Map updates
Las Palmas replied to Sybaris's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
Maybe the guy selling the map updates on eBay is right that the maps have not been updated since 2019. I think that Lexus could ask Garmin for help (probably not cheap, but anyway, the cars are not cheap either), especially when they can have Mark Levinson take care of their best audio (probably not cheap either). -
Map updates
Las Palmas replied to Sybaris's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
Lexus updates are expensive. Do not remember how much I paid, but more than 100 and even had to wait 3 weeks or a month to get it. Asked a dealer on eBay about 2021 or 2022 maps on SD-micro card and was told that the latest available is 2019 (which I have). Told me that some are selling them as 2021 maps, but they have not been updated since 2019. Anyway the maps on smartphones are free and constantly updated plus much easier to use than using the funny mouse we have in the cars. -
Funny is that whenever getting a new car, you suddenly see several. May have been like that before, but without noticing it.

High Fuel Costs - Any Changes In Your Driving Habits?
Las Palmas replied to Rabbers's topic in Lexus General Discussions
Still drive as little as possible. A CT is comfortable but not a fun machine, so we use it to get our vegetables and so on. Happy we no longer have over-dimensioned fuel guggling engines. Answer is : no change. -
UX 250h 12 Volt Battery Reading Using Multi Meter
Las Palmas replied to TRo's topic in Lexus UX250h / UX300h / UX300e Club
While this is not answering your question, I wonder how a 2019 car can need a new battery already. The battery in hybrids are supposedly only there to start the computer so the hybrid battery can deliver its power. If the car has not been modified with extras ( not installed by Lexus ) I would think the 12V battery should last more than 5 years. The 12V battery in our car is now one month away from being 6 years and I believe it is still so good that it will last the next couple of years. Parasitic drain should only come if something not original has been installed in the car. I believe. -
You know the place. Lots of beautiful scenery. Most of it in the mountains, where cars cannot go though. Get up there and walk. Or use a mountain-bike to go see what most people do not know exist.

My wife is regularly driving and I have pleasure in looking out of the windows without needing to keep an eye on traffic. That is not a problem. This is luxury.

Reliability - Choice of year?
Las Palmas replied to Isaac5099's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Dual clutch have been giving VW a few problems with some of their cars, while other DSG were absolutely bullet proof. Had a 2.0tdi DSG Golf 2005, never had a gearbox problem. 200.000km. CVT in the CT we have is great for us, but some do not like them. -

Would have solved a lot of problems. Or do you mean that making music does not give enough money so he has to be a taxi driver?

That is what was recommended many years ago. Used to work in a company servicing these. Now I think that just leaving the thing on permanent is the best. As well as the easy thing to do.

Seems that Lexus has had a new model name registered in 2020 according to www.motor.es, so it could be coming: Fran Romero 3 min. lecture 25 Aug 2020 - 08:00h Lexus prepares a new model. It has only been a few days that the Japanese brand has requested the registration of a new commercial name, although this time with three letters, as opposed to the two that identify its models. It will be called LBX, and it points to a new crossover. Only the third letter of the name is an indication that it may be a new SUV or a crossover, a characteristic letter that the brands associate with this type of body. The strange thing is that the new commercial name that Lexus has registered in certain countries of the Old Continent contains three letters, compared to two typical ones. Lexus LBX, thus, has appeared in the patent registers of Europe, and later in Turkey, Israel and Norway, one of the European markets with the highest rate of electric cars. Registration was requested on the 5th and 7th of this month of August, and to which Iceland and Switzerland have also joined. All coinciding not only in the name, but also in the object of the request, that of «Automobiles and their structural parts». Report on the registration of the Lexus LBX name at the European Patent Office Lexus LBX, thus, has appeared in the patent registers of Europe, and later in Turkey, Israel and Norway, one of the European markets with the highest rate of electric cars. All coinciding not only in the name, but also in the object of the request, that of «Automobiles and their structural parts». Report on the registration of the Lexus LBX name at the European Patent Office It's not surprising that the luxury brand is facing a new and completely unknown segment, since Koji Saro himself, Executive Vice President of Lexus, took advantage of the last edition of the Tokyo Salon to point out that there was space under the Lexus UX to offer a model more. But, according to this Chinese source, the commercial name would be the BX, because there is still margin, maybe a change that could involve a more utilitarian model. And there would be nothing wild to think that the luxury brand would have animated and put two models of segment B in the next few years, for example, to compete with the Audi A1 and Q2.

