  1. Excellent post and I entirely agree with you Bernard ... the one possible exception being that it is my belief the horse is actually dead and the flogging needs to stop.
  2. I would not consider those conditions off-putting for most used cars least of all a Lexus. Yes, 7 years is a long time but regular mileage, recent service record and green MOTs are all positives. When I bought my '06 last year it had a 4-year gap in servicing and the mileage was even less than yours. My Indy checked it all over, gave it a full service including an oil change and onward we go. PS ... but do feel free to use the lack of servicing as a stick to beat down the price! Good luck ... 😉
  3. Lexus got back to me with this comment ... "I am afraid that if your vehicle is not compatible with E10 there is no additive that will resolve the issue." Hey-ho, c'est la vie, my guess is that Lexus clearly do not want to admit even if there is a solution.
  4. At last, found some E5 ... at a cost! £1.59.9ppl thank you very much ... that's £7.20 per gallon FFS! Ludicrous 😡. Non-compatible IS250 anyone? 🙄 I think I'll contact Lexus to see what they can recommend re an additive to E10 ... if one exists that is! 🤔
  5. No E5 to be seen. Not fuelled up since before this fiasco. Now down to a quarter (65'ish miles) so on my way to Sainsbury's I routed past 6 fuel outlets, all within a 5 mile radius. Those that were open had very short queues BUT ... 2 were open for everything else but no E5 (1x Esso, 1x Shell), 2 had no fuel at all (1x BP, 1x Shell), and 2x (1x Esso, 1x Shell) only had diesel. Hey-ho, better luck next week then. 🙄
  6. Fascinating ... if only just to see how few drivers know the best way to drive through deep water! 🛶
  7. I seem to remember reading that one garage manager reported a 400% increase in fuel purchases! Please don't try and tell me that's a "small spike"!! 😳 And of course people don't queue if they have a full tank, or they shouldn't, but by then the damage is done which is why, hopefully, as I explained, normality will soon be resumed. So rather than driving off onto a Government bashing tangent into the realms of Brexit and Covid we'll just have to agree to disagree John. 😉
  8. You're right in one respect John, the public are certainly not consuming more fuel ... they're buying it and storing it! 🙄 Make not the mistake of directly associating fuel pump shortages with HGV driver shortages for they are two completely different issues. The shortage at the pumps is entirely due to outright selfishness amongst the general public born out of the alarmist media who seem to revel in publishing misleading and provocative headlines. 😡 If the unthinking general public had been a tad more thoughtful and rational there would be no need for queues at the pumps and the vast majority of fuel stations would still be open and functioning normally. There will be many vehicles now sitting on driveways full to the brim with fuel that will not be used for weeks, so thankfully the rest of us and the fuel pumps can soon get back to the normality that should never have left us in the first place.
  9. Slap an extra 20p per litre tax on fuel and limit each visit to £30, make the hoarders think twice! 🤔 Special dispensation for valid users (ie emergency services, NHS etc). 🙂
  10. Filled up with E5 (99) today at usual Shell garage (supposedly one of the 'less expensive' around here) at £151.9 per litre, E10 now £137.5. Scandalous! Presume it must be even more expensive in bonnie Scottish land?
  11. Fill your boots Ifti ... 😉 https://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/127448-is250-and-the-e10-petrol-exclusion-list https://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/128214-e5-e10-or-super-what-to-put-in-the-tank https://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/129011-e10-new-petrol-grade-from-september-2021
  12. It's called Google, hope it helps ... 😀 "Acidic compounds and ions can be dissolved in water, and these substances can have corrosive effects on metallic construction materials. With the increasing content of ethanol in fuels, the conductivity and ability of fuel to absorb water increases, and the resulting fuel is becoming more corrosive."
  13. I've always looked upon supermarket fuel as being less abundant in such things as performance additives, detergents and friction modifiers ... but to quite what extent none of us shall probably ever know. 🤷‍♂️ Also, of course, site rental or land location costs are probably less for supermarkets as they are likely as not compensated by the retail outlet to which they are connected. But it's all smoke and mirrors (no pun intended!) to us proverbial petroleum punters. 😄
  14. Haha, fancy a sandwich at £10 ... what a great way to loose weight ... and customers of course! 😂 Interesting that you, way up in the wilds at the other end of the UK, have a 20ppl difference between standard and VPower whereas down here in pack-'em-in-tightville the difference is just 14ppl. Currently £133.9 compared to £147.9. Lowest supermarket cost is £130 'ish I think. 😉 Perhaps the oxygen is a bit thinner up there 🤔, or maybe it's to do with those strange accents that start just north of Watford 😂.
  15. Hardly a good analogy John, sorry mate. But if you're out and about, get delayed and need a bite to eat you don't buy a loaf of bread. But I get what you mean ... I think. 😉 What is more apparent is that the price of a sandwich tends not to vary from £3 one week to £3.50 the next! And it's difficult to judge the long term benefit you get from eating a sandwich. I won't go on ... 😊
  16. I don't think there's an argument against the fact that the like of Shell VPower is a better fuel option than lower grade octane whether it be for better economy, performance or internal engine care. My issue now is that I shall be forced to use it rather than previously having had a choice which is more a reflection on the car than the fuel.
  17. Any luck Vlad? Or maybe you're waiting for them to call back ... ? 😂
  18. I'm no hands-on mechanic Martin but I would still be interested to know what you mean by 'the entire fuel system' ... what components exactly? ... and at what cost? Not even sure what 'ethanol resistant coating' might be unless that's a jest 😄 . Please elaborate as much as you can.
  19. I wish you well with that phone enquiry Vlad as I too shall be interested in the answer. 😕
  20. The list of excluded Lexus engines on Government website (and I quote) ... "E10 petrol is cleared for use in all Lexus European petrol models made from Jan 1998, excluding: • IS250 2.5 litre V6 with engine 4GR-FSE made between Aug 2005 and Sep 2007 • GS300 3.0 litre V6 with engine 3GR-FSE made between Jan 2005 and Sep 2007 • LS460 4.6 litre V8 with engine 1UR-FSE made between Aug 2006 and Sep 2007."
  21. There are several currently on Autotrader that seem good examples and may fit your wish list, check 'em out (unless you've seen them already that is) but to me the prices on there seem a bit high ... but then only you can judge how much you want to pay. Interesting that Vlad should make a point about values dropping due to the E10 issue (models 08/05 to 09/07) which I fear may well be the case although I've not yet seen any evidence of this. And Jon, you've specifically suggested post-Sep '07 so you obviously want a compatible car. Unlike mine that I bought last November at auction only to recently discover that it is not compatible with E10 petrol (being 03/06). However, it's very low mileage (31k) and in great condition with good history for a 15 year old car which kind of makes up for it. I got it for a snip if the Autotrader prices are accurate valuations but not so much if I lose out on it not being E10 compatible. We'll have to see I guess. Good hunting anyway Jon.
  22. It's perfectly legal in the UK for two people to insure the same vehicle using two different insurance companies. What is definitely illegal is for you to claim the full amount of any claim from both of the companies, that's fraud. Whether a second insurer would agree to you insuring a vehicle that you don't own is of course another matter. Either way, and understanding the OP, why would you? One hell of an expensive way of getting your younger son insured on his older brother's car. Tell him to wait until his brother's insurance comes up for renewal and he can share the cost with another underwriter who will allow an U21 driver.
  23. Hey Mo, plenty of links on here and elsewhere to help you understand. Up to you to check if your car's not compatible, but if it isn't, then your right! 😉
