  1. As you seem to be having difficulty separating fact from archetypical 'remainer' fiction Linas, let's at the very least agree that there remains no doubt that your above statement has been clearly shown to be categorically and unarguably wrong, which casts rather a shadow upon the remainder. Don't be shy, just admit it, I promise that you'll feel better afterwards. 😄 Otherwise I think I've probably reached the point where the term 'flogging a dead horse' becomes appropriate. 🙄
  2. I quite agree Vlad, it was both a positive and an inevitable step ... but evidently it's necessary for some people to be clear about the history behind it. 😉
  3. I never said it was EU's fault, now you're misquoting in an attempt to prove your unprovable point. Look more carefully at my answer which, by the way, is neither out of ignorance nor misunderstanding rather it is out of fact. To replace your bluster and misplaced irrationality with better research might help your cause. Discovering that you're wrong is never a pleasant experience, especially when you present your opinion, because in most cases it is just that, an opinion, in such an overbearing and seemingly unequivocal manner. Perhaps the use of a pinch of humbleness rather than your usual self-assertive brash approach might be a start that allows your readers to be more forgiving.
  4. It's not BS at all. It was as a direct result of a series of EU Directives that the current European photo card Driving Licence came about. As time progressed both the Council and the European Commission deemed it necessary to replace all the different models used by individual Countries (States) and consequently all Members of the EU had to comply. I'm not saying it's a bad thing as the photo card licence is reputedly more difficult to forge, but it is totally wrong to say that the EU did not have a hand in it, quite the contrary.
  5. Bit of a late starter then were you Steve? By my calculations that means you didn't pass your test until you were 26 ... 🤔
  6. Good spot ... it's actually an IS220d.
  7. I'm told that high revs on start up is typical for Japanese models. Takes a bit of getting used to but is neither unusual or abnormal (apparently!). 🙂
  8. As expected I guess, a typically subjective view and of course not short of the usual dose of patronising content. No place for you in the Corps Diplomatique I'm afraid Linas! But glad to hear that you felt the need to take a break (brake?) from Forum involvement, it happens to us all. 😉
  9. Interesting, thanks for your input guys, looks like AlloyGators are winning the battle over Rimblades. 🙂
  10. ... any particular reason John? Or might you change your mind tomorrow ... 😄
  11. The ones that need hammering ('soft' hammer obviously) to apply with tyre pressure released are the AlloyGators as they seem to be more of a 'wrap-around' to the rim edge. Rimblades seem to be different as they rely more on adhesive to press against the rim edge surface with minimal if no wrap-around. Sounds all very technical (not!) and I'm veering towards the Rimblades as I too have recently scuffed offside front 😢 (such a horrible noise!) but mine are gloss black coated so any such stupid careless unnecessary annoying ridiculous damage is magnified when you look at it! So far I've managed a permanent black marker pen to distract me but more is definitely needed. 🙄
  12. Just wondering if anyone has any views or preferably experience with the different makes out there. Rimblades seem good value, appear easy to fit (YouTube) and have different options for different alloys. AlloyGators seem more rugged, not so easy to fit (YouTube) and don't appear to look very subtle but then they may be more effective. Costs seem pretty similar. Or are there any other makes worth investigating at reasonable cost ... ?
  13. Agreed. So at slight variance to my own post on Weds my understanding is that renewable ethanol can be blended with any octane of petrol and because ethanol itself has an even higher octane rating the octane level of the resulting 'blend' could therefore be higher than before the blend. However, the fact remains that it is the percentage of ethanol within the resulting mix that determines whether or not it is good for your engine rather than the octane rating.
  14. Holie Molies Ej, when was that ... 1950s? What were you driving then?
  15. The estimated difference in economy is a likely to be a mere 1% as suggested here ... https://www.gov.uk/guidance/e10-petrol-explained The octane difference will depend upon how the ethanol is blended and apparently could vary from Country to Country. So as a rough guide you can expect E10 to be circa 94/95 octane and E5 to be nearer 98/99 octane.
  16. Hi Ej ... naturally enough consumption much depends on how you drive but come the Autumn here in the UK your choice will probably be reduced to E5 or E10 as the former will become the new 'Super'. 😉
  17. Now just slow down a bit Linas, you seem to be causing a bit of a stir. You clearly have very strong views on this topic which I'm sure are very well intentioned but it would greatly help us all to try and understand and indeed value your viewpoint if you would please detail your professional insurance and/or underwriting qualifications which will then replace what seem to be purely personal experiences and a not inconsiderable degree of conjecture.
  18. Funny how the wheels seem to come off some threads .... 😜
  19. Cheers Darren ... at last some media that actually quotes something about the mysterious 'Advance' variant. 👍
  20. Thanks for the PDF-link. I'll have a good gander ... ideal bed-time reading ☺️👍
  21. Thanks for that Linas. I still find it a bit odd that I can't find a site that explains the description and specs of the 'Advance' variant.
  22. I've seen an IS250 'Advance' listed for sale. Could it be an SE-I or SE-L variant? And of which generation? Not being an experienced aficionado of the marque I've tried googling various sites but can't seem to find reference to it anywhere. Can any of you kind Lexusists enlighten me or indeed link me to an explanation of what distinguishes an 'Advance' model? 🤔
  23. Sorry Mitch, a more honourable purchaser soon followed last year to whom it was sold.
  24. A looming and potentially controversial topic but one of particular interest to those, like me, with 'non-compliant' engines as E10 petrol becomes phased in this Summer. Both official and independent comment earnestly suggests that use of E10 fuel will damage non-compliant engines and yet there will no doubt be those who remain sceptical. However, given the reports of potential and significant damage it's not a risk that I'm preparing to take so I shall not be using E10 petrol which means that I shall be paying more for E5 fuel. My initial thinking is that although there will be many prospective buyers who will not be bothered about the need to use more expensive fuel there will be others who will shy away so overall it might be realistic to expect the demand for non-compliant vehicles to reduce which will presumably mean that the sell-on value will reduce also. And despite 'caveat emptor', I wonder if future used car advertisements start to show 'E10 compliant' alongside the now common 'ULEZ compliant'? Discuss ... PS ... If in doubt, here's the link to check your vehicle compliancy :- https://www.gov.uk/guidance/e10-petrol-explained
  25. Haha indeed, the OP's question was actually answered 23 hours and 18 posts ago! 😂
