Ahh quite right on the value.

Classics World comment: "As a modern classic, the LS400 may lack the visual appeal of a Jaguar but their legendary reliability makes them a very practical proposition."

    Jags are works of art.

The LS400 won't make the value for an investment.

If Jags had Lexus build quality - and were as easy to work on...I'd be Jag.

     😊

Bought one from Amazon a couple of years ago. Use it on my BMW 6 series with AGM battery as well as my Rx400h. Proved to be vey reliable and I like the fact that you can change from ordinary lead acid to AGM and from Motor Bikes to cars as well as using a "recondition" mode. A short review from Honest John here https://kit.honestjohn.co.uk/reviews/review-ctek-battery-charger-mxs-50/#:~:text=It's sturdy and it works,a quick worker as well.

Ray, different products. This thing doesn't charge only monitors via an app to your phone. It makes sure your secondary Battery won't get to a critical state without you knowing

The problem with any debate now is that all sides present their opinions as facts. Increasingly there is only one version - on a variety of subjects - that seems to be acceptable. Education reinforces this approach, and that has changed. When I was studying thirty years ago, the importance of debate and taking different sides (when researched properly) was actively encouraged. Now it seems to be actively discouraged.

On the balance of the evidence I do believe climate change is a problem, but I don’t really know to what extent. As you say, different opinions are either excluded from the media debate, or they are ridiculed, but that is the case with so many different - and important - subjects that deserve far more scrutiny.

    Totally agree

I'm sorry but I find this rather sad and annoying.

Why buy something so expensive and so nice, just to have it garaged up 99% of the time?

To my mind, the previous owner has just robbed someone else of having the pleasure of driving it. I'll never understand people like that - if you don't want to use it, don't buy it.

    Rant over

Does the same apply to a four seat car vehicle when you only use one? Or a 4 bed house when there's only 2 of you and the dog 😱

^^ The idea is to change behaviour and opinions. Personal transportation has a relatively small impact overall, but on the individual affected it reinforces the need for change and (supposedly) ‘invests’ us all in the need for change in other areas that are outside of our direct control.

I understand the theory, but can’t help feeling it’s a bit of a lost cause when I look at polling of changes people would find acceptable.

    https://news.sky.com/story/one-in-four-britons-is-unwilling-to-change-key-habits-that-would-help-tackle-climate-crisis-poll-12267928

Changing ideas and opinions is a euphemism for propaganda for adults and brainwashing for children what is going on all over is grim. Limiting speeds for example in the Netherlands is just a way of "nudging" you towards self-driving cars. At which point the government will control how and when you can be mobile. Same with the acceleration towards a cashless society, someone else will be in control of what little money you have left after usuary levels of taxation. In terms of climate change there are lone voices out there like the GWPF who are valiantly presenting some real world data against a blizzard of misinformation and omissions. For example when did Sky or the BBC report on African nations planning 1250 new coal and gas fired power stations let alone China's 5 a month? But you are being forced to reduce your heating by sky rocketing energy uplifts and stop using straws. Consider,

"Almost everywhere you look, climate change is having only small, and often benign, impacts. The impact of extreme weather events ― hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and droughts ― are, if anything, declining. Economic damages have declined as a fraction of global GDP. Death rates from such events have declined by 99% since the 1920s. Climate-related disease has collapsed. And more people die from cold than warm temperatures" Quote from GWPF article, now you might argue against this, and that's a start, at least you are getting an opposing view.

Hi just just had my 2012 rx450h for 2 weeks and have started thr detailing of the car. The dull chrome on the boot and doors looks poor.

Just wondering what you guys use to bring the chrome trim back to new.?

Also is there a guide to remove the trim sonic can clean the paintwork behind them ?

    Regards

    Ronan

I am in a similar position, my view is you are unlikely to bring them to an "as new" condition short of re-chroming. Unless I am mistaken the depth of original chrome layers was reduced at some point. My 20 year old Jag chrome parts are still as new. Autosol as a cleaner is as good as anything I know

It is said that the first production cars were so badly built that even the BL management turned them down as company cars!

I had one 15years ago. It was a 1983 3.6 manual on a 1986 C reg. The reason between build and registration date is because it was a SVE (special vehicle engineering) car and when it registered by Jaguar for the road in 1986 it was fitted with many of the upgrades that were on the 1987 models. I also had a letter from the original supplying dealer to the first 'owner' (which I regret not taking a copy of) stating that it was the 'company car' for Martin Brundle, who at the time they said was a Jaguar sportscar driver.

It had dodgy electrics and the footwells were always full of water after it rained (even after replacing the door rubbers), a common fault. But this car was the most comfortable car I have ever driven or been driven in. I only sold it as it seemed every time I looked at it it had dissolved more!

