Only listen to Radio 1 and haven't heard much news going on there, but I share your view on news - ignorance is bliss as they say

I had a problem several years ago in a 2006 IS250 with ML.
My issue was that there was intermittant or no sound when trying to play CDs. The sound from the radio was perfect.
I replaced the headunit with a secondhand one but the problem remained. Apparently the signal from the head unit to the amp for the radio and CD outputs are seperate. The CD output is carried on a coaxial cable. In the end I replaced the amp with another used unit and this sorted my problem. Reading the US sites it seems that the amps (made in the US) are known to give problems while the headunits (made by Pioneer but branded ML) are rarely at fault.- thus I now have surplus ML headunit!!
Dec.
My first call was to check the amp but couldn't find anything wrong with it from a visual check...and it bugs me that the issue is just with playing radio

Hi,
I have an odd issue with my stereo when playing radio stations. It seems that at times the sound goes through only a few speakers and you can hear it when sometimes appears to be switching on more speakers. It's not triggered by going over bumps or on rough roads so not sure it's due to a loose connection but still checked the leads going in the amp and they all seem fine.
This never happens when playing music via Bluetooth (added a Bluetooth module on the second cd magazine port on the back of the stereo) or via CD.
for context he car is 55 plate and it has the ML stereo
Has this happened to anyone else and found a fix for it?

Yes I done the fronts last year.
they were rusted but managed to get them out.
the rear I will order the pin bolt kit.
can you reuse the calliper after the pin bolt ha snapped ? This is my worry.
lexus said new calliper.
Lexus brakes and discs are so way to do yourself why pay them.
but I need this rear calliper bolt off.
might buy some better or penetration oil as I only had wd40 and that didn’t do muchWhen I did mine the bolt that snapped on the rear breaks was the one at the bottom. It comes through on the other side on the brake carrier (I think that's the part...) so I removed the brake disc and extracted it from behind. The caliper itself was fine. In hindsight I'd much prefer taking it to a shop now rather than doing it again as the pins were all siezed and could have broken at any point. But then again I'm not a very competent DIYer when it comes to cars.
-
Buy yourself a kit of front and rear sliding pins in case any will break. When I did mine the rear bottom one snapped and had to remove the brake disc to extract it. Was lucky enough to have a friend with a spare pin/bolt, but I'd say be prepared for the worst

Can confirm the vlands will pass the mot. My is250 came with them fitted and the car just passed it's second mot in my ownership. Have the vland tail lights too and they're great.

Hi, the short answer is no. The navi head unit has different wiring so it will need mending with the wire looms to get it working. You may be better off looking for an aftermarket unit as those tend to be made for the non-navi units. The OEM navi unit is a bit useless on it's own anyways as it's quite old technology.

Hi all,
Been trying to find something like this but havent so far so im creating this one.
So i have the model without sunroof and no sunglassbox and wanted to know if somebody have opened it before to change the lights?
The picture is from my car and Wonder how im godnatt open it the best way and to ny destroy anything. If annons knows much apprecieated!
The frosted plastic cover on top of the lights comes off if you pry it open from the bottom (near the individual LED ligts). You can then change the lights easily. I did this on my 2006 and worked great.

@ahmed24 thought I wouldn't be keen on the blue carbon fibre but it actually looks great in combination with the blue elements! All looks really great! The one thing that bothers me is that you've left the small handle on the ashtray cover chrome 😄
-
I'm thinking of doing it with plasti dip / hyper dip as a friend wrapped his chrome window trim and it was a pain. Plasti dip are now doing a black gloss spray and seen that if you go with a wet coat it dries up to a smooth texture. But I think I'll wait for warmer weather to do it.
If you want to go the wrap route I've seen there are narrow strips of vynil for sale on eBay in different lengths.
One thing to note is that you'll probably have to cut away the black bit that covers some of the chorme window trim

That's awesome! When is the "how to" coming ? 😁

Hi everyone,
Looking to do some small repairs on the front seats & fix some discoloration in the arm rest in my mk2 IS250.
Can anyone recommend some products to fill in the cracks and fix the discoloration? Pics below of the areas that need fixing
Arm rest discoloration in the corner towards the driver
A few cracks in the passenger & driver seats
This is on the bottom of the passenger seat
And this is on the lower back side on the driver seat
And lastly some more discoloration/wear on the driver seat bolster
Any recommendations greatly appreciated!

That's a serious commitment to take all those photos!

I have the infotainment in mine. But naturally the navigation is quite old. So I have thought of one of these aftermarket units. I bought one for an older car of mine which didn't have any and it worked great. Transformed the car. But the Lexus has it and many things like the AC are dependent on it. So will the aftermarket unit take over that too ?
Not 100% sure on this but I know some aftermarket units don't work with the navi harness. I think this was the case for some android units like the tesla screen. Some install a Grom V-Line unit but it's a bit pricy at around £500

I'm looking to carryout a pre-emptive replacement of the water pump on my IS, I've identified the pump , my choice being the ASIN WPT-137 version, but not sure about the belt, any one know which one is required?
Had to do this last year to mine to - got the water pump from Autodoc - £80 delivered. And used a ContiTech belt https://www.carparts4less.co.uk/search/202779115
Water pump also available at Carpart4less https://www.carparts4less.co.uk/search/201820715 but a bit priceyer
Don't forget to buy the coolant. full system capacity is 9.1L I believe but most people have said they got out around 6L. Lexuspartsdirect is a good shout for OEM coolant -you need the pink one not the red

Thanks a bunch for all the good wishes everybody. And thanks also for the tips and answers to the questions. I will check back in the car and report back here. 🙂
We have to see some pics of the car too 🙂

@Lex_utor Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the family :)
Re point 1 - they do have an LSD, but unsure which one i.e. open/locked it is - I know people swap them to toyota gt86 ones or similar - which may be locked diffs? but I'm not very sure on this.
Re point 6 on the sunglasses - it's an US only option as the cars in UK (possibly Europe too) have some internal security stuff in there. I replaced the handle above the head (can't seem to remember what it's actually called now) with a cheap sunglasses holder and seems to be working great. It's a bit fiddly to install and it's not a perfect fit but it works great

Apparently the oil was changed only 2 times during his ownership. Reason to worry or run? 🤔
But this seems to be motorway miles. That many in such a short time and the guy being a student, I'm thinking lots of visits to parents or hometown. 🙂
He also said the gearbox oil was changed. Surprised me.
Many people change oil at 10k/1 year interval. IMO changing it a 5k is more being overcautious than an actual requirement - depending on driving though.

Thanks Paul, I'll have a look at some point to check the seal on the vent
-
Thanks for the reply Vlad! I'll probably strip the boot out a bit to check if the vent is damaged in any way or if I can deflect the water from the amp area then. The grommets I have in the wheel well were full rubber ones, no holes in them.

Not sure a Lexus forum is the right place to sell a Merc, but there is a "for sale" page that would be more fitting 🙂

check the rules too
Good luck with the sale!
