I just had the first service yesterday and it's not showing up in the online history at lexus.co.uk (although the book was stamped) The hybrid check is showing, but the video link shows as being by demo technician (which is making me wonder). This was done at Lexus Woodfords new Hainault service centre (only open a week) so before I phone up and query should I be seeing a service as well online or does it take a few days to appear normally?

Personally I wouldn't bother, Lexus paint is supposed to have a self repairing layer this is detailed in the manual: Self-restoring coat The vehicle body has a self-restoring coat-ing that is resistant to small surface scratches caused in a car wash etc. ●The coating lasts for 5 to 8 years from when the vehicle is delivered from the plant. ●The restoration time differs depending on the depth of the scratch and outside tem-perature.The restoration time may become shorter when the coating is warmed by applying warm water. ●Deep scratches caused by keys, coins, etc. cannot be restored. So I'm not so sure any exterior coating is worth paying for (personally I bought both but it was after purchasing that I learnt about the self restoring coat so I probably wouldn't bother again). Maybe see what the folks in the "Lexus Car Care & Detailing" forum on here reckon? I have seen various posts about SupaGuard after purchasing which make the point that it's a means of bumping the salesmans commission. The same can also be said of Gap insurance (I bought mine for half the price the dealership wanted from ala (I think honestjohn.co.uk have a discount code) On the other hand I live on the A2 (near new cross) so my car gets dirty within a day or two parked on the driveway which makes keeping the car clean a bit of thankless task, so I'm not into doing all the detailing work and hence I may be the wrong person to comment.

RX450h stolen...how?
PeterI replied to lfoggy's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
I believe the Toyota Supra has passed the Thatcham relay attack tests in early 2020. I'm guessing this is a motion sensor in the Key fob so maybe Lexus uses this on newer vehicles. I put the key into sleep mode by pushing unlock twice while holding down lock (the LED flashes twice) and you can't open the door until you push one of the buttons. There is also a setting somewhere that turns off keyless entry but then you need to put the fob next to the starter button to start which sounds like a pain. I also have the Vonneti "business man premium" blocker box which definitely degrades the range of the key to around 5-10cm from the car (they no longer produce this model) but the "Alpha Shield" version I bought for my wife to use for the other fob completely blocks all the signal (it is a much bulkier box though). I use them as a backup in case I forget to put the fob to sleep. -
I do have a model 4 portable that I haven't fired up in many years. (I have too many lots of retro computers)

Yeah they did. I have a feeling that I was one of the first to go through the process (or at least that iteration). My phone has unlimited data (5G) but then each time I got in I'd need to remember to setup the wifi hotspot on the phone as it turns itself off when nothing connects. There are two bits of car functionailty that I'm finding somewhat useful that I suspect rely on wifi: a) Lexuslink battery status and car finder b) Sat nav traffic information I also have the car registered on the home wifi so the battery status bit (I check regularly in these Covid times) might not require the subscription and the traffic I could probably get using my phone on longer trips. I'm not quite sure how often the Lexus Link stuff gets an update I have feeling it's overnight. Basically when it drops to "critical" (Seems to be around every two weeks) I take the car for a quick drive on a motorway which seems to top things up. The car is on a driveway so I can't easily charge the battery. Once the "freebie" bit is over I might subscribe to the lowest level and use a phone as hot spot when travelling longer distances. I like the integration between the in car sat nav and the HUD so there is a little bit of value there. I can't wait for all this covid stuff to be over so we can go and visit folks.

Battery...again!
PeterI replied to Superduner's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
There is a battery monitor in the Lexus Link app on my 2020 RX which does at least give some clue. Last week it said "Critical" for me so I've been for a few slightly unnecessary drives (4x20-30 minutes) and it now says "Good". Too many short trips to the shops I suspect in my case. Doesn't help David sadly but it's something I'm going to check a bit more in future. -
Towing I have no idea on, the HUD is worth the money but I think the 360 camera is only available on the Takumi spec which really was a step too far for me. Size is a slight issue (having previously had an LS400, the RX is a bit wider when you count the wing mirrors in) and the turning circle doesn't feel as good as previous cars I've had over the years. The touch pad isn't as nice to use as either the BMW or Mercedes equivalents jog wheel systems (I think both also have a touch pad as well) I've had in hire cars but the Lexus is a much nicer place to sit in. The actual infotainment isn't bad and usually use my phone for music as the voice recognition is generally better and have the 2/3 1/3 split with the car doing sat nav on the 2/3 and Android car play doing music on the 1/3 which works fine for my use. Performance wise I don't feel it's particularly slow not quite as peppy as the Mercedes E class I hired a couple of years ago where the 9 (I think) speed box made up for the diesel but you're not buying a sports car and I don't really notice any difference with CVT from a regular auto box (but I don't drive up a lot of hills) I do really like the looks as well and I'm not sure the Germans are as reliable as they used to be and the RX is a more comfortable ride and a lot quieter than the X3 diesel I did have. I sold the X3 as it was a year too old to qualify for the low emission zone when it expands and I wanted to get it sold before everyone realises the ULEZ covers out to the north / south circular. It did however move me over to an SUV rather than saloon, that feeling of being up higher is nice. Alternatives I looked at were either more expensive or diesel which I wanted to avoid, I don't like the Volvo styling, anything from JLR just feels like a gamble and the Germans just struck me as over rated.

