The future of Electric Vehicles, a Bloomberg report
Las Palmas replied to dutchie01's topic in Lexus General Discussions
Good for the people living in big cities. Too many suffer from the result of polluted air. Spreading the pollution does not help globally so you are right there. Really interesting report. I believe the evolution of fuel cells and the problem finding material to make batteries can lead to another story, but we may not all live long enough to see. -
You know that most people like their cars to be sporty, so no matter if they are, they will all be labelled so. All car companies do that. Rear wheel drive does not make a car sporty without the power, but most of these are also labelled sporty. Marketing people know nothing about cars. They just write what they think can sell. Besides: who needs go from one red light to another in 3 seconds? Luxury means for the people I know: Comfort, comfort, comfort. Nice design. Easy to drive from A to B. Not much about power.
-
Now you are hard. I find most of what Linus is saying to be words of one who knows cars and has a preferred kind of cars. Reason for me to defend front wheel drive is that most drive does not know how to handle rear wheel drive as front wheel drive is far more forgiving and that is what most are used to now. 😇
-
Do not be so hard Linus, Front wheel drive (luxury or not luxury) cars with normal power/weight rate is the best for most people. Front wheel drive is not bad. Rear wheel drive is far better if: Car has a power/weight + weight balance front/rear rate that makes it possible to control the car with the speeder pedal and (very much of importance) has a driver that can handle rear wheel drive. Rear wheel drive is wasted on most of the cars that have it. For these 4-wheel drive would be better.

It is hard to believe that not so long-ago Hyundai was not a brand of value and now is being among the top brands. I have been happy renting the little i10 when needing to come from one place to another (airport - family - return etc.) and now their Ioniq is giving Prius a battle that it seems Prius is losing among taxi's here. If Genesis is a coming top like Infinity from Nissan was supposed to, or if it really is a top car like Lexus, is not to know now, but for Infinity it that has not happened so far though some of their cars are stunning to look at. Honda has also a new and nice Accord hybrid and Honda is known as a reliable brand. The new Insight is good looking too. If fuel cells are the future (as I believe it is) then Toyota has a smooth working gear system which is far better than competing gear systems. Hyundai is a company with a future, but they are entering a part of the market with few buyers and many sellers with the Genesis. Good luck. Competition is what makes products better. The design is not worse than Lexus and if Lexus wants to stay on top Lexus needs better service. In the service-part of catching customers Hyundai is far ahead. Sure, I should not write things like this in a Lexus forum, but I believe the older Lexus cars were better built than the new are. When we need a new car, I hope the fuel cell cars are available and the needed refuelling network is OK. So far, we are happy, no VERY happy with the little CT.

Do we have remote window closure?
Las Palmas replied to BillNick's topic in Lexus RC Owners Club / RC 200t / RC 300h Club
Yes! Press the open button on the remote, hold it pressed and all 4 windows roll 1/3 down. Press the close button and hold it pressed and the windows close. CT200h 2016 Luxury Sport etc. -
Hill Star Assist
Las Palmas replied to BartLexusFan's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
It is simpler on a CT. Drive up, brake. When brake is released, it holds the car 1 maybe 2 seconds. -
That is the most common and easy way to repair a lot of IT problems. Routers wait 10 seconds before starting again and internet will reappear. Another problem with the navigation system is that when entering a desired destination, you are (we are) shown 2 - 3 possible routes. All fine, except the shortest has not been shown in any of the 4 or 5 times I tried to see how well the system does function. Yes, you will be led to the destination (one time against the allowed direction on a one-way street) but if you know the way to where you are going (easy for us here on this micro island) then you will find out that the built-in navigation system in the CT200h Luxury Sport etc. is not worth a lot. Use it only if you cannot find your way to the destination.

The Peugeot 504 diesel pick-up is reliable as few. Still, some of the 40 - 50 year old still drive on impossible pistas (dirt roads) in the mountains in Morocco. I had a 604 and mishandled it completely, used it to open the iron garage port if too lazy to go out (could be raining) and beautiful it was not, but did stand up to the abuse without problems.
-
Had a Peugeot 205 Rally and among the faults in it was that common ground for several of the electric parts were in front of the car making them unstable in winter in North Europe with salt on the roads, so light was blinking and most other things were functioning - now and then.

Tear down the wall.

I think this is interesting. French cars: I think some of these are excellent. One of these is a piece of art in my eyes.
-
That is a strange conclusion. That you see the other car coming on the road is more dangerous than not seeing it?
-
Hi Linus, I think it is impossible to communicate with people having alternative truths, so why not just talk about cars? Less dangerous.

I admit that I never watched a cricket match so more closely would be looking at one. About playing the game it is in my eyes stupid to get into a game you have no chance of winning and that is the same for both sides. In politics there is no such thing as fair in the books they are learning from. Just look at Johnson, all he knows is bullying. I have no UX but a hybrid that runs on gasoline.
-
Hi Malc, Brexit is just opening a can of worms in Ireland. Maybe Paul McCartney was right. I do not know. One thing for sure: no such things as fair politicians. They change their mind in order to continue getting "money for nothing" (Dire Straits).

I am not particualr a fan of EU, but I think that even though both are loosers, the UK lost the most.
-
I got a year and a half because I forgot. If you do not feel old, why would you need to renew the license?
-
Please. Do not let it get into a contra or pro Brexit. All countries have stupid rules. A bright teacher told me that the fewer laws a country needs, the better the country. Faeroe islands and Iceland were what he mentioned then. It is a long time ago. But I think he got a point there.

As far as I know most taxi owners have only 1 taxi here. I know one. He used to have a Toyota. Funny when I had a MR2 Roadster he recommended me a garage that the taxi drivers used for their Toyotas. Not the one that has Lexus as well. He would sell his used taxi when he needed a new. So a good price for the used was not without interest.
-
In 1967. Yes.
-
You see what you are looking for. Here many Lexus, but most old IS. Maybe they last forever. A few years ago, most taxi here were Prius. Now many Hyundai Ioniq are coming. Could be because agent here is not service minded. But if the Hyundai were not reliable, the word would have spread quickly among the taxi drivers.

Bored with red so I had it wrapped

Bought a new Supra after the 300ZX. Kept the Supra 3 months. Piece of ****. Toyota could not find the problem with the engine and thus not fix it. Enginelight would lit up as soon as driving faster than 140 - 160 km/h. Take off the roof part and it was floating like a drunk. With roof part on it was OK. Returned to Nissan then.
