and more complex from a software perspective. Which navigation software version are you running? What is known as MEU "running change 6" has just been released on the RX and I have just checked on Lexus Tech and it was released at the same time on the UX as well. This is nav software version 1170. The reason I ask is that 1170 will put a red forward slash in the bottom left of the nav screen if GPS lock is lost. This may be useful to prove to the dealer that GPS reception is inadequate. 1170 is (astonishingly) the first version of the MM19 system that includes this feature (even though it has been there for years on earlier systems). i would have thought there would be a received signal strength or SNR indication for DAB in the service menu on the infotainment system. Perhaps specifically ask the dealer if this can be used for diagnostics. They should be able to compare RSS on your car for another one at the dealer. I cannot comment on the auto high beam. This is one feature that is a lot better on my 2021 car than it was on my 2015 car and it works well for me. Good luck and please keep us informed. Paul
-
James, Does the manual say you should be able to change this? (It looks like it based on your initial video). If so, are you running the latest software revision? Might be worth checking with the dealer. Then raise a bug report with Lexus if necessary. The current infotainment software has a lot of bugs and this coupe be another one. Paul

USB intermittently stops working
PDM replied to Booser's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Have you tried another usb stick to rule out the usb stick being faulty? If you rebook the infotainment (hold in the power/volume known for about 5s) does it come back to life, or you have to unplug and replug the stick? Paul -
Hi Ed, I have to be careful here as I have lived in London for two decades now, but I was raised in Yorkshire, and it has no problems with my accent! I would say the accuracy is around 90% for me, perhaps higher. When the media commands are working (if the stick was successfully indexed) it even has some intelligence in the music play back commands for instance, so if I say: Play Album "Bat out of Hell 2" It will respond with "Playing album Bat out of hell 2, Back into Hell"... so you can see that whilst the command part ("play album") has to be exact, there is some intelligent pattern matching on the album name so that if I miss the "back into Hell part" is still matches what it can. It's strange how the system seems very very bad in some cases but pretty good in others. Paul

Peter, This also sounds like a fault. When you press the voice command button the system should then bring up a new screen specifically for voice commands, with prompts. It does not matter which screen you were previously on - the voice command system should behave the same... i.e. if you were on the map screen and say "play album name" it should do so in exactly the same way as if you were previously on the audio screen and issue the same command. I am extremely annoyed that media voice commands often fail to work on MM19 as I use these a lot for playing music from an mp3 stick, but when the system is working, i.e. it indexes the memory stick properly, I find the voice commands very good indeed. The system is, however, sensitive to a small number of command words only, so you do need to know what these are. If you deviate from these then it will not work, but stick to them and IMHO it works well (subject to the MM19 software bug). Those of you having issues should perhaps ask to try another vehicle at the dealer, because you should not be having these problems. Voice commands on a Lexus are not a silly gimmick if there are no faults - they really work well and stop you having to use menus when driving. Paul
-
Hi Ed, This is very odd (well, I can't comment on VW, Honda, Mini or Merc...) All the way back to 2013, in a Lexus, I have been able to use, as I do frequently, several types of voice command all very reliably: Call <person name> at mobile/home Play album <album name> Play song <song name> Go Home The media commands can be broken on MM19 systems (the ones with ACP/AA) as the system mostly fails to index the memory stick contents into the voice command system, but otherwise I find all these to be very good indeed. I have always found the phone based commands to work very well indeed. For example, in the video that Robert posted above, I would clearly say the system is broken. If I say "go home" on my RX, it will immediately set the destination to home, first time. It sounds like Robert is speaking very clearly but for some reason it is not working. Paul
-
Hi All, Voice commands should work quite reliably. If they are not working for you, this is not a design failure or "just a poor voice command system", it must be a fault in your vehicles. We used to have a 2013 CT and the voice commands worked very well in that car. Also in a 2015 NX. There are known issues with MP3 media voice commands on newer cars with the MM19 system but this is due to a bug, not a fundamental deficiency in the voice command system. Paul
-
I never had this problem on our 2013 CT (I used to use a 32GB stick in that vehicle) but one thing that may help here a little - you probably don't need to restart the entire car - just reboot the infotainment system by holding in the power/volume knob for about 5s till it restarts. Paul

