  1. Here this is a long thread which may help. Sorry to hear these scumbags got your car for a second time 😞

i have a Yaris hybrid which the cat cannot be gotten to as it's at the manifold. I was for a period considering getting an auris or Lexus ct200 hybrid, but they get cats stolen as it's mid section. So I will have to stay put with a small car for now.

I'll try em & a few others, problem for me is I am on the borders of inner & central London so it's always more, although now & this past few weeks London is like a ghost tow, soon enough we will have tumbleweed blowing down the streets  where ars used to go

I know. In southeast London pretty much a ghost town in the first 5 weeks, this week there are a lot more vehicles on the road, especially today. The weather is nicer and also in anticipation of easing lockdown + maybe more businesses are getting people back to work.

I'm moving further up north England soon, had enough of traffic, violent crimes and expensive London.

  3. U sound like you know what u want to do already, as well u can do some DIY yourself. U know u don't want to spend 570 servicing a 9 years old car, I wouldn't on the ct200.

Probably can get an indy to do it for half the price and still be good. If I was potentially buying a old car like yours, I don't mind so much that the last service was done at an indy, I would understand. The key is the car still got looked after.

  4. The extension is set out by law, those insurance company which claim not to cover this don't have a leg to stand on against the government. Ppl should not be worry at all. Mine is due end of may, will do it in November.

PS: perhaps that garage owner is making it up to get business?

I totally agree with you - I was saying that from day one!

They said it is unknown virus, doubt that! Below is a Biology Book (it is on Russian but 2nd from right is a coronovirus formula) and the book is of 2010!

We just have to follow the rules, little isolation (3 or so months) won't heart, right? Hmm.

I come to my assumption base on children are not affected. It's like it has been designed not to affect children. Given that most if not all diseases adversely affect those with weak immune systems - children/elderly & ill health people.

I would go as far as saying I think USA planted this virus in China and Iran. It's easy to blame the Chinese for eating all sorts. Iran we know has not been conforming to uranium standards and as well attacked American bases. Every other countries are just part of collateral.

I'm sure there are much more underlying reasons if it were man made. Of course this will never be proven either way.

The scientists also don't know if this is one of those bugs that succumbs to higher levels of ambient UV.

Hopefully as we head into summer the UV will kill off the virus on outdoor surfaces and slow the infection rate.

With medical and technological advances I think it can be tested in the lab, probably done it already and they know the result.

I agree with you, I sometimes wonder if people actually have any news broadcasts on!

Don't believe everything on the news.

  7. Our 10 days Croatia and Montenegro trip for early may are also off. So we will be going more UK trips such as Wales, Dorset & lake District. We will also go by car.

My only concern is if this panic buying food isn't sorted out by then. We didn't plan to eat out anyway but to buy and cook at accommodation, packed lunch for day out on short hikes and sightsee.

  8. I went to a Lidl at 8:20am this morning, store open at 8am. Large queue outside , had to queue for 30mins before getting in. Manage to get most of what I wanted but missing pasta, porridge - though they had a lot of the cheap 75p ones which I didn't get because they take 30mins to cook and are still tough to eat!

Thank goodness I didn't need loo rolls as they are all gone along with long life milk, soya milk, sugar. Manage to grab a last bag of frozen chips, pretty must most frozen food apart from icecreams are all gone. Never in my life had I ever queued outside a supermarket for 30mins trying to get in! Reckon gona be like this for a while.

I'm down in a remote part of Cornwall for the week.  I think I saw 4 people today on a 10 mile walk!

I'll be in boscastle at end of June for 5 days. Been planning this group trip since late last year, unless there is a lockdown, no way I will be missing lovely Cornwall for 5 days!

Ps: I had a cough which started last Nov into early dec, lasted 3 weeks. Though strength wise I was ok and can eat, wasn't short of breathe. Someone I know also had it around for 3 weeks in December.

Slightly off topic, whenever I took my second IS200 to the main dealer for a service, they'd change the discs. When I stopped using the main dealer and had my local chap look after it, i'd get four or five services out of a set. I've always found this curious....

They are making money from u which probably not did need spending as the discs will be good for loads of mileage.

  11. They are not going to care, they will steal the cat regardless. The police need to set up sting operations and lock these thiefs away, and enforcement need to be done on metal dealers/export borders.

I have to stay put with what I have or change to a diesel auto until such time these doesn't happen anymore.

I'm fortunate to have a car which isn't being targeted, but feel bad for the rest of you guys.

  12. Quoting from a Prius owner in the Toyota forum:

I have had two Catalytic converters stolen on my Toyota Prius 2008 in the last three months. First in Luton in November 2019 then in Bletchley January 2020. The second time I had a Catloc fitted for protection but it made no difference to the thieves. I was parked for just one hour the second time. My insurance will be much more expensive about double from £450 to £950 approx, I have had to pay excess twice of £250, plus the stress of all this. The whole thing has really had a negative affect on my health. I would not recommend buying any hybrid car mainly Toyotas at the moment or having a Catloc fitted, they are useless. Toyota in Luton (Steven Eagell) who fitted the Exhaust and Catloc could not care less about my situation. I spoke to Catloc who were the same and have not helped or could not care. There is a UK epidemic at the moment of catalytic converter thefts due to the price of palladium and rhodium metals in the cats. I am getting rid of my Prius as soon as possible this weekend I hope. I am not going to buy a Toyota again after my experience, and advise friends and colleges against them, mainly hybrids, due to the thefts.

    Kind regards

    James Webster
