Migrating from Lexus to Toyota
Joe43 replied to Joe43's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Right, firstly I had an Auris 1.8 hybrid estate for 3 years prior to the Lexus so will include that in my comparisons. Auris was slow struggling at times on inclines and not great for overtaking, you had to work it hard for any results. The ride was ok but still felt like a small car. 3 years motoring and it needed nothing but servicing and a new set of tyres. Overall MPG 59. Lexus was a transformation with plenty of power and appealing looks. I had the Advance model with lots of toys and really comfortable leather seats. It's the one and only car I was proud of and received lots of positive comments. Ride was always on the firm side and you knew it was a heavy well built car. Parking on an incline made it a challenge to open the heavy doors at times, I'm not getting any younger. Overall mpg 48. Corolla, early days and first impressions are very positive. It feels bang up to date, looks sharp in gleaming red paintwork, drives well and gives me all the space I need. I've quickly found a good seating position and instantly feel at home. Basic Icon model with no satnav, wing mirrors you fold manually and fewer electric toys. I'm old school and don't mind that one bit. Been told it's easy to setup google maps from my mobile with bang up to date maps unlike my Lexus. It's a lively car, feels much lighter and more nimble than the Lexus and has so much more power than the Auris. Deliberately stayed in Eco mode on a local incline with no trouble, one that I had to work hard in the Auris. Technology advancements, this has lithium hybrid batteries, have really transformed a dull 1.8 hybrid to one that gives me total confidence. The ride is a big improvement over both the Auris and Lexus, as mentioned the Auris felt like a small car and Lexus was on the firm side but this Corolla has a big car ride and is so much smoother. Have noticed the Corolla is much quicker to drive in electric only mode and even on the motorway travelling in traffic at a steady 65, very impressive. So far I'm totally happy with my choice. -
Sadly migrating from a Lexus IS300h to Toyota Corolla estate. Enjoyed every minute of the IS300h but needed more boot space and larger opening, clincher was not being able to put 2 large suitcases in the boot. I was in no rush and selected a handful of cars to test; Rav4 Corolla Kia Optima Kia Proceed and Hyundai i30 all estates. Narrowed down to 2 the Rav4 & Corolla. Not a fan of SUV's but have to say the Rav4 is a surprisingly good drive but ultimately Corolla Estate or "Sports Touring" came out top. I will really miss the looks of the IS300h, the comfortable seats with cooling air, the sheer fact it was a Lexus with all round touches of luxury and ultra relaxed driving experience, could move when needed too. Nothing would put me off buying another but currently Lexus are pushing towards a full SUV offering and as mentioned I'm not a fan. My IS300h gave me first ever profit, bought for £13500 part-exing for £14750 but all cars are silly prices now and I'm fully aware the Corolla estate has a premium price which will hurt when things slip back to normal. This site has been invaluable to me as a first time Lexus owner and I will keep having a nosey now and then, keep up the good work everyone.

1.8 I used to have an Auris 1.8 estate hybrid which struggled at times but the Corolla 1.8 is fine. -

and why not, you enjoy one of the best SUV's money can buy. When you stop smiling enough to take some photos please let us see the beast. Sadly I'm not a fan of SUV's and Lexus offer little else lately so am migrating to Toyota. Pick up a 2021 Corolla estate later next week. -
2019 IS300h F-Sport, straw poll - thanks

Hi David, Have a look at Lexus Pre-owned cars site and compare nationwide; https://usedcars.lexus.co.uk/en/home There's currently a cracking F Sport 2020 at Leicester with less miles for just over £30000. Hope this helps. -
What a cracking car you have especially in that blue gorgeous. I considered a Stinger before buying my IS300h last year, test drove a couple of Lexus cars, always wanted a Lexus and thought I could live with one. Love the relaxed driving combined with power mode when needed for me it's the perfect combination. I just wish they had an estate version or even a comparable hatchback, the small boot opening has forced me to ask favours too often for my liking. Not a fan of the SUV so am really interested how you enjoy the Stinger.

Lexus is300h newcomer questions.

I would just add; Ask the dealer to check the 12v battery it is this cars achilles heel. I leave the car in Economy mode, it's easier than Normal mode to keep in electric drive when tootling around and just needs a quick flick to Power mode when needed. Tend to stay in Power mode on the motorway. Ask the dealer if the Sat Nav is up to date and spend a good half hour learning how to use it, works well but can be frustrating at first. Enjoy it's a great car. -
Impressive Hope the NX350h gives the same level of reliability.