Track sequence wrong when playing MP3's from USB
PDM replied to Fusspot's topic in Lexus ES 300h Club
Hi Neil, Can I borrow your orange box for a moment? I'm sorry you are also suffering with what is ultimately poorly tested software. I came into my RX from a 2015 NX which probably had the same infotainment system as your 2016 RC. I have also been very disappointed that functions that worked fine in a 2015 car are broken in a (more expensive) 2021 car. In my opinion the MM19 infotainment system is still not release ready (even after several patches), let alone Lexus quality and, like you, I'm pretty upset about it. Customer relations have been very helpful to me (as has my dealer) but it seems they do not have the backup of the relevant software engineering team in Toyota Motor Europe to get this fixed as things stand. They now prioritise bugs based on the numbers of complaints received. I think you are the fifth person I know of here that has complained about these specific issues. I have no idea how many complaints are the threshold to get things fixed but the more people who complain the more chance we have. What happened to "The relentless pursuit of perfection"? It looks like you have already found the main Easter eggs. On the bright side, I think I can help you with some things, but some things we would need the source code to fix, which we don't have. Firstly, can you let me know which NAV and AUDIO and nav_db versions of the software you are running? (in settings -> general -> software update) Let's start with the speed camera beep. My feeling is that you have done an over the air update of map data (or the dealer/previous owner has) before handing over the car. You can check this by looking at the nav_db version and comparing to setup->online->lexus online-> map update->current map version. If the nav_db version is older than listed for some of the maps in Lexus online, then an OTA update has been done and this is known to break speed camera notifications. If this is indeed the case, you need to reload the complete map database from usb stick. It takes about 70mins and will refresh all the maps (not just UK which are probably the only ones you are updating if you do an OTA update). I recommend not using OTA update: it's currently broken and has been for at least the last 2 map updates. You can get info on how to update from usb stick here by Phil (pobrown): Now, to your other points. These are less easy to fix. Playing music alphabetically is utterly ridiculous and I simply don't understand how in 2021 we can have a Mark Levinson system in a Lexus that plays music in alphabetical order and not track order. You literally can't make this stuff up. And... a 2015/2016 car would be fine if you used drive sort (because it played in FAT order in the folder). You have no choice at present with MM19 but to label all songs as you have suggested: ${discnumber}.${tracknumber} ${track name} This will, however, make voice recognition of songs less reliable unless you can remember the track number of each song on each album. (Of course voice commands are broken anyway.. more on that later). Album art I *can* help you with. I use mp3tag for modifying the mp3 id3 tag text fields, but not the album art images. I use bliss for that and it has worked perfectly on all my tracks. I would suggest that you may be running into the maximum limit of album art pixels or image file size (this is undocumented). In bliss (not sure about mp3tag) you can force a maximum image size to 500x500 pixels. These all work fine. All my mp3s have embedded 500x500 jpeg and all work in the car. Try modifying one that is not working to be a 500x500 pixel jpeg. The big one for me if the broken voice commands. All I can tell you is that there is a recognised error (by several people on here, several dealers and under some investigation by Lexus, but with insufficient complaints to prioritise a fix) with usb sticks of mp3s not being indexed into the voice command system. On a 2015/16 vehicle, this works perfectly, every time (also on our old 2013 CT). On MM19 it may kick off the indexing process at some point... perhaps in a week or so (I'm serious). you may find at some point you start the car and voice commands work. Or you may not.... this one requires patience. Once it is indexed, it may stay working. Or it may not.... Cross your fingers. One thing is certain: if it is working and you remove the stick to add more music, it will be broken again. the fact that this got through to release tells me that their trusting is at best insufficient. I hadn't noticed the different behaviour of track versus album advance. I (would like to!) use voice commands to select and album.... 😞 For the heated seat on the passenger side when there is no one in the seat... on my RX it is the passenger door opening that causes the passenger side heating to enable. Otherwise the passenger temperature dial is blank and the heated seat does not auto turn on. I think there may be some setting in the menu that can enable that for you, but I know the climate settings on the new ES are different from the RX so an ES owner may be better placed to help here. Sorry for the long rant. I have been a Lexus customer for almost 10 years and to start with simply could not believe that these bugs existed. I spent weeks wondering what I was doing wrong. It simply never entered my mind that there would be so many bugs on a new Lexus. OK, you can have your box back now! Paul P.S. I'll direct message you. -
Hi Tim, To stop is going back to the map every 20s, go into the Settings->General and turn off "Auto change to screen". (Incidentally I think this setting should be called "Auto change to map", as that explains what it actually does!) "Audio player disconnected" is the blue tooth media profile. when you pair your phone, it will probably pair both the phone profile and the media profile (so that if you play eg music on your phone it will stream over the car's audio system). It sounds like your phone is now refusing the connection from the car. I have the media bluetooth connection connected to the Radly internet radio instead of my phone. Paul

