  1. Removing the intake helps a lot and to be fair itwas not that difficult on mine (1MZ), just had to make sure to cover and tape the head to not have to fish out a bolt or something worse out of there. Once the intake is off it's a piece of cake to get all 3 out of the back. Worth checking how tight are the plugs as well - previous owner on mine had them put in so loose that I unscrewed #3 and #5 plugs with my fingers without any force, and coils barely touching (3 weeks of trying to figure out why everytime techstream is hooked up the misfire moves somewhere else :))
  2. Yeah I feel stupid for listening to this kind of advice. Also I had a slight confirmation bias thinking that the ATF doesn't get anywhere near the engine oil temperatures so it won't get burned. And here I am asking fellow owners for their experiences 🙂
  3. Hello people 🙂 I have a question to people that have had issues with gearboxes on the RX300s. Long story short - ATF change looooong overdue, car started making whining and then grinding noises (gradually louder within a space of a few days). Then one day desperately trying to get to work the transmission went (everything apart from P was like neutral, after engine restart things went back to normal for maybe 60 seconds after which it felt like clutch slip in a manual, then again gone back to normal after restart in a loop until I get it back home 2 miles down the road). Throughout those days the gearbox oil temp was going all the up to the high 80s celsius. Since then I have dropped the pan, cleaned the magnets (no porcupines but the ATF looked like hot chocolate), changed the filter (mine was already a non-metal filter so didnt attempt cleaning it, just swapped it for a new one), and filled her up with fresh cherry red T-IV. Now here is where I am confused - car started beautifully, no noises whatsoever, drove absolutely perfect (and smoother than before) for exactly 5 days until today when I can hear the exact same loud whine from the gearbox, mixed in with a slight grind. Also suddenly there is a metallic thud when switching between D and R, and when i pulled the ATF dipstick out after an hour drive, the fluid was brown actually with some bubbles on the stick (level within the hot range though). Transmission running at 65-75 degrees celsius. Here's the question - is it worth draining and filling her again or send her to a garage straight away (which I'm less willing to do as the bill starts going as soon as they touch the gearbox)? Sorry for the long post, Kindest of regards Kamil
  4. Hi Mark, I have actually put a complete and stock non air set on all four corners, it came from a 450h. After having 3 air shocks fail on me withing a year I decided to go spring. It was a straighforward swap as everything is fitted exactly the same way. I will have a look at the parts website once I unpack from the home move. I really appreciate this though - I've looked up and down even resorting to messaging ebay sellers about the part numbers for 300 and 450h springs 🙂
  5. Hi all 🙂 I am a proud owner of a 04 RX300, and I have come across something odd I think. I have swapped out the air suspension on my car to a standard spring setup (relatively straightforward if it wasnt for having to cut all the stabilisers in half :)). The suspension comes from a dead RX400h (engine gave up on a lazy owner AFAIK), however the feels rather bumpy, mostly noticeable when tackling speedbumps, when the car 'jumps' up it feels rather harsh, then bit softer when it drops back down. I have a friend's stock '05 RX300 serviced by the dealer to compare, and his ride feels much smoother - car feels like a cloud driving over same speed bumps at 30mph. I have tried searching online with no good result, I have had somebody tell me that sprigs on 300s and the hybrids are different since the extra 600ish lbs of a battery in the car, however as far as I've searched - the parts numbers are exactly the same for both hybrids and non-hybrids... has anyone got knowledge about this? Kind regards, Kamil
  6. Hi all, Long story short - my RX's air suspension has crossed the line. After the third strut failure I have decided to swap it out for the standard spring one. Now as far as iI could find on forums, it is a pretty straightforward swap, however I have seen a few people mention they needed "some extra parts". I was wondering - has anyone got a list of some sort or an idea of what exactly might be needed? I already have the stock struts, complete with the top mounts (AFAIK the SE-L front struts have the top mounts integrated contrary to the spring suspension). Does anyone know if there is anything else that's needed? Kind regards, nowakkam
  7. Hi there, I may sound a bit silly, but I wanted to ask a question if the RX300 and the bigger engined brothers have the same actual suspension? I am getting a mild depression over the SE-L's air suspension and would like to swap it out for the spring one (I have just had 3rd strut fail on me due to rust on the tank on the top of the strut). I know it is a relatively straightforward swap, however I am unsure if I will need any extra parts apart from the struts, and if the 450h model ones are any different than the 300? Also, sorry for advertising myself but I am willing to be a helpful person as well, so if there is anyone in need of Techstream - I am willing to help out 🙂
