  1. Hardly necessary Renato. I only need to read the first line of Bernard's (dutchie01) post of yesterday and I can safely assume the rest! 😄 As for a little luxury car, look no further than this classic of its day with leather seats, wood veneer instrument fascia and chrome gear lever as standard. Yours for a mere £13k ...
  2. Interesting tale Sean, appreciate it. 👍 But I'm no petrol head so am slightly bemused by the connection between a specific cylinder misfire and a worn petrol cap seal. I get the reduced fuel tank pressure tripping an error code, presumably thanks to a fuel tank pressure sensor, but why the misfire? And specifically on No.2? Might it incidentally indicate excess (but not critical) wear related to cylinder 2? ... or am I overthinking this? 🤔
  3. That's a very good point Neil. Whereas in Summer the all season tyre will probably wear more than the average Summer tyre, the choice of boots (in my case) is very much a driver preference in terms of feeling secure and confident in the ability of your vehicle to react more positively to adverse conditions throughout the year - without having to change tyres to suit the season.
  4. You may have already found this thread John, there are some tyre reviews therein, if not here it is ... I fitted a set of Avon AS7s (18") back in Feb and thus far am very happy with them (quiet, comfortable, economical etc) although to be fair we've not had any truly rough weather in which they can be realistically put to the test. They are not highly rated overall in reviews and some critics suggest that they are a mid-range tyre but with premium qualities. I bought them thanks to a particularly good deal on offer that I simply couldn't refuse, one which is still a significant saving on pretty much all other options today.
  5. I'm in fear of feeling the warmth of agreement with you Linas. 😉 If only these specialist topics were kept well out of reach of the average politician how much better off we would be ... and I include both the NHS and Education as equivalents in this respect. Although I have no real intention of drifting too far into politics we, as a Nation, are being steered well off course no thanks to our so-called leaders who are in command. Satisfactory solutions, if indeed there are any routes we can take to avoid the inevitable, should not be investigated by unqualified people whose principle motivation is self-aggrandisement and political gain. The pursuance of non-partisan science should provide well reasoned and unidealistic options but even then there are bound to be disagreements as I don't believe that with climate change/global warming we are dealing with an exact science. Far too much meddling and profiteering from those who know so little and yet pretend to know so much.
  6. You're all going in circles ... mainly because this topic is so subjective in principal with such large portions of speculation and empirical flaws that it is most unlikely that anybody is going to be proven right within their respective lifetimes, regardless of scientific qualifications or experience. My six-pennyworth suggests that evidence of the human race accelerating global warming is gradually accruing and should be neither denied nor ignored, not that anything substantial can be done about it given low perception, minimal understanding and general world-wide scepticism. There is also no doubt that such change that is cyclical is beyond human control but that is not to say that we, the current custodians of planet earth, should take zero responsibility or proceed as if nothing is happening. What we mere minions can/should/need to do about it is a vast can of worms and will be open to perpetual discussion, argument, theorising and conjecture for decades if not generations to come.
  7. I'm now 9 months into my 400h (07) ownership and have nothing bad to say about the experience. Comfort, economy, service costs and overall enjoyment are all scoring high points. I hope that I've landed myself a good'un 🤞. So now that I'm looking at it being a potential long-term keeper the matter of preventative underside corrosion protection is on my to-do list as I know it can creep up on the older RXs. At the moment on the ramp it's looking good, no sign of issues and I want to keep it that way so would welcome any suggestions and experiences as I've found a few seemingly quite different options regarding both cost and longevity. Hammerite, reportedly, lasts as an anti-corrosion solution for maybe 8-12 years ... but does it? Then I've found the likes of Lanoguard, Lanox, Dinitrol and Waxoyl that appear to need more regular applications. I'm really looking for sound recommendations, or even just considered pros & cons, so fire away good forum folk, I'm all ears. What have you guys done?
  8. Nothing to be sad about Andy. All my cars over the last 20+ years have been serviced by a trusted independent, not an exorbitant Dealer stamp in sight, and in my experience providing regular servicing can be proven there should be little or no effect on resale value. Of course those with younger and more expensive cars may well disagree but then they have a greater degree of depreciation to assimilate, an aspect of motoring of which I tend to steer well clear. Golden oil, long term ownership, clean MoTs and general appearance should tell you all you need to know about a 21 year old car. Regular annual mileage, however small, is another tell tale of a well kept vehicle, even more so if the owner had the benefit of a garage. If you can tick most if not all of the above boxes then a leap of faith, as you put it, is absolutely justified. Go for it.
