Power – or - renewable or not completely renewable energy.
Las Palmas replied to Las Palmas's topic in Lexus CT 200h Club
Also, this is supposedly in the wrong forum as I think more than the CT200h people could be interested in keeping the world in as good a state as possible. Global moderator: Please move this to the correct place. -
Power – or - renewable or not completely renewable energy.
Las Palmas replied to Las Palmas's topic in Lexus CT 200h Club
The most reliable power source that is constant is little used for reasons I do not want to comment on. https://www.energyvoice.com/renewables-energy-transition/339937/o2-tidal-turbine-orbital-marine-orkney-worlds-most-powerful/ Have mentioned this before in a forum that was not supposed to be about renewable energy and I apologize for that. -
Instead of destroying posts asking questing for other things, I suggest that those of us who think that the energy debate is ruining too many of the posts that were not meant to be about how to keep the planet in best possible state for the generations after us. Not all of us think only about ourselves and not all of us are greedy in this forum. I believe that most of us actually want to leave the planet in as good a condition as possible for our children and our children’s children; etc…

Are we likely to see an all electric IS300?
Las Palmas replied to Fujifan's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Absolutely. My wife bought the car. It is a fine car. Love the ML audio and a lot of other things in it. Suspension is far better than in most cars. Sofas are not for me. Would have preferred the same car, engine and all, but without the battery as it cost as much in weight as it gains in braking, but who am I to tell wife the car is not perfect. So far there are no perfect, but when hydrogen fuel stations become common there will be. -

Except for the nuke I agree. Continue to destroy the planet the next 10 years to get batteries enough and leave the mess to coming generations. 'Oh, that is our children. -

The one we had is a bit less wide, but longer.

No problem that young people want to have fun. Do crazy things and get adrenalin pumping. Soft suspension makes me fall asleep when driving and the CT is not that soft. Hard to get into or hard to climb up in or hard to lay down in; not for me. Lancia EVO 2 with roll over cage etc. was for some young people hard to get into and out of. Do not think many 25 - 30 years old could climb from sea level to peak of the mountain here faster than I on a mountain-bike when I was 70. Passed many sitting on the grass while going up. My bike partner was ex. pro, 15 years younger. Nowhere on the island a bike could not take us. Stopped to go out in daytime when skin cancer tumour no. 4 was removed after advice from doctor, so no longer fit as before. And no SUV or BEV is coming in our family as long as I am driving. The CT is not ideal but less polluting than the Diesel Golf we had. And it was my wife that wanted it. In family we have a Porsche enthusiast and none of the rather low cars are difficult to get in. A little hard to out and up of the lowest; but can still without help. I think that a good combustion engine hydrogen powered car is what you need and I would appreciate it if you invite me for a tour in it. If a fuel cell it could be OK too, but an old motor-head want the sound of a real engine, and if almost not polluting it will be no problem for me. I do not mind driving fast, but hate to damage the environment more than we have done. When I was young and crazy with speed nobody talked about environment. That is a poor excuse but it is true that I had no idea what would happen. Now thinking of younger family members, I am sorry for what we have done wrong and try to tell others to make fewer mistakes than we did. Those that say climate change is not something we have made or contributed to are idiots. Some of the cars we used had problems driving 5km on 1 litre, a friend of mine told me that the exhaust was spitting out 2DM pieces. Fastest I have been driving outside Germany was almost 300km/h in France; did not get caught. Here guys in terrain motor bikes were testing their skill and I was trying to follow them when going down (up I could not follow); there I blew first a FOX rear suspension seal so all way down it was not a mountain bike but a rocking chair. Next tour there With a RockShox replacement I blew a seal again; It was still almost functioning, but leaking oil. You are not the only crazy here in the forum.

We get older and do not need/want to drive fast any more. Comfort is what matters now.

