I suppose the simplest way is to ring them, the company concerned, and ask them if they have 'declined insurance' this constitutes declining insurance for future years?
-
Hopefully you are right, Malc. It is difficult to believe that insurance would be declined because I made a successful claim against a negligent driver.
-
That is an interesting point. Actually, I only had the payout a couple of weeks ago so when I initially took out the policy last November, I didn't know what the payout would be so declared the claim and that I didn't know the payout value. The lady on the phone didn't use the phrase 'refused insurance' just that because the payout was in excess of £25k they were unable to give me a quote. I would welcome info from the knowledgeable and also, does this mean that I can NEVER get insurance from this particular company? In a couple of years I will not be required to declare the accident but will I still need to say I was 'refused' a quote? EDIT: One point I might add that I have just thought about. Before I called my current provider I did an online comparison and they came out the cheapest and I declared all including the settlement value. They knew the value yet still provided an online quote. It was only when I rang that the difficulty in matching this online quote occurred (I suspect as a result of a mid term quote) that generated a 'start from scratch' and subsequent issue!

September 2017 I had a motorcycle accident where a taxi cut across me and took me side on. Result was bike was right-off and I sustained leg injuries. I obviously claimed against his insurance and they admitted liability from the outset. Now I have received the payout, why I decided to treat myself to my new Lexus, and this morning went to change insurance over to my new is300h that I shall collect tomorrow. They quoted nearly double the current policy and car so I decided to do an online comparison and would you believe it, my current insurer came out cheapest. A few pound cheaper than my Volvo (current car). So I called insurers and they couldn't match! They suggested I cancel the current policy and purchase the online comparison quote and they wouldn't charge the cancellation fee because I am going to take out a new policy. Current policy cancelled I go back online and click the purchase button. 'Ooops! It looks like you already have a policy with us. Please call blah blah' So now I am back on the phone and I am told, 'it could take up to a year for my current cancelled policy to be invisible to comparison sites! What a load of bo***cks! I want to speak to someone else but of course, isolation means I have to go back into the loop and wait again. They decide to start from scratch as if it's a new policy - which of course it is. Give them all my details, identical to online comparison site and they refuse to insure me because my claim paid out more than £25k Back to comparison site quotes and next quote which was actually £1 more all same details, and they accepted. Now I am left with having to declare that I have had a motor insurance declined! Does anyone know how this may affect me in the future. To say I am livid at this moment is an understatement!

Thanks Steve. I checked my policy small print and it doesn't make it clear at all. Sounds like that's where they got you by the nuptials!

Hi Venator, thanks for your reply. Yes. I am currently insured with Lloyds on my Volvo but when the Lexus arrives I will be calling Lloyds to change the vehicle. In the past when I have done this there has been a huge hike in premium so I was thinking that it might be cheaper for me to cancel my current policy and take out a brand new one for the Lexus. Because I currently pay by installments I wondered if the cancellation rules were the same. I am hoping I pay a cancellation fee and that is it no more installments!
-
Hi all, I have never cancelled a policy mid term but after receiving my quote for the new car it occurs to me that there may be a necessity this time. I am currently paying my insurance by installments. Now, if my current insurers, which still has 6 months left on the policy, decides to quote a huge premium, what are the rules regarding cancelling my policy now. Will I still have to pay the full cost or just a cancellation fee? I am thinking it may be different since I pay monthly! I am planning to pay new policy outright this time if that helps. EDIT: I might for clarification add that a comparison site has quoted my current insurers as being the best price but I am all too aware of changing vehicles mid term and having a huge hike in premiums till the renewal date comes round!

Insurance is indeed an odd animal. Being a new Lexus owner currently owning an old Volvo S60, I did a comparison check for insurance for my new 17 plate is300h arriving when lockdown eases. Quotes ranged from £440 from my current insurer to £2450. I am definitely in the wrong profession but alas, too late to change now 🙂 and will definitely be staying with my current provider.

My little grey cells will be fighting over which song to choose … Thank you for the effort. It did make me lol … not a bad thing in these boringly lonely times!
-
That is always an option. We have agreed that for the time being we will see what Mr Johnson has to say on Sunday. If, as I suspect, it is remain in total lockdown for a further 3 weeks I may ask what options for delivery he has. To be fare to him though, making a 120 mile round trip may be just as difficult for him to justify as it would be for me to justify. Not exactly essential although he might be able to argue it is essential for the continuance of his business! Time will tell. I can't exactly use it at the moment anyway. It is only me being somewhat childish in my eagerness to have my new acquisition sat outside my home. Children waiting for Christmas comes to mind!

I am sorry. I have to object firmly to this post. Or more precisely, the title of this post. Every time I see it, Adele starts singing in my head and it takes several minutes to get rid of it. 😄

I'm sure I will when I can get it. Lockdown wont make it easy as I'd have to travel about 60 miles. Not sure I can argue essential travel there!

Smart keys and wireless phone chargers
Phooey replied to Jayw13702's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
You are correct. Wireless charging always generates a magnetic field. If you pass a small compass by any wire with a current running through it you will detect a magnetic field. Conversely, if you can generate a magnetic field around a wire (placing a wire through a circular magnet for example) you will detect a current through the wire. -
WOW … 1/3 of the cost!

Thanks Thackeray. I got a good deal for sure. Got fair few hundred knocked off with service and new MOT and full tank of fuel. I have already been asked about extras which I am looking through but unlikely to take up. On a brand new car, I probably would but second hand is not quite so valuable. There was a RTI insurance I might consider if it really is Return To Invoice value. £359 for 3 years.

-
Well, I've only gone and done it. Bought the car from Swindon. Got a good deal too with the help of an extremely helpful chap on here - You know who you are! I am now a proud Lexus owner. Just got to sort out collection in this weird Covid-19 world of ours.
-
Oh really? Nothing listed in the spec! Face lift it is then … I've always fancied a facelift. 😄
-
Good point, Sir. I'll email my interest then and perhaps I could ask for their best price with a commitment to come and view as soon as we are 'let out of jail'. And, what with the interest rates so low at the moment they might even prefer that I am a cash buyer. Money straight in the bank for them.
-
I'm thinking because business has been slow for a few weeks during lockdown any decent sale would be grabbed!
-
I think I'm leaning more towards the face-lift. So £18644, what would you think is a good offer just so they know I'm interested and seriously looking but also want a good deal?
-
Yeah I definitely prefer that one. I suppose I can get used to manually adjusting my seat again lol Fog lamps would have been useful though!
-
I have found three. One in Bristol, the white one, one in Swindon, also white and a black one in Cardiff. I think it's between the Swindon and Bristol to be honest. Overall the Swindon car has a bit more in the way of extras but lacks a couple of basics like front fog lights and electric seat adjustment. https://bristol.usedcars.lexus.co.uk/en/used-lexus/Lexus/Is-Saloon/300h-Advance-4dr-CVT-Auto-u3b76uj https://swindon.usedcars.lexus.co.uk/en/used-lexus/Lexus/Is-Saloon/300h-Executive-Edition-4dr-CVT-Auto-qxcakh2

That explains everything. I tried searching and found nothing. I feel like a dumb 17 year old again learning which end the boot is. lol

Especially now that petrol is cheaper than its been for years.
