  1. I have spent some hours this week looking at insurance prices for my 2009 is250 SE-L.

When filling in the forms online the various companies tell you what the market value of your car is?, or what they think. They also say that you may not get that much!
None asked the current mileage, 53000, nor about the options, ML, sun roof, facelift, or which drive variant it was.

the lowest valuation was Aviva, £2700, closely followed by others from £3800 to £4100.

Where can I buy a replacement for a 2009 facelift with 53000 miles and all toys for £2700?
What a crock, these companies are bent as a boomerang.

The insurance is due on 18th next month. I was told yesterday on the phone that I could not get a quote because it is more than 50 days away. These guys cannot even count!!!!!

    So angry.

    Possibly flooded.

Have a look at the following which I copied from a ten year old post.

This morning my IS250 wouldn't start. The engine turned over but it wouldn't catch. This is the first time the car didn't start on the first attempt. I was fairly sure it wasn't a failing battery because the engine turned over quite strongly and the lights were working well and didn't dim.

After trying this a few times over the space of about 15 mins, I gave up, emailed my apologies for the 9am meeting I knew I wouldn't make and called the AA. The big yellow van arrived within about 40 mins.

No sooner was Mr AA out of the van and he asked me if I had moved the car. I said "No", thinking he was asking if I had tried to roll it. He clarified, looking at my narrow-ish driveway and asked "Did you start it up to move it out of the way of someone else". I remembered then that I had moved it briefly the previous afternoon and not used it since. The engine was probably running for all of 15 seconds. He proudly proclaimed "That's it! It's flooded!"

Now, I didn't think cars flooded since the good old days of my mother, an old Fiat and a choke. (The three of them just didn't seem to work well together!)

Apparently, I'm now well-informed, that an engine can flood if it is left running for less than a few minutes. It was a morning of revelations for me.

Anyway, as Mr AA is explaining to me how to remedy the problem, I'm breathing a sigh of relief and hoping he's right, because I had visions of the car sitting on the back of a flatbed truck, on its way to Mr Lexus, with my credit card taped to the bonnet!

The trick to starting the flooded engine, I readily observed, is to depress the accelerator. This tells the car to stop pumping fuel to the cylinders. Smart, but too-smart for me. I'd never have guessed at that bit of counter-intuitive logic. But, it worked. After three cycles of cranking the engine with the accelerator depressed, presumably burning off the excess petrol in the engine, the car started with the accelerator released.

Hope this may be of help,

    Dec.

Did the same with my old Honda accord. AA man got it going in 2 minutes. Same exactly.

Ah, didn't know that. The same genuine Lexus one do you mean?

Do you have a link or item number to one?

It was more to save on costs for forum members, IF there was interest (which looks unlikely currently).

look for lexus fob cover  303032230134 or 324424466841

Makes me happy that I live where temperature is 15 degrees Celsius at night and all local born tell me it is freesing cold.

Did you actually drive a couple of miles without mirrors?

the mirror on the front windscreen was working.

Remember that i come from a generation when the outside mirrors were located on the front of the cars wings and useless.

Hi, New to this forum as only had my IS300h for just over a week, previously had a CT200h.

Hoping someone here will be able to answer regards TPM :

I'm not happy having a bottle of gunk to repair tyres, so intend to purchase a set of winter wheels and tyres for winter use and to double up as a spare wheel option - If I fit normal valves what will happen to the TPM indicator in the car - will it remain on permanently and is there a warning buzzer that will drive me crazy. Can I just press the reset button?

Secondly - I would like to fill my current tyres with Nitrogen - any problems with this regards the TPM valves?

Looking forward to your comments, and if the responses are as good as the feedback experienced in the CT forum I'll be delighted

    Thanks

    Steve

Air is 78% Nitrogen. Where would you get more?

What kind of mpg you getting then Mike? On ultra short trips I'm getting very high teens. On a run of say 30 miles at legal speeds I'm getting mid to high 30's. I can't remember what age etc your car is and how many miles etc but maybe clean the MAF sensor and even the throttle body. I believe doing that improves the car.

If I drive like a man with an empty fuel tank then I get about 20. If I drive normally and in traffic it can get to 17. Not been on motorway for weeks but last time got over 30 doing a speed over what I should have been doing.

I find that the first few miles gulps and wonder if that is an auto choke thing?

It also does not like being stuck at slow changing traffic lights.

I also admit to being a comfort freak with Ac, heated seats, running lights on and all toys playing. Must use some power?

So Mike how are you finding your rear wheel drive car? You've started a thread which at times looks like a little war or words lol.

I really find little difference between this car and my previous FWDs. Having read the horror stories about wet road mishandling,I expected worse. It however sticks to the road like **** to a blanket and I am very pleased with it. My only gripe is fuel consumption which around town is horrendous.

I must admit that I never intended to open a 5h1tstorm.

All wheel drive is the only drive form better for rally and extreme driving than rear wheel drive.

Going uphill with rwd in snow it is good to have weight in the trunk. I once needed my wife to sit on the spoiler of our Toyota MR2 1st generation to get the car in garage.

For normal driving it does not matter if car has front- rear- or all-wheel drive.

PS.: Not everybody considers normal driving same way. I have been driving a Lancia Delta EVO2 (awd) and several rwd cars. They all handle different, but with correct set up tyres most modern cars are easy to drive and Lexus is absolutely making good easy to drive cars. But with 149 posts on this forum I am pretty sure you know that already.  😊

Only first time this week had reason to use snow ECT, never had that before.