Are we likely to see an all electric IS300?
Las Palmas replied to Fujifan's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Now If you have the time to hear what a guy who maybe knows more about cars than many of us here on the forum do you might get the idea that even if both types of cars are limited by their re-fuelling /filling there is only one winner: As long as we do not think that the future of coming generations is their problem. -

I do not think you are right in all you say, but for sure the big companies will try to get as much out of the investment in EV as possible. What I hope in this debate is actually only that a few will open the eyes to see that climate change and a lot of other problems are due to our destruction of the planet. That the batteries will become more efficient is clear, but while waiting for that to happen we are digging for cobalt and other needed products in vulnerable places where we, the rich, are not paying a price but leave it to the poor. The more efficient batteries will not be available the next 10 years no matter how optimistic some are and while waiting the big companies will get their money back on the batteries available now. The hope that the companies that are investing in hydrogen will be able to deliver before is green and that is the option, I see best for all of us. Not just for us lucky enough to live in the rich part of the world. Remember that we are few and they are many. -
Beautiful car. Enjoy it.

Lexus CT200h side windows: tempered or laminated glass?
Las Palmas replied to Elt's topic in Lexus CT 200h Club
I have had the windows and the sunroof glass laminated with UV protection (have skin cancer) and if unlucky that somebody throw a rock against a window the glass-splinters will supposedly stick to the laminate instead of being spread all over the interior. Have a UV measuring device and absolute no UV comes through even when UV is 12 outside the windows. This is for US, but I found it here also: https://northamerica.llumar.com/automotive-film/benefits-of-window-tint/protect-yourself-from-dangerous-uv-rays -
I am happy that Bluetooth is functioning most of the time without problems. When it will not start I have to reinstall the phone (such never happened with VW) but not too much of a problem. That they cannot make a navigations system that function is really not something that can call it luxury. Lexus is hopeless with their software. Good that the hardware is OK. ML audio is the best I have seen as factory installed audio, we are very happy with it; playing high resolution .flac files make the car a concert hall. Better than anything heard in MB and more or less the same as the B&O in the extremely expensive Audi's; also the latest audio in Porsche's is pretty good.

It is completely our own fault that we have incompetent politicians ruling our countries. They are elected by us. -

Went from Denmark through Sahara and on the way back up to Tronheim in a Beetle in maybe 1972. Do not know how many charging points are in Sahara. -

MB350 SE made the trip in less than 24 hours (legal speed - maybe not - maybe - never got caught). Nissan 300 ZX was faster. Ford Capri 3L was not slow either. Now a CT is fast enough for us. Will never have a BEV and do not trust the politicians and they will never succeed with only EV after 2030. Other things will come up they do not know about. Next car could be a Mirai. Think there will be fuel stations enough before they get down in price to fit us after we no longer work. To make electricity to so many cars as on the roads today will be more than the politicians can manage get going. -

Having family in southern Spain and living in Denmark we have been doing the tour more than 20 times. It would never have been possible in an electric car within the timeframe of a normal holyday. Trust the politicians that tell you that in 2030 there will be charging places enough for all types of battery powered cars. Why not? Politicians never lie. -

Having time to find charging stations and time to wait till battery is charged would make the trip a lot longer than just driving into a gas station and fill it up and maybe have a cup of coffee instead of needing a hotel to wait till the car was charged. On a trip through Europe it could be expensive. -

I love spicy food from India, but the food from Pakistan is far hotter. Wasabi from Japan is also pretty strong. We grow our own chilli as then we can have it both strong and fresh with a really nice fruity and fresh bite. Why vanilla, because that is mentioned on so many of the products from Dr Oetker and is always fake. -

Wonder where they are selling the spices from India as the vanilla in their products are all vanillin, which has nothing to do with vanilla. -
Does a CT have voice recognition? Would not use it anyway. Have music on the phone and when sitting alone in the car listening to high resolution I use line-in, but when driving around Bluetooth transmission of the music is good enough. Phones these days have so much memory that my 200 Gb music is not even using half of it. Lexus have great hardware but the people making their software are lightyears behind competition. Have the latest OEM Lexus navigation installed and the stupid thing cannot tell the shortest way and sometimes even want to direct against traffic in a one way street. No problem the island is so small that navigation is not needed.

Why would Dr Oetker have ships? All ingredients in products from that company are chemistry or other wise synthetic that can be produced in Germany.
