  1. I use duckduckgo.com, have done for ages. They recently offered a beta email tracker cover via a proxy email address. So when you are asked for an email addy you can give them a fully protected one. Great stuff!
  2. Yes, great shame that Herbs but even at 6.6 over 23 interest element should be around 106?
  3. Forgot to ask Herbs how does 70k grow to 264k? At interest rates at the time 70k over 25 years should be around 148k?
  4. Well done Herbs, I am sure you and your wife are well content with the situation and free of any money worries. There are lots of things to worry about when you get older and money shouldn't be one of them. And don't forget you still own 100% of your home and when you come up on the Pools or Lottery you can sort out the balance.😎 I personally am deeply invested in Premium Bonds which are luckily showing me a double digit return.
  5. What you say Steve makes perfect academic sense but I can also say there's nothing more liberating to the mind than having no debt to anyone. 🥳
  6. There are three kinds of people: the haves, the have-nots, and the have-not-paid-for-what-they-haves.”, smart journalist, Earl Wilson 😎
  7. Well Tim Allen, he of Tool Time said, women are like cars ; we all want a Ferrari, sometimes we need a pick-up truck, and end up with a station wagon 🤣
  8. You are so right my friend. And you are probably referring to Epictetus who wrote, "Most of what passes for legitimate entertainment is inferior or foolish and only caters to or exploits people's weaknesses. Avoid being one of the mob who indulges in such pastimes. Your life is too short and you have important things to do. Be discriminating about what images and ideas you permit into your mind. If you yourself don't choose what thoughts and images you expose yourself to, someone else will, and their motives may not be the highest. It is the easiest thing in the world to slide imperceptibly into vulgarity. But there's no need for that to happen if you determine not to waste your time and attention on mindless pap.” ― Epictetus, The Art of Living: The Classical Manual on Virtue, Happiness and Effectiveness My goodness he must have had an insight into our current times 😱
  9. I admire your fortitude Steve, you remind me of an ancient Greek proverb " the tree that faces the strongest wind grows the deepest roots" Best wishes Phil. 😎
  10. As I am due in Western Greece tomorrow I thought I might catch up on some wise Greek sayings - you never know! Whilst I am doing this the word "proverbs" popped in my head. And then recalled being taught these at home and at school never recognising or appreciating this transfer of ancient wisdom. So my question is, are these being taught today? I suspect not, this vast compendium of empirical knowledge essential to helping you guide your way through life's up and downs. Perhaps if they were mandated some people might realise life's travails are not unique to them but universal through the ages. No man ever steps in the same river twice, is my favourite from Hereclitus.
  11. You take your dog to the gym? That's interesting, what does he like most? 😎
  12. "They all, I agree, work their butts off …. All 1.25mln NHS employees do so" Really Malc? But then I remembered last year NHS employees took 27,000,000, (twenty seven million), days off citing sickness 😱. No wonder they work hard making up for the ones not being there. If on average people work 230 days a year I shall leave you to work out the obvious 🤯
  13. And here I was thinking you wrote "You are most likely right... the question is what those security services are doing." Because if you did it sounds like posing a question without wishing to know the answer? Without knowing your definition of security services as applicable to "across the world" I am sure it would cover those countries with no right to assemble, protest etc which this country has. And only recently the service in charge of protecting this particular realm publicly declared that they had foiled numerous plots, for which we all should say thank you
  14. Well if you and others knew what the security services were doing it wouldn't be very secure would it? 🤔
  15. I agree, that's novo virus 🤣
  16. Sounds pretty spectacular Pete, especially the Douro valley for some of best wines in the world at knock out prices 🍷🍷🍷
  17. What route from Wiltshire did you take if you don't mind me asking? 😎
  18. Good Heavens! A sensible, articulate comment, what ever is this world coming too? 😅
  19. I seem to recall Anthony Dyer covered this off in one of his many vids?
  20. Think of it in time passing Malc, if you counted one per second then one trillion seconds of ordinary clock time =( 1012 sec)/( 3.16 x 107 sec/yr) = 31,546 years! About the same time ago as the first pottery known on planet earth 😱
  21. Not quite sure how Latin can be the "mother" when Greek not only preceded it by more than two thousand years but thousands of Latin words are loaned from ancient Greek! As to yoghurt, well, it's a living, vibrant ecosystem that can only be fully appreciated when consumed by a similar energised body 🤣
  22. "Ten soldiers wisely led can overcome 100 without a head", Euripides When I read comments from people like your good self who has laid out good money I am reminded of this ancient Greek observation on life. Just look at the competitive landscape and you get this nagging feeling we are mired in latent emotional fondness. Bit like refusing to accept your dear Mama was not the best cook in the entire world 😎
  23. Interesting point Malc, are you saying a 40 +year old car, assuming well cared for, would fetch less today than then? I do recall being offered in the seventies a CKD E-type, released from the Suez canal embargo for £1500 which I declined , one of my many errors of judgement 🤣
  24. I think a Greek said something similar a few years ago 😎*Stop the excuses and the procrastination. This is your life! You aren’t a child anymore…. The longer you wait, the more you’ll be vulnerable to mediocrity and feel filled with shame and regret, because you know you are capable of better. From this instant on, vow to stop disappointing yourself. Separate yourself from the mob. Decide to be extraordinary and do what you need to do – now.” – Epictetus
