Voice command - Radio
PDM replied to Al D-Much's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
Did it play classic FM on DAB or on FM? I note you have an MM21 system in a generation 2 NX so it would be interesting to know. The original post refers to an MM19 system, which always defaults to FM rather than DAB. Paul -
Voice command - Radio
PDM replied to Al D-Much's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
Voice command cannot be used for DAB. When you select a station by voice it defaults to FM. Many people find the voice command poor. It has bugs for playback of mp3 off usb (some software versions work ok, some have bugs). When it works it works well. If you have a version with the voice command bug it will not work at all. I use it a lot for phone calls and this works well. As do some of the basic say nav commands such as "go home" or "favourite office" I think dictating an address to the navigation is a mixed bag. Herbie, It's BE-00176L-TME and BE-00189L-TME, both from 2019, that improve road sign assist and should stop it picking up speed limits from the back of lorries! (That is one issue that is specifically listed as a fix!) Paul

Hi Herbie, I think there is actually a technical services bulletin software update for the road sign assist ECU to solve that specific problem! Next time I'm logged in to Lexus tech I'll try to find it. Paul

Hi Rayaan, I would guess the vast majority of use for road sign assist is for speed limits, not to determine if one is or is not on a motorway. I would say on my car, 10% of the time it fails on recognising speed limits. I think a 10% failure of an automated system like this is poor and I still think that being presented with no information is better than being presented with incorrect information. If the whole point of this aid is to help me if I miss a speed limit sign on an unfamiliar road, what is the point if I cannot trust the data it is displaying? The old GPS based speed limit look up was more accurate if your maps were up to date. I understand why the camera based solution is inaccurate, but I would like the accuracy to be better before the technology was introduced. Paul

On a 2019 UX I believe the motorway sign is picked up by the camera for automatic road sign recognition. Perhaps there was a sign not long before with directions to a motorway? Lexus describes the road sign recognition here: https://www.lexus.co.uk/discover-lexus/safety/road-sign-assist#/ It is fair to say that the capabilities of the system are, in my experience, somewhat less than those stated on the web page. Mine often does not recognise dynamic speed limits on motorways.... As I have said several times to Lexus regarding their use of technology.... it needs to work, or you should just remove it. A driver aid is supposed to make things easier - if incorrect road signs are shown on the screen, this is making things worse, not easier. The old speed limits shown on the map that were looked up in a database were reliable and accurate (if you kept your maps up to date.) The current camera based system is not, unfortunately. Paul

Yeap. Having similar issues on my RX. I'm glad a different team writes the hybrid control software to the team that looks after Lexus Link. Paul -
Hi Trevor, Note that (as Herbie suggests above) you cannot install your own sim in the Lexus wifi hotspot (you could in the old ones, but not the new ones). The models that were shipping in the RX are locked to Orange (which is odd as the brand is no longer in use in the UK?) via an e-sim. You could, however, install your own wifi hostpot again, as Herbie suggests). Or you could use the hotspot on your phone. I am probably one of the few people around here who do actually use the Lexus hotspot and pay a subscription for it. I don't like having the hotspot on my phone switched on (it drains the battery) and I frequently fail to switch it on and off in the car. Hence I like the in car hotspot (and my son's ipad tethers to it on long journeys etc). Without a hotspot you will be missing the basic features on Lexus Link (like locating your car, journey analysis etc) and being able to send destinations to the car, and the Radly internet radio (which I think work over the built in hotspot without a subscription). I guess these features will work with a different brand of hotspot (or your phone), but, as you say, you should not need to have to do this! Finally, and sorry for the long post, I have been disappointed by android auto. What I would really like is to be able to join conference calls via AA (voice only of course) but this does not work. As I don't use spotify, the only reason for me to use AA is to get google maps. This may, be worth it, depending on how much you like (hate?) the inbuilt navigation! I have not yet tried a wireless AA adapter (as you say, Motorola are about to release one) and always just plug in if I need it. I would be interested to know how well the Motorola one works though, so please let us know if you get one. (In case you are new to this iteration of the Lexus multimedia system).... Regarding the inbuilt navigation: never do over the air map updates: it breaks speed camera notifications. Always update the complete map database from a USB stick. Happy driving. Paul P.S. I wonder what your dealer did to try to get the hostpot working, when it was not even there! 🙂

