It anyway does not make sense that a car which costs 72,900 euros pays only 280 euros and my 2004 Prius which is maybe worth 1,000 euros pays 413 euros and certainly does not pollute more than a 3.5cc engine. Motor tax should be based on emissions but also on the value of the car. Why a 2006 GS450H which costs 4,000 euros should pay 1,809 euros while it has the same emissions of a 2008/10 model and especially its value is much lower after 15 years? The second hand market in Ireland is full of cars with big engines and in excellent conditions with accessible prices but that nobody buys because of the ridiculous motor tax.
