When the geniuses find out that we have comfort features in our cars, they will be taxed too. Moonroof tax on top of the sunroof tax. Remote control tax. Air in the tyres tax. And in order to reduce pollution we will get a meter on our mouths to see how much CO2 we emit. With all the money they thus can get in there will be bonus for the politicians in form of extended vacation with free travel to desired place.

18” wheels on RX mk3
Las Palmas replied to Vadim's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
255 vs. 225 on 7½” wheels. I find 225 an OK size to 7½” (187,5mm). 255 will be floating instead of steering in the direction the front wheels are pointing. To have 255 tyres I think that any rim not at least 8½” will be too narrow. Here I am pretty sure they would not be permitted. Rightly so in my opinion. If wheel offset value is equalized with spacers, spacers are OK; if spacers change the width difference of the middle of the tyres changing the steering characteristic the factory think is correct, it better be made by somebody with more knowledge than the people calculating such things in the factory. Such people are working in Formula 1 and rare to find. Instead of 235/55/19 I think that 235/60/18 will be a reasonable change with a bit softer ride and minimal difference in most other things. 235/55/19 will have 442 revolutions each km 235/60/19 will have 443 revolutions each km 255/60/19 will have 429 revolutions each km -
Welcome to the forum and a nice car you have found. Here there are several Lexus IS diesels driving round and they all look like well maintained as they do not have black clouds coming from exhaust. Do not blame the gearing of the car on Lexus. When car was new speed limits were far more relaxed than today and 6th gear could be used on long tours on German highways. Today 5th probably is enough to keep fuel consumption on decent level. We had a Golf 2.0tdi DSG 2005 and used if a couple of times yearly to drive from southern Spain to family in Scandinavia and never had problem with it, only prescribed service. Diesels are meant to be driven till engine is warm – really warm and then continue till exhaust system is cleaned by the heat. Kept the Golf till 200.000km when we got the CT. The Diesel used much less fuel than the hybrid does, but the black cloud coming from the Golf when accelerating uphill was embarrassing. The horror stories here on the forum for diesel cars could be from owner’s wrong use of the cars. Diesel is not for continuously being used to drive very short tours in city as that will not keep the self-cleaning of them functioning. Best diesel car we have had was a 5 cylinder MB – 240D 3.0L. Long time ago, but then it could leave many gasoline cars looking lame when accelerating and did not get black clouds coming out even when pressing it, while we had it. Maybe it still drive as taxi in Africa. The IS is a beautifully designed car and hope you have much enjoinment of it.

Poor car kit voice sound quality
Las Palmas replied to John Nooij's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Like Michael, sound quality in CT when speaking on phone is OK. Logically microphone would be near driver's head. Maybe remove Bluetooth connection and pair again. -
It is not often you get more than you paid for. Some think a tyre is a tyre. I am one thinking that only the best are good enough.

Between 6½ - 7 L / 100km. Mountain areas are no good for hybrid system.

Portable MP3/music players that will plug in to the car's USB
Las Palmas replied to a topic in Lexus CT 200h Club
That can give you music enough to last a long journey. CT software will recognise m4a 512kbps on a 32Gb USB. CT software cannot read lossless quality. Only way to get lossless in the CT is using line-in. Spotify is extremely lossy and not worthy of being played in the fine audio installed in a CT from factory. 32Gb filled with m4a files 512kpbs will give you 131 hours of music. -
The car beeps when seeing a speed radar, changing lane, trying to wake driver up (I write that as sometimes I do not know why it is beeping) and when Bluetooth is not connected correct with sufficient permissions. Some of the beeps are OK and the rest I have to live with. Only not correct thing with the CT is fuel consumption. Not that it is too much, but Lexus has stated close to half of what is actually used as consumption.

19” Tyre choices
Las Palmas replied to Skinnyman's topic in Lexus RC Owners Club / RC 200t / RC 300h Club
Here there is one thing that matter. What is written in the papers from Lexus. The CT that cannot drive very fast is told to have rating “W” in car papers and anything less than that will not pass control here. “W” means tyres for cars able to drive 270km/h. Come with “V” rated tyres made for cars driving up to 240km/h and your will not be allowed to drive the car. Stupid: Absolutely. Nothing you can do. Lexus have stated “W” as rating for the car and anything less is not allowed. Who is stupid? Not the guy giving the approval stamp, he is following the rules, so it must be Lexus that is completely out of this world crazy. The CT will only be able to reach 270km/h if falling out of a plane or something similar. I can get “V” rated tyres 10€ cheaper each and with 69db noise but have to use “Y” rated (higher than “W”) with 70db noise. No problem. Both have fuel efficiency class “B” and braking in wet class “A”. But Lexus surely is not interested in doing what is best for owners. 40€ is also money. -

timing belt replacement near Sevenoaks Kent needed
Las Palmas replied to lance latter's topic in Lexus SC430 Club
One interesting thing is the 10 years. All cars or most have some kind of year mentioned next to the km. That is strange, as if you go to stock and take a new belt, I have never seen a timing belt where production date was mentioned on. Reason for that is obvious as nobody would buy stock and risk not selling when the belts have been made the mentioned number of years ago. Some think it is just a way to get customers to pay. If a belt has been laying in stock half of the time it is supposed to last it should then be replaced sooner if the number of years have any meaning. Rubber gets old when exposed to UV, which is rare inside an engine and of course it gets worn out while being used. That then means that what? I do not tell or recommend anybody to not change timing belt, but just tell what I have heard while still working in car business. -
For some it will be a problem, but only if not having a screwdriver that is tiny enough. Your niece needs a big hug.