2022 V1 maps have been released
PDM replied to PDM's topic in Lexus Audio/Video/Electronics/Security
Just to say i loaded the maps onto my RX today and they worked fine. The whole process took the usual 70mins from start to finish. Paul- 1 reply

Hi All, Just to let people know that the first edition of the 2022 maps seem to be available on Lexus Tech for MM17 and MM19 systems. After a couple of years of minor delays in map releases due to the Pandemic, we seem to be back on a 6 month release cycle. You can either do an over the air update of one or a small number of map regions e.g. UK only (not recommended as it breaks speed camera notifications) or copy the files onto a memory stick and update the entire map database (which takes about 70mims when you plug the stick into the car). I haven't updated myself yet (only just seen the update go live) but will try tomorrow and report back. Have a good Easter. Paul

Tony, I saw a metallic blue ES in the dealer yesterday whilst getting a puncture repaired and it does look a fantastic vehicle. Very odd of the seat memory does not work. Are you sure you are storing the setting correctly? Hold down "set" and press the number you want to store the position in. It should beep when you do that. Paul

Hi All, I understand your frustrations. There have been bugs in the MM19 system in my 2021 RX... reported to Lexus UK by me and others on this forum... at great length and detail. Still no fixes for over 12 months.... It is clear from the progressions of bugs in MM19 over time that there is insufficient software testing that goes on (later versions of software fix some bugs but introduce new ones, some more serious than the ones that are fixed), and on my test drive of a new NX I noticed some bugs were carried over into MM21 from MM19. I also reported that to Lexus UK. It is a shame but the user presented software is not up to the standard of the rest of the vehicles. As software becomes an ever more and more important component of a vehicle, Lexus will need to significantly improve in this area. Ideally they should readopt the old slogan of "The relentless pursuit of perfection". Paul -
Bill, I think the rear view mirror lack of memory setting is effectively not needed with the introduction of the camera/digital rear view mirror on the new NX? (I haven't driven one enough to be sure but seems this should be the case).i know that doesn't help on your UX of course... Paul

What was/is your favourite British Police Car?
PDM replied to superatticman's topic in Lexus Owners Club Lounge
My Dad had a jelly mould Scorpio. The front end was certainly an acquired taste but the interior quality was excellent. Although I do remember the automatic climate control (a very modern feature back then) needing repair more than once! Paul -
I remember that one!

How can I be the first to post this advert on this thread? Although the homage to it by Akio Toyoda for the LS500 is better: Cheers, Paul

I was just browsing lexus-tech.eu looking to see if there were any bug fixes for the plethora of MM19 bugs and found this on the UX300e pages. You may want to take a look...may be a software update the dealer can apply. It's dated 24/02/22: BE-00698L-TME 12V battery flat due to possible too high dark current

Hi Herbie, I think choosing sport mode (the manual mode with fake gears on the gear box, not sport mode on the drive mode selector rotary switch) in the 4RX (and several other models, e.g. 1NX) and selecting a low gear is the same as selecting B in models that have a B mode (e.g. the CT comes to mind, as well as the RX400h). In other words, in some vehicles (like 4RX) you can select multiple fake gears.... The earlier vehicles essentially just had one low gear, called B. It's use is, I think, just as you describe. Cheers, Paul

Pretty sure that high grades (Takumi obviously qualifies) on all models of Lexus has had sequential inductors for a while now. Perhaps all models that have LED lights? As Herbie says, RX has had it for a while (I think the RX actually got it for the launch of the fourth generation in mid 2015). Paul