Odd there was no sticker. But my dealership was a bit useless on this front too. I suspect Covid screwed up some timelines at some point so they never got training properly. Next time I get a chance I might check mine to see if the sticker is actually there in the boot, might just be someone put it in the wrong place. Taking a photo is definitely the way forward particularly for stuff that is difficult to access. Also it took forever (a couple of months) for Lexus to get the website wired up to the EE back end that actually provides service so I could actually enable service. Again the dealer was a bit useless here but as I say I suspect a lack of training rather than idiocy.

First thoughts

To get the hotspot up and running you need to register it via the my-lexus website. From memory they wanted a snapshot of my drivers licence as part of the registration process, probably some know your customer stuff. Mine took nearly three months to get setup correctly via the website, it might be a bit slicker for you as it felt like Lexus fixed something in their website backend with the phone provider. The wifi password is on the side of glove box once it's been opened. I probably won't use it long term as you say a phone will do instead for most purposes. -
I checked this when I got my 2020 RX (I thought it was YUGE too), so for the three cars I've driven into my driveway the sizes are: 4996 x 1829 - LS400 4652 x 1884 - BMW X3 - 2096 inc mirrors 4890 x 1895 - RX450h - 2180 inc mirrors In terms of getting in between the gate posts the LS400 was the easiest and the X3 didn't feel too bad but the RX which is only 11mm wider feels a lot tighter. I suspect it's the mirrors the extra 84mm feels like a lot and it's very obvious to the eye as you drive past the post. Also I think the RX turning circle is bit bigger but I haven't pulled the numbers.

On my LS400 (back when I had it) failures were: Power assisted steering cooler pipe in front of the radiator leaking. Rain leaks into the boot area. Front suspension strut coil snapped. Sticky needle on the speedo. Engine and transmission seemed bulletproof and I'm sure could have done many more miles (given a cam belt change) when I scrapped it.

I've not found it to be an issue but I've not been doing a lot of driving during sunset / sunrise. Personally I love it as a feature. However unless I missed something I didn't seem to get the HUD to work with google maps so I'm using the onboard sat nav for now. I am going to a trial of stopping using Android integration (which takes over the in car voice stuff and some of the mapping) and trying the Alexa LexusLink integration with my phone out of the center console so I can get Amazon music working correctly. For some reason the Google voice assistant and Amazon don't play together nicely search seems very hit and miss (it seems to depend on the software versions)

Interestingly after chasing through the dealer last month and sending a message to Lexus via the website I was wondering if this would ever be fixed. Like you it activated on Friday although I had connected the RX to the internet via my phone as I was about to make a long journey and the email timing matches when I turned on the phone wifi sharing. On the SIM side I guess in theory yes, but I've no idea if the box in the boot is locked to Orange or even contains a SIM card.

Rx450h gen4 tow bar
PeterI replied to ron1953's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
As Richard says the installation manuals are on https://www.lexus-tech.eu in the free owners accessory installation section (although there are two part numbers for the manuals) so you could check what the official docs say, my quick glance suggests there is a decent amount of surgery done. -
Ah in many ways that's a shame as it would have been a really useful option all things considered. Thank you for checking again. it's still an interesting question given that a third party is collecting the fees, not normally a question I'd care very much about but risks of financial troubles have gone up for nearly all of us.

This seems a little unclear to me my quotation says "Payments will be collected by Planmyservice LLP as an agent for XXX Group." with no actual mention of being able to use a different dealership, but the full paper work might be enlightening or at least asking the question of the dealer. There may of course be an official Lexus product that does offer a service plan but all I can see on the website is that a slightly vague talk to your dealer.

I've been surprised to see just how small the profit margins are for a car dealership (1-2%) so it's possible some won't survive post Covid-19, but you can say the same thing about lots of companies right now. This leaves me slightly uneasy with service plans, on the other hand given the worst case loss is £300-350 i.e. if the dealer goes bust just before your annual service I would imagine a lot of RX owners would be upset but wouldn't exactly break the bank Finally Marc1 pictures please.

Does anyone know if it's possible to change the fine speed adjust on the cruise control via Techstream? It's set to either 5 Kmh or 5 mph depending on the the display, non-EU cruise controls seem to have the ability to do 1 instead for the fine option. The manual suggests you get 1mph when in constant speed mode but I've not had a chance to test this yet. This is really annoying me, particularly as the set / resume behaviour is different to my old LS400 which if you'd accelerated above the old set speed would set your current speed as the new one if you pushed the lever down to "set" I keep slowing the set speed down by 5 or 10 mph in the RX instead of setting the speed to current traffic flow.

Yeah the red does look nice. The cream interior looks fairly scuff free, but I'm not sure how long it would be before I marked it. Still can't decide if I should have waited for a custom order with the Mesa Red when I was buying. This one looks a bit lighter than the ES I saw in the red at the showroom but that was back in Feb.

Okay as suspected the wi-fi password is on the side of the glove box, the installation manual for the wi-fi box is "AIM 004 691 - 2" which I found on the Lexus tech website. The wifi box lives in the boot on the drivers side: Once I'd logged into the wi-fi hotspot I got a welcome page which says Lexus Link needs to be setup before the wi-fi is enabled, Lexus seemed to be having a bit of an issue with Lexus Link (dealer thinks this is now sorted) at the moment, so I may need to chase with the dealer if it doesn't sort itself out over the next few days. What's confusing is the US enform system is totally different so most of the Youtube how to get started videos don't match up at all.
