Which was my point exactly Linas. You now have a third party adjudicating on what is in or out 😕. They have no brand allegiance per se purely a mechanistic profit and loss account so whether it's Toyota, Lexus, Audi etc makes not a jot of difference. -

Lexus Relax (10 year/100,000 mile warranty)

I thought this an interesting response from Toyota 🤔 Hi. This is an excellent bit of aftercare and will be a factor influencing potential buyers in making the decision to go with a Lexus vehicle. I currently have a GSF with a Lexus extended warranty (just over a year remaining). It is booked in for a service next week and have been told that I should be able to cancel the remaining year of the extended warranty and be given a refund. I will of course need to separately take out road side assistance which was included as part of the extended warranty. I have been looking at the T&Cs to ensure that Lexus Relax gives the same cover against defects as the extended warranty, but this is pretty difficult as relax gives an exhaustive list of what is covered whereas the extended warranty only states what is excluded. As I read it the extended warranty appears to be more comprehensive, e.g. the exclusion of rubber components by Lexus Relax does not apply to the extended warranty. For example, the GSF has sophisticated electronically controlled suspension/shock absorbers and a defect with these would not appear to be covered by Relax whereas they would with the extended warranty. It is also not clear whether the electrical elements of those components is covered by Relax? Could you please advise whether my interpretation is correct and if possible give a summary of differences. It would be really useful to have a matrix on the website, showing all the differences between the two warranties. As it is, I don’t feel fully confident that I would be quite as well covered if I cancel my extended warranty. Thank in advance, Paul Reply Toyota UKsays: 29 July 2021 at 9:52 am Hi Paul, Thanks for getting in touch. We are waiting on information from our warranty team, but we can answer certain parts of your query now. Rubber components within the suspension – these are classed as wear and tear items in the Relax warranty, so aren’t covered. Electrical elements within the suspension – these are covered under the Relax warranty, if the issue develops as a result of a manufacturing defect. In terms of the other differences between the two, we’ll have to get back to you, but we don’t expect there to be many. Thanks So as of 11 days ago even Toyota don't have an answer? As I recall mentioning at the outset Warranty is now being handled by a global US multinational and at a local implementation level (UK) will have little say over what's in or what's out. Fraught conversations ahead I guess 🤔 -

"A report from the University of Stirling last September shows that harmful particulate matter emissions, also known as PM2.5, remained consistent during the first month of lockdown, despite a 65 per cent decline in the number of vehicles on Scotland’s roads. The study concluded that ‘traffic is not a key contributor to outdoor air pollution’ – and went on to warn that people ‘may be at greater risk from air pollution in their own homes’. 🤔 -
I think Martin your comment is a little unfair. Toyota/lexus have committed a huge sum for iniatives to address this scourge such as smar****er marking. And this trade is across various manufacturers not just Toyota. So maybe our invective should be addressed to the vermin that do it and law enforcement not getting a proper grip on the processors. 🤔

And there you get to the true heart of the matter - money. For years there have been firms who advise insurance companies on how to avoid paying claims when pitted against you an individual😳. But as John says the contract is the contract is the contract. Although insurance is mandatory firm's are not so change your choice. And perhaps now will be a good time to survey the club for their experience of good or slippery firms.

How so John? It's highly unlikely that I shall pass 100k before my current EW/Service plan package expires (March 24)but it will exceed the 10 year rule so Relax is void. So my EW for 23/24 which I paid for? End of missive, I have just answered my own question 🙋 -
Hmmm? I suspect it's light reflecting from the wife's make up mirror she lost ages ago 🤣

Service costs

What are your immediate priorities Geoff? Annualised running costs, including tax, insurance, Mpg etc. Or reliability because of your individual needs, or subjective, feel good stuff such as comfort, looks, status etc. Assuming you own all the asset you could sell and with the cash buy a new vehicle with service included for the next 3/5 years but would you be happy? You have had the privilege of driving a luxury SUV and trading down on that experience is a big call for most people but you may be different 🤔 -

Excellent insights Paul and I for one would be very miffed if shocks not included with EW as I have 2 and 1/2 years to go on my EW. -
But Malc, that's exactly the point 🎉 your lineage will not inherit the same label of being the "most fortunate generation" so by and large, won't have similar opportunities to hang onto their earnings. Hence the only avenue left will be to take it from you and remember it will be their turn to be making the rules.😱. And your Ls400? Well I forsee a time when owning/driving such a thing will attract the same sort of social opprobrium as a statue of Cecil Rhodes😒. Only answer is to get Damien Hirst to deconstruct it, pickle it in formaldehyde and show it at the Tate Modern 🤗🤗🤗

But if you haven't Paul then how will you know? 🤔🤣🤣

Great explanation Alex, thanks, in your experience might processes such as Terraclean resolve an issue?

You raise some interesting points Barry, in respect of car and house they are my choice, it's not mandatory, money is not taken from me before I see it! And when say an insurance company compensate for a catastrophic event I don't recall ever anyone calling for them to be lauded? As to insurance costing more am I correct in thing the French system has better outcomes and costs less than UK NI, which everyone knows is not a hypothecated tax but another layer of general taxation? As to the NHS being underfunded well this has been the cry every single year I, or anyone else can recall, but with hundreds and hundreds of employees now getting more than the Prime Minister it's hardly surprising. Finally you are an advocate of paying more tax, let me leave you with two thoughts, current levels of taxation are now at the highest level since Harold Wilson about 62%, in the next 5 years current changes alone, already on the books will mean CGT and IHT receipts will rise by 41%. So any grand thoughts about leaving your family in a comfortable place just may have to be tempered somewhat. Unless of course you take the appropriate steps to shield yourself from the worst in which case you will labelled as a vile person😊

Good morning Piers and so you are now part of a select group, not only as a lexus owner but a MRI veteran 😎 Glad you agreed about the eye mask I couldn't have managed without, makes me full of admiration for submariners ☺️. And now, my friend, you can advise others in a similar situation, best wishes for a positive outcome. 👍

Especially the 7th cavalry John weren't they led by a chap called George Armstrong Custer? 🐴🐴🐴😂

Wasn't he a friend of Admiral Nelson? 😅

Valid points Malc but it's not heaven you need to thank it's the taxpayer who funds the enterprise. Under PAYE I chipped in for almost 50 years and continue to do so in retirement at a very handsome rate thank you very much says HMRC. (NOT!). So who's for a thank you day for the hard-pressed tax payer? 👏
