Well you place me John in something of a conundrum 🤔. As you know the word Academia is in itself from the Greek, essentially meaning theoretical with no practical purpose in mind therefore no decision required or needed. Yet you challenge me to make such a decision, just what is a fellow to do 😱

So what possible difference does it make? Did the designer of the carriage have complaints of "what's wrong with just a horse"? 😅
-
I really do agree with your "what's wrong with people today"? Especially when it comes to a lack of tolerance of other people's, views, opinions choices and a general live and let live approach to life. I see this increasingly in all aspects of life today, this inexorable drive towards a homegeneous existence where everyone has to conform no individuality allowed. It's a poor prognosis.

I think Linas your comment deserves some analysis 😁. Range Rover the original SUV? has been around since 1948 creating or reacting to demand? And if its demand creation and anti-social as you say, then you are saying manufacturers are anti-social, do you have left-leaning tendencies? Generally speaking if a thing is bigger it consumes more material, energy, labour etc., so hard to see how it costs the same? And do they really have a higher margin or in fact a margin at all since it's not a given that all cars sell at a profit.? I give way on parking spaces since all cars have got much bigger over the years, witness the mini, space has not increased in line. Finally Linas I worry about your line "I just hate SUV's" this is a very strong emotional response to what is just a car after all, have you considered counselling before it turns to violence,? The suggestion of taxation is already showing an early vindictive streak🤔😂.

First reaction, OMG! Second, why am I not surprised 🤓

I don't understand your rationale William? A look on a forecourt, a salesperson in your ear and say a 20 minute test drive is preferable to having the car in your possession for up to 7 days for you and maybe a professional to give it a forensic 🤔🤔🤔 -

It's time we re-named the term "common sense' as the reality is it's not very common 😅

John, it seems very odd to me that some members feel that the LOC are the arbiters of some unspoken truth like some Supreme Law Court🤔 and that some contributors are the proxy judges. If anyone has an overwhelming problem with the veracity of Lexus statements then the answer is clear - take some personal responsibility and sue them or at the very least speak with Trading Standards. The LOC makes it very clear from the outset that they have no affiliation with Lexus /Toyota so why try to bludgeon answers from a non, directly aligned audience?

What a great story Len, made me smile 😊. Intrigued to know now though if you have bought a wing of a stately pile, certainly sounds like it 😁

Time to buy a £100 banger then? 😉

To add grist to the mill this was from a firm who make those digital warning signs, the fire engine one is one I wouldn't have thought of and the emissions one alarming! 🤔. What is intriguing is there doesn't appear to be any up to date analysis although I did see that the institute of economic affairs have an article from 2011 but even that was based on 5 years old data. Speed hump cons. Are expensive to install and expensive to maintain—Speed humps can cost $4,500 to $7,500. [Source: The Washington Post, Sept. 9, 2008]Interfere with response times of emergency vehicles—Each speed hump costs fire trucks ten seconds in response time. [Source: ABC Orlando/WFTV, Jan. 28, 2010; and Fire Capt. Jeffrey Martin, St. Petersburg Times, Feb. 2, 2008; and the Tampa Tribune, Sept. 20, 2008]Reduce property values—Prospective homebuyers reject home sites near speed humps. [Source: Tampa Bay Online, Sept. 30, 2009]Increase noise levels—Speed humps usher in a constant barrage of scraping cars and engines revving over the humps. [Source: Tampa Bay Online, Aug. 12, 2009] Increase wear and tear on residential and commercial vehicles—Speed humps are a source of excessive wear on tires, brakes, suspension systems, shock absorbers and rattle dashboards. [Source: The Natchez Democrat, Oct. 28, 2009] Expensive to remove—Municipalities, under pressure by citizens and enforced by the courts, have been forced to remove speed humps at great expense to tax payers. [Source: Tampa Bay Online, Sept. 30, 2009]Increase air pollution—On roads with speed humps, carbon monoxide emissions increase by 82 percent, carbon dioxide emissions double and nitrogen oxide increases by 37 percent. [Source: BBC.com, April 22, 2009] Reduce fuel efficiency and increase gas consumption—By forcing drivers to brake and accelerate repeatedly, speed humps will cause a car that normally that gets 58.15 mpg travelling at a steady 30mph to deliver only 30.85 mpg. Well Geoff, so pleased that you agree, I have been saying hello to a few sherbets this evening and what a joy it continues to be, bit like my RX and XKR to be honest. Ostensibly there should be no connection between the pub and the car but there is. Both we use now and again, both are warm and inviting, both cost a packet if used regularly, both get us into trouble if we're not careful and both remind us happiness is got from what you have and not what you want. 😐 -

That's a quality Friday rant Linas 😁

Great comment Linas, it's this all pervasive absolution of evidence and reality that continues to baffle me. As I referred to in an earlier post, Problem - lack of spending /footfall in town centres, Answer - increase parking charges, rates and regulations and Pave over the centre roads. Or, speed bumps producing more No2, or certain parts of the country that do not want people in cars but do want their cash 🎶

But Geoff, you started off by saying how marvellous the 450 is 😅 which then led onto the future of the design possibilities and the great unknown just like the weather. In the Jaguar club you are known as an Oily rag or a Polisher and in the Lexus club I suspect most are the latter because as you say, what's to go wrong "? So what's to chat about? Well anything and everything, bit like being down the pub, and when asked," what did you chat about " answer is haven't the foggiest 😅 -
I see 👍a budding Jackson Pollock no doubt 🎨