Many French and Italian cars used to have electric problems when they come to colder climate. Peugeot had the common earth connection under head-lamps and the spraying of salty waters (salt on the roads in many northern countries in winter) made all the lamps flicker and it was nothing but problems. Relocated the earth and many (not all) problems were gone.

Italy make some beautiful cars, and this is one of them. Congratulation. -
Having read from so many members on the forum that software is the weak point in the otherwise very fine Lexus cars. Seems that Lexus either have no interest in keeping their customers completely satisfied as navigation could be easily fixed by letting Garmin or another qualified company make it for them or they do not think that their customers expect more than good hardware from the car. The one we have registered October 2016 has never had a lam telling me of any errors (only orange light is when gasoline is low) and the car drive perfect. Fuel consumption is like from all competition completely wrong unless driving without A/C and not going faster than 40 - 50 km/h which is of course not any fun. Everything in the software is stupidly poor made. I found it poor when got the car and expected it to be better in following update, but seems Lexus will or can not update their software. Take the clock: 12 hour without AM and PM so if you do not know what time it is in winter you can be confused if it is 6 morning or 6 afternoon. The day has 24 hours and not 12. Telephone list when receiving a call tells "unknown caller" even if the list imported from phone has name and number of the person calling. Some of the problems could also come from translation from Japanese to English (or other languages) done by Google or even less qualified personnel or maybe not needed in Japan. Sony is mentioned as a bad software company and I disagree. Have a flagship VAIO from SONY laptop from 2009 and the software was great when I bought it and still most of the drivers function with latest update from Windows and when Windows have updated and installed new drivers I sometimes go back to the original to get better performance. It is still one of my main computers with specifications superior to most new computers of today. About the service from Toyota / Lexus personnel I will say that until 2006 it was fantastic here (had a Toyota MR2 Spyder). Boss was from Japan and the team was qualified. Now some local person has the Toyota and Lexus here and people that know anything about cars seems not to work there any-more. All they need to know is to connect the computers to the cars and see if they are told anything. Finally, buying a new model first edition is a gamble no matter from which car company; so far I have never heard of any new model that did not need to have various kind of error fixed within the first time; second update or even third usually are far better.

Brake fluid should be changed before it absorbs water. Funny thing is: All DOT 3, 4 and 5.1 brake fluids are compatible with each other and with all systems. All are polyethylene glycol-based fluids will not harm healthy rubber parts. Also, the additive packages will not damage or distort any rubber parts and that Shimano use mineral oil in their brakes, both for road and heavy mountain downhill and tell not to use dot brake fluid, while Hope use dot brake fluid in their brakes and tell that different dot types cannot be mixed. Change brake fluid - 45£ is not worth saving if that can cause brakes to be less efficient. 😇

That is excellent driving. Neither my wife nor myself get anything near that, but still very happy with the reliability and comfort that come with the little car. Here parking spaces are made for small cars and when we had the Honda Accord Coupé we often had to have the car filling more than one parking space. Never got booked because of that so the people controlling are friendly and understand that not all want a Fiat Uno, Renault 5 or VW lupo. The Toyota IQ would be nice to park here, but do not see many of these, many Smart 2 person cars though.

If heat should be a problem we would have had it here. Summer all year. No problems here. Have you had any alarms when cabin protection is off? If not you very well could be right about the insect disturbing the sensors.
-
Sweet little car. Easy to find parking space for. Bernard, you have not been lucky with Audi. VW Lupo was the original 3L/100km and I know an old lady that had a Lupo still working just great, 4 years since I saw her. 3L/100km is not more correct than the mileage other factories claim and only possible with the original tyres and a very light foot on the speeder pedal, but when the car was made it was a statement and I think real fine thing to make.