  9. 👆 Absolutely agree with Steve 👆
  10. Whatever it is do make sure it's ULEZ friendly, just in case your vibrations slip over the border into Khan-Land!
  11. Daniel, there is absolutely no way of telling. As reports suggest that E10 accelerates wear on certain parts within the fuel supply system (eg fuel lines, seals, gaskets etc) then how is anyone going to know without taking the system apart? When I sold my IS250 (06) the buyer asked no questions about fuel use so for all I know may well be running it on E10 not realising that I had attempted to mitigate any potential damage risk by using E5. The opposite view to your situation. This E5/E10 business is made even more difficult because despite there being multiple recommendations not to use E10 on so-called non-compatible vehicles there seem to be few reliable references that illustrate without doubt the categorical consequence and damage that has been proven as a result of misuse.
  12. Good spot from Damian for you Mario 👆, otherwise David's quite right 👆👆 , Nottingham & Manchester to be precise (autotrader)! But then what IS wrong with your 400h? Mileage? 🤔
  13. Indeed I have ... and I shall ... although I hope that I don't ... if you get my drift 😄 .
  14. Just in case you got interested Len, Hankook do indeed make both All Season & Summer tyres for your fronts (17" & 18") but I can only find Summer tyres for your rears (again both 17" & 18"). And yes, the All Season tyres are indeed "directional". (Origin information room BlackCircles and Halfords ) https://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/143776-directional-tyre-as-a-spare/ 😉
  15. Or maybe this one Jim ... https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/product-group-tests/92863/best-all-season-tyres-2022-tyre-brands-reviewed-and-uk-prices-compared/verdict-results-category Without comprehensive research I opted for Avon AS7s as I was offered a discount I couldn't refuse. Time will tell I guess.
  16. 400h I know, but same principle. I've recently changed to 4x All Season tyres and yes, agree with others on here, if you're going that way have a full set, do not mix with Summer tyres. As I'm only doing around 5k miles pa I would expect them to last at least 3 years, hopefully more, depends on drive style. Also it's worth remembering that many AS tyres are directional so you can only swap front to rear same side as opposed to offside to nearside (X-fashion) ... and worth thinking about what spare you choose for similar reasons. 😉
  17. You're half right Malc. Biggin Hill is yes, just inside ULEZ but only by a whisker but Box Hill is well outside, it's even well outside the M25 in the leafy North Downs of Surrey. May I take it that you don't consider geography to be your strongest subject my friend? 😆
  18. Some of us have family in the Capital Dave and reliance upon public transport can at times not only be tediously time consuming but also challenging when attempting to move small children, parcels and large items easily and without too much fuss. 🤨 Even where you are I doubt if you view your public transport availability much different, unless you live in a town centre that is. 😉
  19. Would that be by diesel or electric train I wonder? 😁
  20. Quite bizarre. Where has this car been and why has it not been driven? L.P is going to love me for agreeing with him but in terms of future reliability I too find myself equally suspicious of extreme low mileage as I would be of extreme high mileage. I think future uncertainty are the two words that spring to mind. It looks amazing and sadly unused, excepting the apparent bodywork chips below the n/s/r light cluster, and with such clean brake discs too. It does beggar belief as to its history. Then there's the contentious dealer-speak "mega spec limited edition" for an 'Advance' which does sow seeds of doubt with the absence of even an ML audio system. The Elite Motor Company are not far from me and knowing their situation they do tend to exaggerate somewhat on both pricing and, evidently, description too!
  21. Ah Dan, glad I caught you. Perhaps in your professional capacity you would be kind enough to enlighten us as to the underwriting logic behind an optional increase of voluntary excess that leads to an increase in quoted premium. I certainly can't fathom it. 🤨
  22. By all means try that as it makes perfect sense (to us mere mortals!) ... but when I renewed earlier this year I went for a higher voluntary excess and the premium went up too! Work that one out!! 🤔
