Lexus Battersea (Service) - Closing!
PDM replied to Jose DS's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
I like Edgware Road - both for sales and servicing - always very helpful and efficient. I was less impressed with Croydon. I'm using Gatwick at present who have also been good to me but that's probably a bit far for you from Oval. Paul -
I agree with most of what has been said. A couple from me: The materials on the dash (in particular the bit that cylindrical bit that sticks out just above the glove box) are very nice and soft, but mark very very easily. The surround camera side view (second press of the panoramic view monitor button) is a composite of images (as is the top down view) and it is less useful and accurate that the slightly older system which just showed a straight camera view down the each side of the vehicle. This is one of those advancements which looks fancy but is actually pretty useless. The old system was way way better for navigating width restrictors. ...And a bunch of software bugs detailed elsewhere on this forum. Paul

Sorry I forgot to answer this. You will need to login to https://www.radly.fm/ Do not login where it says "Lexus user login". (that would be too obvious!) Login wih the Radly Uder Login at the top of the page. Try the same credentials you use for your My Lexus login. In the car you need to connect the bluetooth audio profile to the wifi box Bluetooth connection. The internet radio is streamed over the BT to the stereo. When you have done this, select BT audio on the stereo and it should give you Radly channels. In the radly.fm website you can then select favourites that will cycle through over the BT connection. It's very good for listening to foreign language stations, of, indeed, UK stations when abroad with the car. Let me know if that works. Paul -

I had a play with the new infotainment in a test drive and need more time to figure out the differences, but a lot looked more familiar than I expected. It does have some extra features, including driver profiles... this is an extension of the concept of each driver having seat/mirror positions stored to a key and looked pretty cool. Paul -

I did a test drive in an NX450h+ a few weeks ago and the ride and handling were really superb - it certainly handled better than my RX and i agree about the feeling of weight. I guess the 350 should handle even better than the 450 without the weight of the plugin battery. Hope you enjoy the NX when it arrives! Paul -

And RX has two data enabled usb ports! I just read on another thread that the new NX only has one, and I was amazed. All the other usb connections are charging only apparently. This means if you want to use Android auto (via a cable, as the wireless version does not work on UK models for some reason) you cannot also have a usb stick, and vice versa. They must be counting on everyone doing music streaming from their phone? Or using an iPhone? Or perhaps using a memory stick for music is too old school these days! Paul -

I routinely get 33-34mpg on the motorway at 70mph. I also do a lot of driving, er start/stop/queuing, in London, so my average per tank at present is about 29mpg. This does improve in warmer weather. The V6 rumble is nice... At 70mph the engine feels to be almost at idle! -
Hi James, Just to add to the comments of others here, as you have a 2021 UX I would imagine you have a built in WiFi hotspot in the vehicle that you can use instead of your phone. This is the same box that provides the info to the Lexus link application. On my RX the details to connect to it (WiFi network name and password) are on a sticker on the passenger door side of the glove box (open the glove box to see it). Assuming it exists you can then buy a daya subscription from Lexus. Paul

People certainly talk of differences, generally with the opinion that the Japan built cars are the best. All UK RX are built in Japan. I have no experience in vehicles built anywhere else. Paul -

Paul, I drove a new NX450h+ last weekend. The drive was excellent: quick and quiet. The power train is much more comparable to the current RX than the previous NX in terms of immediate throttle response and smoothness. It's also a fair bit faster than the current RX of course. I was also impressed by the handling. It would be interesting to see what people make of the regular hybrid (NX350h) version. Paul -

Dimi, I just realised - I didn't want to come across as overly negative here. I really think I was unlucky with the rattles on my car - don't let that put you off. I have a work around for all my software bugs that is adequate for me and I now thoroughly enjoy driving the car. I can't remember - did you do a test drive yet? Paul -

I had three sources of continuous rattle - which the dealer has now fixed. Based on my own previous experience with the brand I was unlucky. The dealer has fixed them all and the vehicle is now extremely quiet indeed. -

