  1. On the contrary, the larger boot and improved access to same is much more practical and a very worthy compromise as my rear seats are rarely used. My search continues.
  2. And don't forget the ... *Small boot! I'm still keeping an eye out for a good low mileage C (big boot when roof is up) but the prices are ridiculous ATM and look unlikely to drop any time soon. 🙄
  3. My lad has just taken delivery of his new Tesla (Model Y). Acceleration is like nothing I have experienced before. But on the subject of fuel ... the range on my IS is around 325 miles compared to nearer 400 on his. To brim my tank (E5) when left with fumes only is currently around £130. He recently fully charged in around 40 minutes (whilst shopping) and he says it cost him under £20. Now I'm not saying that I want one, in fact I don't, but he and his accountant have done the maths and it will apparently serve him well for 5 years and will be cost effective. Ah well, the youth of today eh? 😁
  4. Vlad has a point, but to be fair if you don't travel long distances and can lock onto a local unused frequency then the cigarette lighter transmitter works fine. I think it's when you do a lot of long journeys or live in a tricky location that the wavelength might become a problem. I bought this Victsing back in Feb '21 for a mere £12.99 and have experienced no problems whatsoever. I believe the term is 'horses for courses' ...
  5. Sorry, I thought the topic was UK fuel prices, my mistake. 🤷‍♂️
  6. Not quite sure who's blaming Covid for rising fuel prices but with great respect Eric if you don't think the Ukraine conflict has anything to do with it then I would suggest you think again. 😉
  7. What are you lot prattling on about .....?!? 🙃 Back on topic ... £2.00 per litre for Esso Supreme (E5) has arrived at the leafy East Surrey Downs! 🙄 I think that's around £7.53 per gallon in old money. 🤭 £10.00 a gallon anytime soon ? ... 🤔
  8. Not available on my 2006 SE-L. All I can find in my handbook are these wonderfully worded caveats ... Hardly helpful when stationary on an uphill 1:4 ... experience is the key (or key-less in my case 😄).
  9. Haha, gritters? You must be kidding, they don't go near it! Any sign of ice or snow the road is closed. That's the North Downs for you. Would welcome sight of the technical article you mention.
  10. That's news to me. Maybe it's not to be trusted on my local 1:4 gradient (that's 25% in new money!). Where's the button anyway? 🤔
  11. Len, in his post above yours, made a start to explain. Rather like feeling the clutch bite you should feel the car want to move forward against your foot on the brake at which point you gently release said left foot in unison with equally gentle acceleration with the right. Can be a bit unnerving at first but practice and good judgement makes perfect.
  12. The driver to the rear will appreciate your brake lights far more than you reversing into him/her! 😀
  13. Agreed, but as per my previous it may be necessary to use your left foot on the foot brake when attempting a smooth steep hill start.
  14. That's not strictly true and should not be relied upon as it depends upon the gradient.
  15. Well, I was using the word 'retired' rather loosely. I'm drawing my pension but in fact still working, albeit part-time and on my own terms and with no NI obligations. Just how I like it. Can't imagine doing diddly-squat or playing golf all day every day. Which means I'm lucky, in fact we in this Country are lucky, because in some other Countries once you start drawing your pension you are no longer allowed to work, you can be arrested and fined if you do. So I'm still giving and of course taking, but only in proportion. 😉
  16. Back in the day, when I were a lad, employees went to a place of work and the self-employed worked from home ... and the former vastly outnumbered the latter. With time, progress, technology and evolution comes our current brave new world where my son, a freelance creative, travels to a place of work and my daughter, a servant of the Crown, has spells of working from home (sorry Moggy). The tables are constantly turning as the world changes but wherever you work the mainstay of a successful arrangement must surely be the reliance on trust and good communication twixt employer/employee, client/consultant such that overall efficiency is maintained and vulnerability to negative outside influences is reduced. Contrary to what I would have thought, my son says he works better when at his place of work whereas my daughter says her efficiency definitely increases when working from home. I'm rather glad I'm retired.
  17. I know I'm not in the right Club, sorry, but my point is relevant for any car. 🙂 ALWAYS query your annual renewal. Last year I paid £307.17. This year's quoted renewal was £351.48. Via Go Compare same Company quoted me £254.95. Of course I complained. Settled on £253.75 for this year - a saving of £97.73 (27.8%) against renewing without query. 😐 Although I gather new legislation is now supposed to prevent such variation. Believe that when you see it! 😉
  18. I guess this could offend minority cat cyclists, white dog owners (by that of course I mean owners of white dogs!) or even people with high foreheads ... dunno ... is it an issue?
  19. If we're going to quote Churchill it would be nice to get it somewhere near accurate ... Lady S : "Winston you're drunk", WSC : "Madam you are ugly ... but in the morning I shall be sober." BTW ... Shell V-Power petrol £175.9 off Jct 6 M25 ... that's near as damn it £8 per gallon! 🤬
  20. Predetermination
  21. Filled up my stealthmobile locally with Esso Synergy on the 3rd ... £169.9p per litre (E5) ... same price advertised today. 😋
