  1. London, 13 February - Net Zero Watch has warned that current plans to dramatically expand industrial solar farms on farmland across across Britain is a serious threat to UK agriculture and food security. Drawing on new data from the solar industry the campaign group has revealed that an astonishing 37,000 MW of land based solar PV capacity is in pre-planning and planning in the UK. If built, this would take 150,000 acres of farmland – or 75,000 football pitches – out of production at a time when Britain has less farmland in use than at any time since 1945, and is losing such land to industrial and other uses at the rate of about 99,000 acres a year, increasing import dependency. This is an excerpt from Net Zero Watch. Com's latest press release. I offer it up as yet another sleight of hand from the green insanity all around (unlike farmland shortly) ! It's worth a perusal. I confess an interest here as I have good friends who are farmers and I am a member of the GWPF. 😎
  2. The statistical probability of your house burning down is remote but you still have house insurance against it because of the risk/cost judgment. For me lexus servicing is the same, for example if your local garage offered you an add-on warranty for £8 per month might you consider it especially if they guaranteed you OEM parts? I recently had rear trailing arm replaced and very glad it was warranty covered. But like any investment depends entirely on your attitude to risk.
  3. Stoli is not a bad drink, touch oily for me maybe because it's no longer made in Russia? I had a bottle of Whitley vanilla flavoured vodka, AWFUL 😱😱😱, Although as a brand they do make some quaffable stuff. And Aldis French vodka, Geront puts on a good showing. My weakness however is Rum 🥳.
  4. Now Vlad, I thought you might have reccomended Zyntia, or Wyborowa or maybe Zubrowka 🍻🤣
  5. No need to apologise old chap. If you use voice to text or if English isn't your first language or any other method of getting your message across so what? The point is you are making a contribution and that's welcome.
  6. Crikey Dan, I certainly felt the edge of that particular blade 🤣. I suspect they might argue you just don't understand the size of the Gordanian knot that they have to deal with every day, after all, all you represent is being part of the very knot. 😎
  7. Reading the IEA conclusion doesn't it have the same echoes of mandated control as wearing face masks? Despite evidence to the contrary people are being "nudged" into directions by emotional blkmail - do it, its good for the planet, other people, it's your duty etc, you know the routine.
  8. We are in violent agreement Colin, in the triangular metaphor for life I represent the foundational layer like most people. All I am asking/seeking /foi - ing/attempting to discover where the true facts lie, and seeking any authors sub-agenda I believe to be part of the investigative process.
  9. No one mentioned the times Malc? You must be a Guardian reader 🤣
  10. As if living and driving in London wasn't hard enough, from today's papers; "Using a risk-based approach to identify sites to lower speed limits, TfL says that four 20mph speed limits will be introduced. This will include the A10 – A503 corridor in Haringey, the A13 Commercial Road in Tower Hamlets, the A23 London Road in Croydon and the A107 corridor in Hackney. More to follow. 😕
  11. If it's of any use a few years ago I had to make a decision between a XK8 or XKR. Had I chosen the former I just know every time I saw an R on the road it would've been " now I wish I had........... 😭
  12. When a firm such as Volvo funds such a report how much credence can we honestly have? And CO 2 is still being promoted as the worst kind of pollutant when it's essential to all life on the planet. But for balance here is an another expert, and an excerpt from his recent report. Gautam Kalghatgi is a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and the Society of Automotive Engineers. He has been a visiting professor at Oxford Uni- versity, Imperial College, Sheffield University, KTH Stockholm and TU Eindhoven. He has 39 years of experience in combustion, fuels, engine and energy research; 31 years with Shell and 8 years with Saudi Aramco. "Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) are not zero emission. Battery manufacture is both energy intensive and greenhouse gas inten- sive. On a lifecycle basis, including vehicle manufacture, use and disposal, BEVs with large batteries could have worse emissions than comparable conventional vehicles, although smaller BEVs in areas with low-carbon electricity supplies will have lower but non-zero emissions than comparable conventional cars. • The very serious health issues associated with mining for met- als are simply exported away from where the BEV is used. Particu- late emissions can be almost eliminated in modern engines. That being the case, tyre wear will soon become the dominant source of particulates, and will be much higher for BEVs because of their greater weight. • Even if BEV numbers in the UK increase to ten million by 2030, when the proposed ban on the sale of new cars with internal combustion engines (ICEs) comes into force, around 80% of all transport and 70% of cars and vans will still run on fossil fuels. The ban will simply exclude UK customers from access to any further improvements in ICE technology. If enough people do not buy BEVs because of high up-front costs and charging anxiety, the UK automotive industry will be destroyed."