Sounds like a fantastic piece of Jaguar motoring history, I would definitely contact the JEC so we can record such an event 👍

Blimey if you want to believe the bmw supra is better looking than the Lexus LC then that's your perogative. What I said is my perogative. Oh the LC knocks the supra for a six in my opinion 👍

For a woman to change her mind is her perogative, for a man to change his is pure purgatory

I think an older Rolls Royce or Bentley could well fit that category ...  a total moneypit forever ......  and a day,              total unreliability for the average guy............

But what style Malc🍾 and as the Americans would say, there reaches a certain juncture of maturation in one's life where cost is not necessarily the number one consideration.

You two are doing a wonderful job in enhancing the value of my 450h. Do keep up the good work!

There is one phrase that springs to my mind and perhaps other Lexus drivers have recognised this too?

Whenever, I get into the car, whether to drive it, check something in the Handbook, or simply to put it into Ready Mode to recharge the Battery, I experience an "inner peace".

As part of a longer missive I opined thus,

During my working career when asked what my ambitions were I often replied; To be a trainee eccentric. But it's only of late that I have come to realise that in fact what I was doing was chasing wisdom. In addition to Deming on that drive back my thoughts wandered to Greek mythology and the Lotus Eaters. Here they lived in eternal sunlit afternoons in a perfect state of mind and no concerns to disturb their contemplations and that's sort of like driving the RX. So it is Lexus in place of Lotus (apologies to Tennyson) from here on in and I anticipate wisdom insights any day now especially how to afford a series IV😎

And with a name like Nico I am sure he will "get this" 😂

I had a couple of BMW 635 coupes of the ‘80s which were very nice. But head gasket, rust, rear swing out under hard cornering, tyre grip from cold (limited metric choice) awful.

Passenger in the old 3M series lhd this is a racing classic with amazing grip on a wet road...

Owned a modern one but average.

Jags...done them they are expensive scrap. Lovely designs. Best was 95 XJ 4ltr.

currently looking after my eldest son’s 2007 clk 350. Nice car. Just after the appalling engine failures...yet solenoid magnets x4 need replacing as per usual...not expensive at 30quid each but please what of quality control?

    He’s peeved as it’s “slower” than my 2000 Lexus 400 🤭😁🔧

Jags-expensivescrap? My XKR is the same age as yours and appreciating in value, how about your LS? And Brits will always have a deep-rooted emotional attachment to the brand which goes way beyond transient talking points such as performance and cost😎

I’ve had an intermittent problem with the front right parking sensor on my Lexus LS 430 for the past couple of years. In winter time it’s not a problem at all (it doesn’t happen) but as soon as the temperature gets above 13C, it comes on randomly at low speed. The same is now happening with one of the centre parking sensors. All of the parking sensors at the front have some paint peeling off.

I took it to Lexus Reading a while ago and their solution was to replace all of the front sensors and charge me £1800 in the process! They said they couldn’t tell whether it was and electrical issue or as a result of the paint peeling on the sensors.

i’ve had the car two years now and reckon I’ll keep it for at least the next four. Hence it makes sense to invest in getting this sorted, but without feeling I’m getting fleeced. Does anyone have any ideas how or who might be best placed to help? I’m good at sourcing parts, but rubbish at fitting them! Our local garage suggested taking it to a body shop as the sensors will need painting. There are also any number of in-car audio places who work with parking sensors, although I do want to keep Lexus OEM ones if at all possible.

Any suggestions and advice gratefully received!

Is your need to maintain your original spec or a practical one I.e. assistance with parking? If its the latter, on my Jaguar XKR I fitted a number plate surround incorporating twin sensors from a firm in Leeds. They come in black but I had mine painted to look less obvious. That was 3 years ago and they have been perfect.

LOL Phil. By normal I mean glass that's used in bottles drinking glasses etc. To me crystal items are for show and to admire.

Morning Vlad, now I understand, you prefer swigging from the bottle 🥳🥳🥳 And I fully agree, falling asleep with a bottle far more convenient than a glass🍾🍾🍾

Very interesting about lead crystal seepage etc. Never been a lover of any kind of crystal glassware. Normal glass for me as I'm a normal bloke.

I wonder Vlad what your definition of "normal" is? Some might see little difference between that and average. And I can't believe anyone on a Lexus site would be content with being average 🤭

The pursuit of excellence in crafting objects is an admirable aspiration be that in glassware, China tea cups, cashmere scarves, English leather shoes etc. And is for everyone not a titled few as it was some years ago. Speaking of crystal I promise not to mention Dolly Parton and her crystal chandeliers 😂

  15. That raises  a really interesting manufacturing/marketing/philosophical/legal debate Steve. So from my perspective why not 5 or 7 or even 10? But then I realise it's the question that's wrong. It should be why have a warranty at all in the traditional sense? That would make an interesting sales pitch - "we don't offer you a warranty because you won't need one. " Bold, brave and unique maybe?
