  1. Perhaps you are recalling John, Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skills 😂
  2. Actually John using bread, the staff of life, is an interesting metaphor for petrol being the staff of mobility if you will. What I also know is that when you make bread as I do you end up with a superior product at a vastly cheaper price. Great pity therefore we can't make our own fuel. But when you do stump up £3 ish for an "artisnal" loaf you would expect a superior product to a Morrisons essential loaf for a quid wouldn't you?
  3. I was having a nice morning, studiously avoided any news, and then I read your comment Steve 🤣
  4. Article in papers today Steve from your area with big success story. Car full of stolen cats, a trailer, a caravan all apprehended at the same site now I wonder which upstanding section of society we're on the site? Oddly enough not mentioned in the article. 🤔
  5. Coming from Staffordshire, as indeed I am originally, I know you to be level-headed and always value, value for money decisions. In the current market buying a RX450H circa 12-15 k means you will suffer minimal costs over say 2 years. Buying any new car means dramatic depreciation during the first 24 months far more than the rx450h will. So your decision is simple, buy a RX450H, keep it for 2 years then decide what you want to do, knowing its cost you less. 😎
  6. Bought them from magpie for next to nothing 👍
  7. I know John, but to call someone "empty-headed" doesn't actually mean their head is empty of matter but that thoughts contained in the matter are empty, synonyms:void, vacuity, nothingness, vacuum😎, ergo sounds will travel given those conditions 🙋
  8. Hi Brian, firstly apologies, for an overly curt and poorly phrased comment. What I perhaps should have said is, you already appear to have made up your mind but procrastinating on actually carrying it forward? I have been driving one now for 7 months and I have say its just great. I wrote a comment after 3 months as to my real world experience which you can dig out on here.
  9. But unbelievably John you do see it from time to time, clearly there is a void between the ears and headphones are needed to fill the vacuum. 🎧
  10. Is it me Brian, but what's the point you are making? Fish or cut bait as our colonial friends might say 😎
  11. Yes, I was emailed offering 5k off a pre reg 300e 🤔
  12. On your second point Malc the less said the better 🤣 on your first point how are you using the word "appreciate"? If you mean from an aesthetic point of view I am with you on that one. If however it's in a financial sense going from £350 to £375 doesn't quite hack it 🤑🤑🤑
  13. If I didn't know better Chris I would think you were from the DOT 😎. You are correct to say duty, as a percentage applied hasn't changed but the actual amount extracted from the motorist is hugely different. Just because OPEC raises prices why should the motorist pay more duty in real terms? The amount of VED I pay isn't dependant on how many miles I drive nor is my MOT or my annual service cost for that matter.
  14. A perfection of means, and confusion of aims, seems to be our main problem. ― Albert Einstein
  15. Couldn't agree more David. A friend of mine is just trading in his 3 Yr old Renault Kadjar for another new one in the Renault range, he has lost 10k in the process and is on the hook for another 3 years 😱.
  16. I recently bought wd silicone, not std Wd40, it's a super product that really works
  17. Over the years I have had no end of new cars, company and private and like you came to my senses a few years ago when I bought an XKR, 10 years old (some may disagree 😁. Right now I estimate I have been cost neutral over the period,so happy days. With my RX I currently estimate a loss of 3/4 k over the next 3 years which to me is an acceptable cost of ownership. But with PCP I don't see much said about the downsides. Firstly, it's a PERSONAL loan you are undertaking therefore any changes in your personal circumstances still means you are on the hook for the total contractual balance unlike say HP which allows you to sell the asset. Secondly, the expectation is you will return the vehicle in say 3 years in an almost perfect state otherwise you risk huge charges for restitution (and excess mileage) despite the fact most companies don't bother doing the work they just charge you. Thirdly, PCP has all the elements of becoming the next PPI mis selling scandal where accusations of mis leading claims around possible equity and interest rate charges abound. Conclusion, if you do high mileage PCP isn't for you, if you do minimum mileage and a vehicle is not critical to your lifestyle then PCP is a very expensive and risk laden way of being mobile. If however, you are addicted, as with crack cocaine, to the smells of a new car then why not, it's your money. 🤑
  18. Ah, well deduced Brian, many thanks 👍
  19. 4 services equate to 4 years unless you're doing the miles, in which case why only 2 Mot's Gordon? Also with my 3 year plan I have it in writing that's its transferable, so that only leaves the unknown of if your dealer stops selling Lexus in that case I shall invoke a Section 75
  20. Ah, the delights of reading the misguided thoughts of someone who needs more schooling in Aristotilian logic particularly syllogisms😎. Even a cursory look will inform you of the most recent figures ie including 2021 for both firms. I don't recall anyone mentioning a calendar/accounting year do you? And I don't recall switching anything 🤔I. I merely pointed out if you were negotiating with two companies, of which one was showing a significant loss who do you think has the weakest position? Bear in mind that this line of comment originally started out by essentially saying how can Costco, a shopkeeper, possibly have a technically equivalent offering to a specialist like Shell? The complete irony here is, as Costco seeks to widen it's automotive product offerings, witness, oil fuel, tyres batteries etc Shell on the other hand are showing a headlong rush towards non fossil fuels. I for one, have both gas and electricity from them.
  21. Here in the UK we would love to pay 98 pence a litre 🤑
  22. Since you like Americanisms Pilgrim, get with the programme! My figures are based on 2021 numbers which by and large show Shells huge losses are broadly equivalent to Costco huge profits. Now before I get off my horse and drink my milk as a negotiator who do you think has the best hand? 💪
  23. The tradegy Dublet is where there was once the "professional sales person that role has now slowly been split into two. Firstly, into the order taker who offers no real expertise, guidance or personal interaction, thus that role is being subsumed by technology. Secondly, here the word has changed from salesman to consultant. Now the advice you got for free previously from the professional salesman is now being charged for at a rate of up to £1200 a day /hour. So who's the real loser here I wonder?
  24. Perfect 👍see my response to Dublet
