  1. Vlad! Alongside draught Pedigree having a rant is one of the greatest pleasures in life 🥳
  2. A great read Linas with only one contentious point that of WW2. This country borrowed huge amounts to fund the war and only paid off during the nineties if I recall. A substantial amount went into the rebuilding the countries mentioned at the expense of this country's infrastructure.
  3. It did in fact happen Linas, headline - "Repatriated profits total $465 billion after Trump tax cuts - leaving $2.5 trillion overseasPublished: Sept. 19, 2018 at 1:02 p.m. ET" But my point is the same, even the $2.5 trn overseas is invested somewhere mainly in sound investments providing predictable returns for pension companies. And yes Apple has 230bn in cash but you fail to mention is has 74bn in long term debt and has committed to investing $430bn in the USA - don't you just love figures? 👍
  4. 😅 Just like the the old arguments about Hi-fi 🙉
  5. 😱😱😱, that's going to be half my energy bill 😱😱😱😱
  6. The dog food industry in the UK is worth half as much again as the cycling industry (so size doesn't matter) yet I see no industry lobby for owning more dogs. Yet the physical and mental benefits for people are well known. As to the tax raising amounts from employees, well that's the same point on-line firms Amazon et al and are using and get hammered for it 😎
  7. Saturday rant over Vlad? 🤣
  8. Brazil has a corporate tax rate of around 35% had they moved there would that make them more ethical 😅
  9. Fag packet maths, 655,000 x av UK salary of 28k =?
  10. I love the concept of "theoretically due" 🤣. Knowing HMRC as I do I can see this number as being part of an eloquently argued submission for bigger budgets 🥳
  11. And what do these corporates/individuals do with these "ill-gotten" gains exactly? Hide it under the bed so no one can see it, use it? 😊
  12. But these arguments are based on the premis that the size of the state in all forms does not decrease but increases over time. Why? Where are the true conservatives arguing for a reduced involvement in people's lives.?
  13. For the avoidance of doubt Bill tax avoidance is perfectly legal (I assume you accept your 12,750 tax free allowance). But evasion is not, so I certainly would not alledge certain multi nationals fall into the latter category. 🤔. I would be keen to understand more about the £35bn, who made the statement, how was it arrived at, or is it yet another divisive statement.
  14. Hurrah for Bill 🥳🥳🥳
  15. Why this obsession with constantly brow beating people through taxation Bill? It's insane! Hard working people are already at 62%, working more than half a year before they can keep their own money it can't go on.
  16. Just think for a moment about some of the phrases used in cricket 😅
  17. Why? Because of the very nature of the opinions offered by Malc namely, in no particular order of precedence, 1-being happy to pay tax on additional vehicles despite only driving one at a time. 2- the NHS is a great institution, despite employing the second highest public sector number of employees in the democratic world, still has six year waiting lists. 3- that cyclists should pay more in tax than I do for either my RX450H or Jaguar XKR 4 - I will agree to the principle of crushing when it also applies to caravans owned by certain sections of society
  18. That's a hornets nest 🤣
  19. Of course they don't Piers. But by being deliberately vague it allows all sorts of "experts" to offer their opinions which they know they will never ever be held accountable for, just look at the Sage predictions - absolute charlatans
  20. Think I read somewhere that with EV's it will be easier to implement a tax per mile travelled system as it can be calculated from a combination of inputs. This of course means clever hackers will already be designing work-arounds 😊
  21. That's a pretty jaundiced view of the West Linas! Although you probably know that my starting point is all taxation is theft 😱 I recall that in the UK some years ago the same technique was used to persuade people to stop smoking saying it would save the NHS a small fortune. Outcome = lost tobacco revenues made up by increasing other taxes and despite the millions who stopped smoking the NHS still gets huge increases.
  22. I have use of two cars Anthony yet I am obliged to tax and insurance both yet I can only drive one at a time.!
  23. I have used the much loved wokey left phrase to act as my topic title. Why you might ask? Well because of this extraordinary article - https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-01-26/charging-your-ev-from-flat-to-full-can-cost-240-or-nothing For those people in the South East without home chargers it looks like this will add to their "cost of living crisis" no end 😱
