looking at getting my first Lexus - IS300h
Las Palmas replied to gtanny's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Beautiful car. Excellent design. Would have waited to get a new car like the IS if our space in garage was OK for such big cars. When they built the house a family car was size Renault 5. Would not like to park a big car in our garage. The white car is touching the wall behind it. Between the white and grey car is supposedly room for a car. Luckily the owner of that space has a motorbike. -
LC500 User Guide - Are they serious?
Las Palmas replied to Alex S. Driver's topic in Lexus LC500 / LC500h Club
Yes, and that is a fine place to relax (and listen to music?). Still cars like that are excellent for long distance travelling and if you do not know how traffic situation is and therefore not have booked a hotel room it is not always possible to get to a place to sleep before you get tired. -
LC500 User Guide - Are they serious?
Las Palmas replied to Alex S. Driver's topic in Lexus LC500 / LC500h Club
Why not? Are the seats not comfortable? Have been sleeping in in MB SEL, Nissan 300ZX even in a Toyota MR2 Spyder. Sometimes all hotels you find on the way are full. -

All Lexus cars have that? No/yes? -
So, for all with bad luck losing their cat can have one of the new with less expensive metals installed instead and still be having the same effect? Do you think they will be cheaper then?

Spring Is Here ...
Las Palmas replied to Rabbers's topic in Lexus RC Owners Club / RC 200t / RC 300h Club
Right. Me too. Shadows were too sweet, too invisible, but some of their tunes were good. Cliff was not my cup of tea either. Was listening most to jazz anyway, but at parties we heard what was available. String backing was not made good before Moody Blues used it. Excepe of course in classical music, which was not popular except among those who were "old"! -
Japanese manufacturers falling behind with BEV vehicles

And good looking too. The power they are putting in these seems to me a bit more than needed for most. Now speed limits are restricting use of it and in the future we may be allowed to drive no faster than we can on bicycles. More comfortable yes, but not like on Autobahn in Germany 20 years ago. As long as you did not make accidents - you did not drive too fast. -
Double beeps 4RX
Las Palmas replied to Herbie's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
The one we have is making these wake-up calls whenever driving faster than permitted, whenever some car is crossing into our lane in front of us (even when distance is not really short), when nearing a radar control and sometimes without any reason that is obvious. Suppose it is something that can be programmed but have not found out how. Manual is not really helpful. Maybe turn ignition on without pressing brake pedal and then blink left (or right) or press one of the many buttons the cars are full of while releasing parking brake and doing other complete un-logical things. Or just accept the sounds as part of the entertainment in our cars. -

Spring is nearly here. Beautiful tune. The Shadows. Remembering this music you know I am old. OK. No idea how it looked before but now it really is a beauty. Some day I might get energy enough to try to polish the one we have. So far it only goes through automatic wash once a week. Hope the paintwork is strong enough for the abuse. -
I have divided mine in classical, jazz, pop (rock is in that group) and have a group for concerts (music where one or more albums actually is one long song or whatever that loses if not played in one go. Have tried to keep only the part of the music I like, so am still editing. Kept the music in flac files as they are open source and can be played on almost all devices.

Do not remember when started. Still searching now and then. Have plenty room to add music. Memory cards are cheaper and computers more capable. Memory in my first computer did not have memory enough to have one album music in it, even if using MP3 low resolution compression and I am downloading 16 or 24-bit flac (lossless) files now. All the music I have in albums and cd's are converted to 16-bit flac. And I am a sissy: Have back-up.

Have a playlist with more than 2500 titles with blues, classical, jazz, pop, rock, soft jazz and something that probably cannot come in any group. Listens a lot to Niels Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Stan Getz, Barbra Streisand, Beatles, David Bowie, Marillion, Neil Diamond, Pink Floyd, The Band, The Moody Blues and Whitney Houston. Most jazz when I am alone in the car and when not just let it all play.

Bought a battery from China on eBay. Twice the power. Full speed (so called turbo) 8 minutes instead of 2. Normal more than 40 minutes instead of 16. Original battery lasted 2 years just more than warranty. Chinese battery is now 3 year old and still like new. Otherwise, machine is OK.

Dual action polishers any good for beginners?
Las Palmas replied to superatticman's topic in Lexus Car Care & Detailing
Do not know anyting about polishing as I never did that but just read this: https://everydayshowcar.com/best-dual-action-polishers-for-beginners/ maybe useful. -
If we drive long enough in a car it will need new tyres. Not only front. Have had powerful cars. On front wheel drive all 4 same size and same brand. On 4-wheel drive same. On rear wheel drive (powerful is different to different people) with abundant power/weight rear tyres wider. Had a kit-car very light with 2L Porsche engine 225 front 285 rear.

I use sunglasses from Rudy Project and Uvex with photochromatic lenses (not polarized) going from 0 to 3 and they are never too dark (as they only get darker when light is strong) and never too transparent. One problem with shades no matter whatever kind is that when suddenly getting into a tunnel they almost always are too dark.

Your new car arrives. What's the first thing you do?
Las Palmas replied to Carriage Return's topic in Lexus CT 200h Club
You know that if you really like your car the way home is not the short way. You take a detour. Do you like your car? -
Polarized shades are to be used for fishing when you want to see through the surface, looking at fish or corals or whatever is in the water. Polarized shades are not for driving as you will not be able to see if there are water on the road (which could make it slippery). Polarized shades are dangerous when riding bike at high speed on paved roads for the same reason; not seeing water. Not all polarized glasses are filtering same level.

My Precious, No, it is not the ring and not the car. It is our little one. No longer fitting in the chair made for all from 1 to 10 years. The Cybex Pallas Gold M-fix has been comfortable for 5 years. Legs get longer and the seat will not be deep enough to support comfortably. Sure, side protection is greater in a seat like this, but when it gets uncomfortable and the little one is complaining you do what you have to do. Drive carefully. Used the soft pillow-part on stomach till she was almost 5: Time to change seat and that send us searching for the best replacement for the chair; we ended up with this: When it comes to security the best is good enough until something better is found. When the booster seat arrived, it was of a so much better build quality and finish than the rather expensive Cybex that we were very much surprised and happy with it. If the other seats from the company are equally well made there is only one thing against them taking a major part of the market for children’s seats in cars: Price. Have been round in supermarkets and wherever it was thought possible to find a fine booster seat and have never seen any with a quality comparable. In order to not looking out of place in the car we had it in black. Blends well in with the black interior. If Hyundai is going the same way with the quality of the cars they make, Hyundai is going to successfully compete with more expensive brands, but with this quality it may be difficult to keep the price down to where it is now. We see several Ioniq as taxa here on the island so they must be pretty good. And no: Never worked for Hyundai, so the reason for buying this is solely because we did not find anything that looked as good as this does; and we want to take care of our precious as much as we can. Our relationship with Hyundai is that we rent one of their cars when travelling needing a car to get around, and usually end up with an i10 as this little car can be parked everywhere and make us appreciate the comfort of the Lexus, we have home.
