Carbon fibre door kick plates
Paul Brooksbank replied to Gcambo's topic in Lexus LC500 / LC500h Club
I haven't seen any carbon fibre kick plates for sale anywhere. You could ring Easy Composites in Stoke on Trent and ask if they can make some, but they would need to take a mould of the sill to get the correct profile, so it could be expensive, alternatively, you can buy their mould and carbon fibre skimming kit and make them yourself. They have really good instruction videos on their website. -
A bloke on Pistonheads hates his IS300h

That's interesting. I'm wondering if the ECU is set up like that fitted to the Honda IVtec engines in that it "learns" your driving style and adjusts the throttle response to match? I find my IS perfectly acceptable on response when I've decided to have a fast trip and totally relaxed when I'm chilling. Try driving like a vicar then demanding some beans and see what happens, then, set off like a scalded cat from switch on and note the difference. -
I managed to do it after about four attempts, I misunderstood the positions on the wiper switch. Try this, and there's also a video on YouTube if you need to have a look. Flasher Sequence. Ignition off, doors closed 2.) Hold the wiper switch in the full up position. (this is the wiper off position) 3.) While holding the wiper switch in the full up position, turn the IG on. (two presses of the start/stop switch) 4.) Hold wiper switch in the full up position for 5 seconds 5.) Move the wiper switch down one "click" or "notch", hold for 5 seconds 6.) Move the wiper switch back to the full up position, hold for 5 seconds 7.) Move the wiper switch down one "click" or "notch". hold for 5 seconds (same position as step 5) 8.) Move the wiper switch back to the rest position (neutral) If this was done correctly, the right turn signal will flash once. To adjust how many flashes you want, you change the intermittent wiper speed switch. P1 starts with the speed switch all the way at the bottom, P4 will be the top speed. This is found on the wiper stalk.

Lexus or Independent?
Paul Brooksbank replied to Gherky's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Quite right Roger. I was simply pointing out a developing culture of hybrid technology where the testing equipment will become more common and maybe cheaper. -

John, to be honest, anybody who's honest and can service the big Toyotas should be able to do the engine and running gear essentials on a Lexus, after all, I found the brake caliper sliders to be exactly the same as my Honda. The hybrid health check would still need to go to a main dealer, but with more manufacturers producing hybrid vehicles, the equipment will become more common and I'll bet most of it is Toyota based anyway. That begs a question, if the health check flagged a problem necessitating a warranty repair, they wouldn't guarantee the batteries for 15 years anyway. They know they're unlikely to fail. -

I've just paid £280.00 for a 60,000 mile service even though the car has only covered 26,000. This was the only option for the age of the car which is now 7 years. Frankly, I was disappointed. Their video clip of the "Health Check" as they call it showed tyre tread depth, brake pad thickness without the wheel coming off, exhaust check and shock absorber visual check. So, no check on the notorious sticking brake caliper sliders, good job I've already done that, no new air filter or wiper blades even though one doesn't touch the screen over its entire length. In future I'm going independent. Frankly I expected more than oil and filter, washer fluid (which was already quite full) and a quick look underneath. They didn't even lubricate any of the hinges! -
Quite a few years ago I took redundancy from British Rail. I applied for a job at an independent tyre and exhaust company that was set up by an ex Kwik Fit area manager. He told at the interview that he didn't want his staff "inventing faults and frightening lone mothers into buying more than they needed" he also told me that Kwik Fit had a minimum £90.00 per customer spend strategy, that means they try to get that amount out of every visitor. By the way, this was in 1997. You can treble those numbers now!

Daytime running light IS300h not working

Check the relays in the fuse box first. -
If you've got any scuffs on your red leather interior, try this stuff for a tenner, buy the cherry red 34, it matches the Lexus rose red perfectly. Dries quickly too. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEATHER-DYE-COLOUR-RESTORER-FOR-FADED-WORN-LEATHER-SOFA-CHAIR-COLOUR-REPAIR/251391035795?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=550316974352&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Parking IS300h on an incline
Paul Brooksbank replied to Maxz's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
The answer is simple, if not a bit cheeky. One is a VW, the other is a Lexus, so your worries are over mate. -

If you want to know who loves you the most, lock your dog and your wife in the boot of your car for an hour... -
There's nothing wrong with the CVT, don't believe the motoring journalists who think acceleration has to be accompanied by a rising, wailing engine note. My neighbour has a new BMW M140, it sounds like a beast, he loves mutt car, my best mate has owned Porsche Boxters, Nissan 350Z, Audi something similar to Audis and BMW 635 coupe, he drove my IS and was seriously impressed, so much so, I thought he was going to cry.