  13. As always Peter too many "experts" chasing their version of the facts /truth. Will us ordinary people ever really know? Irrespective of the answer it's clear that the end objective is to control how often you will be allowed to travel justified using the climate change farago.
  14. Of the thousands of LOC members most, like you, do keep quiet, and that's a great shame. In a few weeks from now I will have been on this site for one year 🥳. I have found the practical vehicle advice and information hugely invaluable and unavailable from any other source. In addition the exchange of opinions/thoughts/ideas /assertions etc be they accurate or inaccurate to be joy 🍻. Especially the cut and thrust with certain individuals with whom I have never felt other than pure interest in their position on topics and never once experienced personal slight. To be proven wrong is one of life's great pursuits (much better than fox hunting) for in that you learn life-long lessons. I believe that the LOC is mostly 😉, full of educated, responsible articulate people who keep their powder dry far too long. So if you feel strongly about a particular topic load up your musket with rounded opinions and join the fray, your LOC needs you ☝️🙂
  15. That's odd I recall quoting this a few posts ago : There were 2,491 recorded collisions between cyclists and pedestrians (where no other vehicle was involved) that resulted in a pedestrian casualty between 2011-2016, of which 20 were fatal and 546 resulted in serious injury. I am unable at the moment to find more current reliable evidence
  16. Could not agree more, as I said earlier to Malc if we encouraged more to understand life isn't fair they would be more happier
  17. Bill, antagonism is an emotional response and therefore is the very antithesis of logic. And if drivers were not risk averse they wouldn't wear sear belts 😎.
  18. Grey, my dear old thing grey 😎
  19. "getting cyclists out of the way of motorists when lights change." Crikey Bill, have you read the latest hierarchy of Road users? 😱
  20. Bill, I always eagerly await your posts 🥳 but in this instance it seems you are away with the "woke" faeries 😎. In addition to an illogical syllogism you append an ad hominem 😱. I read today in the USA the government is making "safe smoking kits" available for drug users on the tax payers dollar. In other words let's forgo existing criminal law. Now let's guess where this will lead? When Bill Bratton and Rudy Guliana drove down criminal activity in NYC it was predicated on zero tolerance. The smallest graffiti, shoplifting a broken window wasn't seen to be acceptable, jumping red lights?
  21. I can always rely on you Linas to present a cogent case, I deferred to contribute in this instance as I need to wash my hair 😎
  22. The GMP article was just a snapshot of what I suspect is happening in every town in the UK. And I can see no material equivalence between GMP efficacy and this article. Unless of course you are suggesting they ignore these offences because they aren't significant enough? For some proper context from a Gov. UK consultation paper: There were 2,491 recorded collisions between cyclists and pedestrians (where no other vehicle was involved) that resulted in a pedestrian casualty between 2011-2016, of which 20 were fatal and 546 resulted in serious injury. 1.7 We acknowledge that it is not possible to create total parity. We do not intend to introduce a testing, licensing or insurance regime for cyclists; the costs and complexity of introducing such a system would significantly outweigh the benefits. Nor do we propose to introduce penalty points for cyclists. A system of penalty points for cycling offences would require a record to be held or the creation of a new cycling licence regime. This could inadvertently discourage many people from taking up cycling, and unfairly burden the vast majority of law-abiding cyclists. However, this consultation considers whether any new cycling offences should carry minimum driving disqualification periods. So from the last para we can deduce cyclists can sleep safely in their Lycra 😎
  23. Maybe this latest news has more effect ; "In recent days, police forces across England have posted on social media about stopping cyclists for not obeying the rules of the road. Greater Manchester Police said that in a 90-minute window, officers stopped 30 cyclists who had “ridden straight through red traffic lights”. Apparently cycling groups think it's unfair 🤔
  24. A wise father in law Pete. Now if we instilled this into more people ironically I think that they would be much happier 😎
  25. You and your car must be good for another 20 at least 🤣