Lexus UX Sat Nav Screen going completely blank
PDM replied to pmlawrence's topic in Lexus UX250h / UX300h / UX300e Club
Mark, The firmware cannot be upgraded OTA on the 2021 ES in the UK. Only the maps themselves can be updated OTA, which does not cause a blank screen (in my experience)... and you have to click on "accept" to proceed with the update (unless default settings have been changed). The USA vehicles can, however, have OTA firmware updates so perhaps the one you remember was from the USA? Cheers, Paul -
Lexus UX Sat Nav Screen going completely blank
PDM replied to pmlawrence's topic in Lexus UX250h / UX300h / UX300e Club
Sounds like it may have crashed..... I have seen this on my RX... I think..... certainly I have had it crash on me (just can't remember for sure if the screen went blank. You can reboot the infotainment by pressing in the power button/volume knob for about 5s. (So you can restart the infotainment system without power cycling the vehicle). This is useful if it crashes. Paul -
Hi Herbie, In principle you are right - the MM19 systems that come in e.g. the 2021 RX should be an improvement - coming with wired ACP and AA capability etc built in. Unfortunately I don't think the core functions are really any better than they were in MM13/MM15 etc (e.g. I don't see navigation routing is any better) and there are a lot of bugs in MM19 that it feels like I am running beta software.... and this is 2 years after those systems were originally released. It seems very odd to me that Lexus can make such great cars and write such complex things like the hybrid control software which works 100%, but fail to check if speed camera alerts work if you do an over the air map update! Sorry for the rant about my first world problems! You are correct about AA/ACP - only a subset of apps can be used, and as you suggest, Netflix is not one of them. Paul

The seat buttons are not illuminated on the 2015 NX unfortunately. Paul -
Scrolling through radio list
PDM replied to Aliowen's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
Mark Levinson in my case... No numbers... I think we could all be happy if they did a reverse sort of the stations in the small split screen window and reversed the button mapping. Then up would be up and up would also increment the station number at the same time! Have a good weekend. Paul -
Scrolling through radio list
PDM replied to Aliowen's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
Alex, We will have to agree to differ on this one. At least in my vehicle when the radio stations are shown in the smaller frame of the split screen there are no numbers attached to the radio stations and hence no context for incrementing the number of the preset. The context in the window is simply a list of stations and in that frame, up maps to down and down maps to up. This is why the solution is not just one of swapping the button mapping but also needs a reverse sort of station names in the small window as I mentioned above. As you say "But the stations list is numbered 1-6 from top to bottom". It isn't numbered on my car int he small window, but the reverse sort would effectively number it 1-6 from bottom to top. Then I think up and down would be consistent as would preset number increments/decrements. As it stands, this part of the user interface is as best "confusing". Paul -
Tony, You are right - there is no sim slot. It's an E-sim on Orange UK and cannot be set to another provider (at least not by you). You need to buy through Lexus if you want more data on that device. You can also use your iphone but you will need to tether over Bluetooth as there is an incompatibility with the Lexus system remembering wifit hotspot passwords on apple devices. Thanks, Paul
