Here's an old chestnut ... my previous 5 vehicles were diesel propelled and for the last 6 years I used only Shell V-Power in the X-type which seemed to pay dividends. But was it all worth it? Now with a petrol conveyance for the first time in 20+ years (must remember green pump not black!!) I'm wondering how much difference higher octane fuel might make ... if any?! I'm tempted to perhaps use Premium every 4th visit to the pumps rather than all the time so I'd be interested in the experience of others as I'm aware that there are arguments on all sides relating to cost v efficiency v cleanliness v economy and even the so-called experts seem to have divided views on the subject.

It would seem that bluetooth was an optional extra for my model. Am I correct in thinking that bluetooth comes with the navigation system so if the phone buttons are not on the steering wheel and there's no centre console screen then bluetooth is not a standard fitting? 🤔 Forgive me if I'm stating the bl**din' obvious but I'm still on a low rung of the learning ladder for this car. 😄

Hmm, well, comments on here and my own first thread (what to look out for?) having just bought a 2006 IS250 SE-L auto with just 30k on the clock makes interesting reading. I've not picked it up yet, it's being valeted and I have a jag to sell, but know already to have an oil change, maybe run the fuel tank down and fill up with premium fuel even include some additive and get the calipers checked and lubed. Fingers crossed eh? PS ... I won't be driving it like Miss Daisy!

So John, as I've just joined the marque ownership in buying a 2006 IS250 SE-L ... I take it you would be confident in recommending that a good knowledgeable Indy will be the route to take regarding maintenance? It's very VERY low mileage (29k) but even then probably not likely to be worthy of a Dealer stamp would you say?. I have to say that with all my cars I always end up with an experienced Indy, I just don't trust Dealerships to give good value for money, especially on an 'older' car. I've never bought a new car, I'd rather find a low-cost but well kept good value older vehicle and thus far (bar one awful/risky purchase that I'd rather not talk about! 🙄) I'm grateful that the policy has worked.

This is true, because I believe they're designed just to get you out of trouble so maybe not a good comparison with regular use. But then how often does one get into such trouble where more grip is required? I guess that's my point.

I bought a pair of snow socks for my previous car which, in fairness, was front wheel drive ... the trouble was, in 5 years they never got used! 🙄 But maybe I should look into a pair for the Lexus ... might they be as effective as an 'all season' tyre when added to 'normal' tyres in snow? 🧐 Maybe that would negate the necessity for 'all season' tyres ... for me anyway being 'down south'. I wonder. 🤔

As a matter of interest do 'all season' tyres do as many miles as 'normal' tyres? 🤔 Like Piers, I can understand the logic and of course I also realise that it will very much depend upon how the car is driven as to how quickly the tread wears, but are 'all season' tyres really necessary in the UK especially if they don't last as long? Mind you, that said I'm a southerner and nowadays see snow once in a blue blizzard compared to others up t'north so perhaps there's a regional case to be taken into account. So I'm interested ... has anyone run 'all season' tyres long enough to experience their longevity?
