Gracenote Database
Las Palmas replied to Al D-Much's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
Of reasons for using Gracenote I can see none. While driving I listen to music, do not look at pictures of artists and albums. All metadata are normally embedded in the m4a or MP3 files our cars can read. If we listen to music that is streamed, metadata also usually are there. Gracenote was smart many years ago. If we have lossless music (ML audio is worth it) through line-in, metadata will also be there. What is alternative to Gracenote? And is there any reason to have that? What's the problem with electric vehicles
Las Palmas replied to Mr Vlad's topic in Lexus Owners Club Lounge
I think that we should not mine for things not needed if that is destroying too much. It is OK to have batteries for smartphones and computers and there are enough minerals for that without destroying the planet, but much more than that is not needed. Big batteries that shall survive life in a car will need so much glue or other bonding material in order not to short-circuit that it will be expensive to maybe not economical reasonable to get the minerals out again. Sure, there are minerals enough for the next 50 years if we are willing to destroy the planet searching for them and digging them out, and with luck our children will be able to fix the mess we make doing that. I think that is a bad idea. -
What's the problem with electric vehicles
Las Palmas replied to Mr Vlad's topic in Lexus Owners Club Lounge
I have had many good times in most of the cars we have had but nothing compares to being faster than a couple of pro bikers less than half my age uphill from sea level to 2000 meter above. Swallows flying around on the way up, air fresher than in any city. What a place to retire. There are so many places you can come to on a bike that a car has no possibility to reach. While still working I was overweight, had high blood pressure, too much cholesterol, needed pills far too often, and after getting time to get fit again, lost weight, threw away the pills, no more high blood pressure and cholesterol normal. Can I recommend physical activity? Absolutely. Will I recommend electric bikes? Absolutely not. Above the clouds: On the way down: -
What's the problem with electric vehicles

Mining and refining of lithium, nickel, graphite, cobalt, and rare earth metals are very toxic and energy consuming. A heavy truck will need a battery weighing close to 3000 kg in order to have a range of 400 km, meaning limited capacity to move goods. Battery life-span, if from 100% full to 0%, is normally calculated to be 1000 cycles, while 20% to 80% will last a lot longer but have seriously limited range. Charging time will mean less efficiency longer transport times and for food, that is not ideal. Supercharging stations for trucks will have a problem with the space needed for the big trucks, and even if charging time come down to ½ or 1 hour these will have to be gigantic. With the battery technology available now superfast charging reduce life span of batteries seriously. We are dependent on China for Li-ion batteries and rare earth metals. Will enough Li-ion batteries ever be available to make over 50% of all new transportation and personal vehicles pure EVs? Battery replacement is expensive and no battery made so far, or expected withing the next 10 - 20 years will last as long as a truck is supposed to last. All above is written for trucks for transporting whatever we think we need in order to live like we are used to. -
On a DVD 4Gb you can have 20 hours of music in very good quality if compressed to m4a 512kbps or a couple of hours more in good quality in MP3 320kbps. The CT we have cannot read dual side DVD 8Gb.
-
No. 1 CD is what it has. The one we have will also play DVD and DVD audio, but not BluRay disc.
-
I prefer to use the disc, so I do not have to keep the lid for the USB stick open. 4Gb is enough to have 20 hours of music in m4a 512kbps which is twice the sound quality of maximum for MP3, which is 320kbps and the disc play more discreet not having the USB lid open, plus it never disconnects even on very rough roads. USB stick will not let me play m4a compression only MP3 play well in USB. Then again MP3 is 10 times better than the streaming from popular Spotify. Lexus put a fine audio system in the cars, so why chose poor quality music source?
-
Your 2019 model must be able to read bigger USB sticks. The one we have will not accept a 64Gb unless parting it and then only read half of it. 16Gb is stable, 32Gb sometimes disconnect.
-
Do not know of any memory to store music on in the CT, but if you do not like the USB stick (neither do I like to have the lid open) then a DVD can contain more than 4Gb music (the one we have will not read a dual DVD with 8Gb) and you can have MP3 files on there or far better quality m4a. If you convert from lossless, I recommend dbpoweramp (www.dbpoweramp.com/) in the computer to convert. The difference between 320kbps (MP3 maximum) and 512kbps is worth it.

The rubber on the doors are much more like new rubber after having it on them, not spray, but with a soft cloth. Also the metal parts on the sun-roof (Moon-Roof in Lexican language).

Congratulation with a beautiful car. Does not really look like the 2004 model. Enjoy it.

One thing you hopefully will find out sooner or later is that Lexus hardware, as good as it is, should not be blamed for the lacklustre software. Also, the manual is so malfunctioning that it can be believed that it has been written in Japanese (fair enough) but then for some stupid reason translated with Google into first Chinese, then a couple of other languages till it finally is in the language you want to read it in. Infotainment is something that is being mentioned as not very good and that is mildly said. Navigation is also made so complicated to use and expensive to update, that there is no reason not to use the navigation system in smartphones. The ML is so well put together that it can fill a complicated and small area with sound that is pleasant to not just the driver, but to all in the car. Few other companies manage to do better even in far more expensive cars.

The big difference between a standard audio system and the MarkLevinson is the quality of the music, the number of loudspeakers, the quality of the amplifier, and the sound is really good. Adjusting sound output is up to your personal preference and no handbook can help there. Lexus has installed a great audio system in the car, but have not allowed it to import lossless audio in the bluetooth only in the line in. The best quality audio without having a wire you can get from a DVD with music converted to m4a 512kbps, which will give you around 20 hours of reasonable quality music. MP3 can give a little more because it only has 320kbps as maximum and that is far better than Spotify that is a disgrace with the 160kbps streaming. I have installed audio systems to cars on exhibition where the audio components were costing as much as a car (stopped 2003) and the best of these were quality sound not much better than the ML audio, sound output much louder, but pure quality not much. Enjoy the silence of the car and the music ML audio can give. Best tyres can enhance the sound a lot more than most people will believe as the CT is not really soundproofed as much as some of the bigger cars from several companies.

The blossoms look nice in pictures, so probably worth seeing. I love walking around in orange and lemon plantages, the smell of the flowers are so much that it maybe makes up for the lack of beauty compared to the ones you can see in Japan. Issues around importing will probably come from UK and not Japan.

This is very old news. Oh, then it is not new? More than 2 years since I saw it first time. Ready to run, but: Stupid people think that destroying forests and oceans to dig after minerals to build batteries that last very short time is the way to go and unfortunately there are more stupid people than intelligent people on earth, so the planet will be completely destroyed long before it is found out that batteries for bigger things than smartphones and computers are so out of tune that it will matter.

I thought the cats disappeared and only the fresh smell of mint was there.
