  1. Crikey Ron! Only today I realised that having a blue badge isn't always advantageous when the spots are adjacent to the entrance to a supermarket. The wider bay encourages it as thoroughfare especially by people who are wider than my RX!! What can possibly go wrong? 😅
  2. In 1986 President Ronald Reagan said that the nine most terrifying words in the English Language are " I'm from the government and I'm here to help". I was reminded of that when today it was stated, "Ministers are to take charge of the HS2 rail project after costs have been 'allowed to spiral out of control'. Transport Secretary Louise Haigh described the state of the expensive infrastructure scheme as 'dire' and she promised to 'work fast and fix things'. Latest estimates indicate the line from London to Birmingham - the only surviving part of the original scheme linking the capital to the north - could run at more than £20 billion over budget". Yet another 20 billion black hole? 😅
  3. Very salient points. At the end of the day it's how much do you savour the battle. I suspect you and I might but others not so confident. It's St Crispians next week, a timely reminder of the speech 😊
  4. Great questions and I refer the honourable gentlemen to my opening statement 😎
  5. In Oscar Wilde's "The Importance Of Being Earnest" Algernon makes the point "The truth is rarely pure and never simple". Apart from two pictures and the driver was elderly and admitted fault we know of no other relevant circumstances. However what intrigues me is where is any liability for other than the driver(s)? At the point of impact it was on garage property and they were in possession of the owners keys! In my mind they and they alone are responsible for fixing the issue, why should the owner be accountable in any way? If so at what point is the garage owner liable for any damage?
  6. Glad you like it, perfectly describes the slippery nature of these "politicians" , shed their beliefs like a snake it's skin 🤠
  7. Great idea, bit like Covid put on every certificate? Fat chance ☹️
  8. Mark my words Malc these chancers are gambling on there being a mild winter(look at the forecast), in which case they will have wriggled out of it like an eel in a jar of Brylcream. But if it's a harsh one then they can aways use "extenuating circumstances/out of the ordinary/etc etc to make a one off payment much like the furlough scheme. However what these strutting jackanapes forget is, a week maybe a long time in politics but it will stay forever in the memory of the off-spring of the people they have slighted. And maybe they, who will be in charge at the time, enact a law stating "Remember the Winter Fuel Allowance " should be in the obituaries of those who voted for the cut and consequences.
  9. Thanks Malcolm, did not know that. It's kept outside but in shade 🤔. So I can expect the same in three years or so time? Cheers Phil
  10. Nope, just likening the curve on the graph, and am I correct in thinking inflation precedes hyperinflation? 🤔🙂
  11. Good reccomendation 👍, by the way are you sure it was a stone? Your surname wouldn't be Trump by the way? 🙂
  12. Oddly enough I am replacing Eagle Asymmetrics. Three and a half years old but showing some cracking due to lack of use, (about 10k) I am told? Nothing dramatic but with an MOT due in February perhaps just as well.
  13. Looks remarkably like the Weimar Republic 😀
  14. As an update to this I have taken advantage of this, 4 x Vector 4seasons, 235 /55/19's, fully fitted, disposal etc for £125 a corner. 👍🙂
  15. At that rate can we expect deflation at the end of the next 100 days? 🤔😱
  16. Why would you want to live on Turkey? Once a year maybe but everyday!? 😅
  17. Give Matt Armstrong a call 😎
  18. From today's express "If pensioners fail to report that they have changed their address or not claimed qualifying benefits, then they may have to hand back their winter fuel payment." I subsequently spoke to the OED who replied "words fail them" 😒
  19. But Gray you missed off the most important bit, the long list of entitlements that will let you, in addition, to claim it. Oh and if you live abroad let's not forget that one 😎
  20. And our weather is ours unlike the fish, laws etc that appears to be someone else's? Your insight into expletives is welcome but am I right in thinking that the etymology of cr*p and merde are two different strains as it were?
  21. Your love affair with the Europeans continues 😊. From the old French word cr*ppe 🚽. But all is not lost here are some ideas! In Somerset, a “letty” is just enough rain to make outdoor working difficult, while in neighbouring Devon and Cornwall a “dimpsey” is a very dull day with low cloud and fine rain In Lincolnshire, particularly forceful rain is described with the phrase “raining forks’tines down’ards”.The tines here would belong to hay or dung forks. Elsewhere, the same weather may be described as “raining stair rods or "cats and dogs". Or black over Bill's mothers when it comes to forecasts 😎 Having said that the prose is far more preferable to the actualite😅
  22. Erm! It was William the conqueror who founded it in 1100 Gray so them Europeans 😅
  23. No 😊, I only mentioned the Saturday Telegraph as I happened to read it in the pub Sunday, no doubt other rags have different opinions but not different facts. The petard quip was driven by your words "I mean life is so simple when everything is somebody else's fault... isn't it?" 😊
  24. Are you not being hoisted by your own petard? 😅