Not sure if audio/sound fault?
Las Palmas replied to iddective's topic in Lexus UX250h / UX300h / UX300e Club
Bluetooth in the CT is very old type. Latest Bluetooth is able to transfer better than 320kbps. Lexus have terrible software. Will not play any type of lossless music except with line-in. High quality from Spotify is 160kbps and less if not paid connection 96kbps. In the CT I use DVD with m4a files 512kbps. More than 20 hours of music on one DVD. Music and picture of disc on the DVD but not on USB. Have a 32Gb USB with same type music and have no idea how long-time music would play, but probably enough to drive from southern Spain to Norway without hearing same tune twice. Mostly cannot hear any difference between 512kbps and lossless. Only when parked in a very quiet place. ML audio is better than any standard audio in even 3 times more expensive cars. -
Did a mistake and put on the same as was on the car from new, but soon will have Continental on. 1 - 2 months and back to the tyres I have had on most of the cars (very many) and Continental tyres have never let me down. On a 350SE (rather heavy car) they lasted more than 40K km, maybe 50 in Africa on very many roads much worse than the pot hole roads you find in Europe. 2 set of tyres on decent roads with 80K km is not good on a tiny car that never have been on dirt roads.

Is your "normal garage" Lexus or independent? Not that Lexus are the only company that can fix cars, but maybe they know more about Lexus than many other garages. They supposedly have all needed tools to fix whatever happen to the cars. Lexus has the bad habit of being stupidly expensive, but they have fine expensive workplaces and hopefully competent people working and nothing is easy or free. Maybe some competent member here can tell what it might be, but unfortunately, I have no idea, except I would go to Lexus to have the car examined.

What's the problem with electric vehicles
Las Palmas replied to Mr Vlad's topic in Lexus Owners Club Lounge
This is the last time I will inform about latest progress in hydrogen in this forum. So many big companies are now realising that there is no other product available today that can store power till it is needed. The fools, morons or idiots that believe it is OK to destroy the planet in order to dig out the materials that sooner or later no longer are available in order to make batteries where electricity can be stored a very limited time, will come with explanations of various intelligence why they are right. That the batteries do not last long is not what I mention here, no matter how true that also is no matter how many more cells are put into a battery in order to fool people buying them that the batteries last longer when they are computer controlled. Hydrogen as power source can be stored as long as needed or wanted in containers, ready to be used when needed. No matter where electricity come from or how it is made: it needs to be stored in order to be used when needed. I have before informed that hydrogen is a source that is not destroyed when used like oil or gasoline is. It is made from water and after having been made to hydrogen and used in combustion engines or to make electricity for fuel cells it returns to water ready to be used again. New hydrogen production makes H2 by copying plants BRET WILLIAMS https://www.hydrogenfuelnews.com/author/bret-2-2-2/ A University-of-Michigan-team has looked to nature for a green way to split water molecules. As hydrogen production becomes an increasingly important foundation in the effort to transition to zero carbon emission economies, a team from the University of Michigan has looked to plants to provide a way to make H2 cleanly and efficiently. H2 is expected to play a role in decarbonizing industry, transportation, and entire economies. As much as it has promise in reducing or eliminating carbon emissions from many of the most polluting sectors of the world, it will only prove sustainably successful if there are methods of green hydrogen production that can keep up with demand. There are already many ways to produce the fuel, but most are not nearly as clean as they need to be in order to achieve the decarbonization required to meet climate targets. Researchers from the University of Michigan say that they have found a cheaper and cleaner way of producing H2 by replicating the methods used by plants. Making H2 not only cleanly but also affordably is among the primary challenges in the way of the mass rollout of the fuel as a form of clean energy. This new study aims to provide a solution that will overcome those challenges and make H2 a practical and green energy source. The researchers are developing artificial photosynthesis as a clean method of hydrogen production. Artificial photosynthesis is not a new concept. However, the experiment conducted by this research team has provided a considerable improvement to the efficiency of the process. In fact, the efficiency level of the experiment showed greater efficiency than natural photosynthesis used by plants in nature. The process has to do with the use of semiconductor catalysts. It requires heat to speed up the process and to prevent the oxygen and hydrogen from bonding once again after they have been split apart from a water molecule. However, the necessary heat had proven too great for current semiconductors to be able to handle. As a result, the team came up with a new solution by shrinking the semiconductor. “We reduced the size of the semiconductor by more than 100 times compared to some semiconductors only working at low light intensity,” explained University of Michigan computer and electrical engineering research fellow, Peng Zhou, lead author of the study. Additionally, this method of hydrogen production uses “self-healing” semiconductor tech. It was tested using a light source with an intensity 160 times greater than the sun as experienced from Earth. The light was used to heat the water and split the molecules, resulting in substantial improvements to hydrogen production efficiency. -
Anyone upgrade to OEM 2018+ LED tail lights?
Las Palmas replied to Indolent's topic in Lexus CT 200h Club
The tail-lights look same as on the 2017 we have. And on the pictures, I find of all CTs from 2012. Or am I missing something. Are the headlights LED on both low and high beam? The one we have is LED on low but Halogen on high beam. -