Time to Say Goodbye...

That's a shame but there comes a time when throwing money at a car is futile. Just curious how old is it and how long have you enjoyed the car? -
Would an ex-demo or nearly new model be an option?
-
Quite possibly, I still think there has to come a time when the current cost of petrol, gas, electric, houses, cars etc hurts. House prices especially where all it needs is a rise in interest rates.
-
Prices are defying gravity in my view, new cars, used cars, houses etc. When will the increase in cost of living kick in?

One year of ownership & still loving my IS300h

Good to hear Steve. Bought mine a year ago and still love it, just wish there was an estate version or schiessewagen hehe. -
Quick update. Today Lexus Leeds replaced internal intrusion sensor, collected car this morning brought it back mid afternoon fully valeted with new sensor. Very impressed with their service.
-
Bought my IS300h in Dec last year and not had any problems until a couple of weeks ago when the alarm went off for no reason. Happened twice first during the day when just the alarm sounded then the following night when alarm, lights and horn sounded. Took car to Lexus Leeds and after checking it over have arranged to replace the alarm this Thursday under warranty. Not sure if it's part of or all of the alarm they are replacing but will report back.

First Look at the Lexus IS300H

If coasting downhill you can get very close to 50mph in economy electric mode but as soon as you touch the accelerator the engine kicks in. Can't really give a range as it varies so much, warm weather helps and if you have a route with plenty of long downhill stretches I reckon 5 miles. Anytime you need to climb, the shortest dab on the throttle will bring in the engine but it is smooth and virtually unnoticeable. Even when the engine kicks in you benefit from the electric motor. Just don't expect to be running around just in electric mode it's not designed for that. -
Each to their own I just don't see the need for the paddle shifters and it maybe my clumsy big hands but I have caught them when steering. You have paid for them though Colin just like everything else on the car and if they ever fail it won't be a cheap fix.

Posted Thursday at 05:37 PM Time for a quick update now I've had chance to get to know the Lexus. Overall very pleased still love the styling, comfort and relaxed driving. Averaging a shade over 49mpg since purchase, my figures, and this can only increase going into the warmer weather and no more lockdown short journeys I hope. Compared to the Auris hybrid it replaced the IS300h is streets ahead, have learned to stay in Eco mode until Sport is needed and now look foward to hills. These are the only modes I use as in Normal you need the touch of a surgeon to prevent the engine engaging. Eco is very similar to Normal in the Auris. Plus points for me; Styling, have had many positive comments since buying Economy and relaxed cruising in slow moving traffic, I considered a Mustang before buying but realised they are totally unsuitable for our congested and speed limiting roads. So comfortable Sport mode always puts a smile on my face. Change lane indicators, great idea which took minutes to learn and work. Keyless entry and starting The boot just takes my golf bag width ways without having to remove clubs £10 road tax hehe. Minus points Paddle shifters what's the point? Boot is a good size but the opening is very limiting. The ride could be better, not great on our ever deteriorating roads. I will have to test a 2017 upgrade. Infotainment just about works but could be and should be improved. Lexus dropping the model for UK, if I want to stay loyal my only option is a Corolla 2.0 estate with nothing on the horizon. Finally a couple of minor issues, the fan is noisy giving a rattling sound at times with a one-off WWII siren on start up which increased in volume and pitch as I increased the blower speed. Went away within half a mile and never heard it since. The large central console creaks when cornering with a bit of speed, this has been constant since buying. Car is under warranty but for me these minor gripes weren't enough to have Lexus investigate during lockdown. So pleased I choose the IS300h and all ready to tour Scotland shortly.

I can live with minor faults such as seat electrics Linas.P Started driving in the late '70s with Escorts Allegro's Viva's etc. all needing plenty of attention. Never afraid to skin my knuckles under the bonnet but modern cars are difficult to work on. I'm thinking a Lexus even after 5 years old needs to be protected with warranty, just too many electricals with potential to cause real grief but that's the price to pay for owning a desirable car.
-
Half way through my 12 month cover and not had to make a claim but it takes a lot of stress away when you see reports from those that have. Great to see you had your seat repaired Linas.P but frightening cost of £4200 is ridiculous, must be over 10% of the original price of your car. Having a warranty on any Lexus is a must when you see the price of parts plus labour at £180 an hour. On the plus side the Lexus warranty is possibly best on market covering a host of items not normally included and from what I've read it's a smooth straight forward procedure with courtesy car at the ready. We all want peace of mind in these uncertain times.
