  1. To the best of my knowledge tyre thread depth needs to be measured in 3 places - on the outside edge, middle and inside edge. I got myself a digital tyre depth measuring device for around £5 I think and take a reading every now and then. I know the inside of the tyres wear much quicker on the 2is so it may be the case with the 3is too.
  2. Am I missing something by using a scraper or de-icing spray? I've been turning the car on with heating etc and then I scrape the windshield - done in 2 minutes and the car gets a bit warmer inside. Also keeping the inside of the windows clean helps with condensation/fogging.
  3. let us know how it goes - aiming to have mine done in February
  4. Thanks for the heads-up. Will make sure to ask how much they can take out & replace. They all mentioned replacing filters and the gasket so thought it would take all the oil out. I thought the flush meant they add detergents/chemicals for a deep clean.
  5. Called up 3 local-ish places and they all quoted under £300 for a sump down, filter and gasket replacement and refill. Will get it booked in for the new year
  6. Considering doing this as my car just got over 100k miles now. Any recommendations for shops around Coventry/west midlands?
  7. @MattDH think I saw your IS listed for sale on Facebook? any reasons you're looking to part ways with it?
  8. I'm looking to get all 4 powered coated and the guy I plan on using doesn't do same day. Might go with a different company if I can't get my hands on some wheels
  9. Anyone have any cheap wheels for sale or that I could borrow for a week? Want to get mine refurbed and the shop don't have loaner wheels in Lexus spec. Not bothered about condition as long as they have legal tyres. Based in Nuneaton/Coventry but travel for work in Solihull too.
  10. The ebay OEM alternatives don't last too long unfortunately, so it sounded like a good alternative at the time. Saw on ebay a "sport" exhaus but made of aluminum, so there shouldn't be any drone. Would be interesting to hear if anyone decides on getting it https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165529804627?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=08wd2d_LTpW&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=JHnUVjk9QPu&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=SMS
  11. Wish I got the recommendation in the spring 😂
  12. Well, tried to give it as long as I could to see if the droning would be any better before I went back to the shop and posted an update. Not happy with the result overall, but at least the backboxes won't rust away now 🙂
  13. How is the insurance like compared to the is250?
  14. Update on this - ended up fitting DB killers this evening as the droning/loud humming noise under load at 1.5-2.5k revs was killing me. Sound is back to stock now, but happy to compromise so far. The DB killers were £15 for the pair and removed the end cap so it's not too restrictive. The DB Killers were my last resort, as went back to the shop but they weren't willing to make any changes unless I paid for them - the idea of a J-pipe or and X-pipe was discarded as they said it wouldn't have helped unless I went with a system that included the mid pipe as well. Not happy with the result of my second visit as the sound was supposed to be "non-intrusive" and "sound sportier under acceleration" but in reality it went absolutely quiet after 3k revs. Anyhow, the lesson learnt is to go for a proper exhaust rather than just backbox replacement...
  15. As with any visual mod it's up to the owner's preference and taste. Window tints, custom number plates, polishing, de-chroming, de-badging etc are just visual enhancements/ mods to make the car look better in the eyes of the owner. It doesn't need to have a practical benefit.
  16. This is the link to the virtual machine I was saying https://youtu.be/Sv6dB6X46A4
  17. for our cars Carista is only good to read faults - as Linas said. there was an aussie guy on youtube showing how to run a virtual machine on your computer that was loaded with techstream - I'll have a look to see if I find the link
  18. cost saving measure I assume - as long as it does the same job should be fine
  19. Anyone saw this difference in oem vs aftermarket cabin filters? The oem one is much thicker but they are both the same size otherwise. Checked out the part number and looks like the right fit. Just curious if anyone encountered this before?
  20. any worries for the passenger side airbag with the area now being covered in vinyl?
  21. Not Friday, but Sunday and considerably less damage...
  22. It was on the maintenance list and cheap enough to be done so went with it. I did a big service after I got the car and tried to check as many things possible from the servicing list for peace of mind.
  23. I keep a similar log with most thigs I did to the car since I got it in July 2020. I do this largely as the car didn't come with a service book so that's kind of my service history during my ownership Total expense £1,747.00 July 2020 Service - oil, filter, sparkplugs, brake fluid, coolant, diff oil £430.00 September 2020 rear tyres & 4wheel alignment £250.00 October 2020 Mot £37.00 October 2020 water pump, belt & pulleys £230.00 November 2020 Battery £90.00 21 Aug 2021 oil & air/cabin/oil filters Change @92730 £100.00 October 2021 MOT £45.00 5th march 2022 stainless steel back boxes £380.00 29th March Ceramic window tints £185.00
  24. Usually people do a chrome delete by trimming it all off and then wrapping it in black vinyl. I started cutting mine off as it's in a similar state and will probably wrap it as well. Or you could use plasti-dip but not sure how good that will look as it usually has a grainy finish Replacing the trims is expensive from what I know and you'll need to take the door card to unclip it.
  25. Yup, was aware. Meant that the previous owner set it at actually 70mph as per google maps, not 70 on the dial.