Hi Ed, As far as I am aware, the MMXX refers to the generation of multimedia system hardware and software. The current gen 4 facelift RX comes with what is referred to as MM19 (which is really an updated MM17 with android auto/apple car play added on and a few other modifications. On the new RX is also has a touch screen). So if you have a 2021 RX (as mine) then the multimedia system is what Lexus refer to as MM19. The next update is what is coming in the new NX, which is being called MM21. you may well find that the software version you have is dated sometime in 2020, but this will be a patch to an underlying MM19 system. I was disappointed by the rattles. One where the drivers side A-pillar meets the speaker, one where the trim sits around the infotainment screen, and one in the driver door card. My previous Lexus cars had been rattle free so I believe I was simply unlucky. But, a sign of quality is how people fix mistakes, and the dealer (not that it was their mistake!) worked methodically and the car is rattle free now. I would suspect you may have some software bugs but perhaps do not use the function so haven't noticed them. If you update music on an mp3 stick, I find voice commands of the form "play album X" do not work properly because the system fails to index the memory stick into the voice command system. Radly.fm internet radio does not work on the "My Lexus" website ether. Also, albums are played in alphabetical order by the infotainment rather than by track number. If you do an over the air map update, speed camera alerts fail. I'll spare you the other bugs in my list! None of these are insurmountable but I never had such bugs in my previous "Lexi" and, as I say, you simply may not use these functions so have not noticed the bugs. The advent of android auto and apple car play means may people use their phones to play music rather than a memory stick these days, for example. However, if you have tried these things and you do not have bugs in them, please let me know as I certainly want to know what software versions you are running. Sorry for the long reply. Cheers, Paul -

I like the part leather, part wood wheel. I think it's elegant. The wood is not heated though - only the leather bits are. However, even on the full leather wheel on the RX only the side bits are heated so no difference between the two steering wheel types as far as heating is concerned. I find it comfortable. Paul -

It's great. High quality materials, great engine, smooth ride, moves when you want it to.... still has physical buttons in the cabin but has android auto/ACP built in.... more space than the NX of course. I had a couple of rattles when I picked it up but the dealer has fixed those. There are also software bugs in MM19 (some have been fixed) and you will find my comments on that elsewhere on these forums. No guarantees they are fixed on M21, and of course there is the possibility fore new ones too! Paul -

I have come from the first gen NX to a 2021 RX. Thoroughly enjoy driving the NX and it has been bullet proof. I also drove a gen 2 NX450h+ last week on demo. So I can't comment on the 350 that you are considering but the 450+ had great performance and very good handling for an SUV. The new RX, as Andrew says above, will very likely be a 4 cylinder. The current V6 in the RX is excellent and very smooth. The car has plenty of power for me and I like driving it in and my family riding in it. Very smooth. When we bought our NX in 2015 were in a similar position to you: go for the brand new NX or buy a late gen 3 RX on which there were great discounts as people were starting to wait for the upcoming 4th gen RX. What swayed it for me at the time to the NX was what i perceived significantly improved technology in the NX (surround cameras, much higher resolution HUD, better safety stuff etc). And the 3rd gen RX was the previous Lexus design language with the spindle grill grafted on on the mid cycle update. I thought the outgoing RX looked dated. At this point i perceive the technology gap is much less between the updated 4RX and the new NX than the equivalent gap was in 2015. The obvious thing is the MM19 infotainment in the RX versus the new MM21 in the new NX. As both have apple car play and Android auto one could argue the differences are less important. Also the current RX is the same design language as the rest of the range (new NX included) so doesn't look out of date on the same was the gen 3 did, back in 2015 (subjective of course). I also like physical buttons in the cabin and i like the track pad more than touch screens, with finger prints galore and the need to reach out Infront of you to press them with no arm rest are not, in my opinion, the panacia that many people, including most motoring journalists, perceive. The RX has both track pad and touch screen though so the choice is yours. So, the move away from the track pad, the move to 4 cylinder power, the move to fewer physical buttons, all pushed me to get a late year of 4RX rather than go for a 2NX or wait for the upcoming 5RX. I think the current RX could become quite sort after - in the same way the V6 GS450h models have. Paul -
speed camera data
PDM replied to AlanETM's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
Hi Alan, I would guess that you (or the dealer) has updated the map database over the air. This is known (by Lexus also) to stop the speed camera notifications from working properly. The solution is to update the entire maps database over USB. The dealer should be able to do this for you. I cannot comment on why lane assist keeps dropping out. My 21 RX Takumi does not have this issue and I find it very very good. Paul -
